For all the musicians out there... I have been using the free tuner app "G-Strings" for a while on the Droid and it is VERY good. Probably the best acoustic tuner I've used.

It is, and you can. *Unfortunately* there is a bug with the latter, uploading pictures to Facebook, where the picture is rotated 90 degrees and you cannot do anything about it... this really irks me, so I hope it gets fixed up.
I've never had a problem with pictures rotating when uploading to Facebook.

I just tried it again. Still the case. I'm using a Droid, for what it matters.

It only occurs when I take a picture in Portrait mode (the device's long edge pointing vertically). The image shows up correctly rotated, but when I go to share through Facebook the picture is incorrectly rotated.

It's there for me in Settings.

Hold home screen, shortcuts, settings, running services.
Oh damn, I thought that just put a shortcut to the settings itself on the homescreen. Awesome, I'll give it a shot.

Thanks.

Is the information on how you take the picture (portrait vs landscape) store in the actual image file? It might be that your Droid is not flagging the image file as a portrait image and this is why the Facebook App loads it up as a landscape one?

Like I said, when viewing the picture it is correctly rotated per the orientation at which I shot it at. In addition, all other forms of "share" that I've tried (Email/Gmail/Twitter) haven't messed up the orientation.

The orientation information is likely stored as metadata in the image file itself (see http://www.impulseadventure.com/photo/exif-orientation.html), so I believe this is just a case of the code for the Facebook upload not checking for that value.

Cross posting this from the Nexus thread.

Let’s hope that this product will deliver on its promises as it could become a great tools for many Android users.

Interesting. But Google needs a portal of their own for Android Apps. Hopefully the Google Phone Store is the beginning of such a thing.

Looks like Weather Widget Donate got an update today and you can now download the Forecast addon (free) and it will make the weather look all pretty. Nice for those of us who don't have an HTC phone.

I looked at that video and it seems to be a Remote substitute for Android. That is cool because I was hoping there was something like that, but it doesn't accomplish what I wanted.

What I want is something that will stream my PC music to my phone. As in, I will be at school and if I want to listen to a song, I can just stream it to my phone. That way, I don't have to carry my music library with me.

I hope I'm making myself clear. Thanks!

On another note, is there a way to have my phone contact list sort by last name instead of first name?

I am looking for an app that can do this as well... The closest thing I have found is that orb is working on a version of the orblive player for android, but I am not sure when it will be available.

Yea Bookmark 2, its free and you can use a favicon, a screencap of the website or a custom icon. I just started using it so far so good. this code should work.

Anyone know of a mod that will show a set of contacts on a screen (like the HTC ones Ive seen in pics). I guess like a widget. I only found one but didnt like how they looked on the home screens.

What blows my mind is that there's a dlna app for streaming photos, music and video from your phone to your ps3/360/PC but NOT the other way around yet.

It's surely only a matter of time. There might be a way to do it on tversity with HTC phones, using the browser interface and streaming everything to the HTC flash player.. but that wouldn't be very useful for music I'm guessing.

I got spotify premium the other day and the android app for it is awesome. I particularly like that you can sync over wifi and have your playlists offline (no outrageous 3g usage needed)

Not sure if it's been said already, but Locale is showing up as $9.99 in the marketplace now :( In case you want to update the OP...

There is a free version, I think it's marked beta.

not sure if this is the right thread, but is there a way to link the ringtone volume to the media volume when/while headphones are plugged in?

As previously stated, the Beta version is still up and free. Unfortunately, from my personal experience, the Beta runs like garbage. Further, from what I've been reading, the paid one runs like garbage as well.

I'm a brand new Droid owner (just got it yesterday), and I'm desperately looking for a way to get my web shortcuts to have their favicon. It seems like a simple concept, but apparently not! Well, I installed Bookmark 2 but I can't seem to find the option to just set the favicon. It keeps wanting me to mess with the icon grabber. What's worse is that the icon grabber is far too big to capture the favicon, it seems, and the app unhelpfully states to "use the trackball to resize the picker." The Droid doesn't have a trackball.

I don't understand why it has to be this complicated. :\

Yeah, I don't understand how the icon thing works. The first one I did was for gaf and it's perfect. Every other time I tried it showed that stupid bookmark thing

I noticed that unless the Favicon is loaded in the browser it will not take on your homescreen as an icon. You can see the Favicon loaded in the "Windows" screen of the browser. I had Digg, NeoGaf, and Reader all with their Favicons on my screen, but then again I'm using 2.1 :-/

This is pretty neat. Not sure if it's been talked about here before:
WaveSecure is an All-In-One Lost Phone Solution for Android

Android/Windows Mobile/Symbian: If your phone goes missing or gets lifted, WaveSecure, currently free for Android phones, can lock it from further use, restore your contacts and call/SMS history, and even roughly locate and track its wayward use.

For an app that's being given away free to Android Market downloaders (until Jan. 31), WaveSecure (technically WaveSecure Lite in the Market) does a remarkable job of covering everything you'd be nervous about if your phone went missing. Install the app on your phone, back up your data and SMS/call logs, and set up an automatic backup routine, if you'd like. WaveSecure also asks for at least one friend's contact number that it will SMS in the event that your SIM card is swapped out for another. From then on out, WaveSecure sits in the background, waiting for you to spring into action from the WaveSecure site.

I bought Radiant, it's pretty great. The colors just pop out on my Nexus One screen!

Any other games that are touch based only? Hexage seems like the only developers that are making games that look great and play great.

This is pretty cool.

Fandango released a beta version of their Android application last month and has steadily been improving it with recent updates. It now appears the app is ready for primetime because Fandango will be waiving all service fees for ticket purchases through March 7, 2010. The company normally has a convenience charge of $1 per ticket, but users can purchase tickets for free for the next few months.

From Fandango: Get movie and theater listings with the flick of your finger. Watch trailers. View fan ratings. All while your device’s GPS feature finds the theaters closest to you and the movies playing at them. And when you’re ready to buy, it’s as simple as, well, 1-2 with our super-quick purchasing that secures your tickets fast and drama-free. Enjoy the show!

Purchase tickets in a flash

* Purchase tickets seamlessly without leaving the app
* Buy tickets for more movie screens – 16,000 and counting! — than on any other app
* Sign into your Fandango account to purchase tickets with your credit card stored online
* Or securely store credit card information to your device – it’s your choice!
* View your purchase history to access ticket details

Also, this keyboard looks interesting. Can't wait to try it: Qwerted

If you don`t trust it then turn it off when you type in a password or credit card.

I'm surprised more people aren't bringing up these security issues that seem to plague the market. It seems that both the apple store and the market suffer from polar extreme opposites in terms of security philosophy in approving apps. Can't we meet android in the middle?

Hey, has anyone played around with jaim.at?
http://www.jaim.at/

Supposedly once it's configured you can use Gtalk on android to talk on AIM/MSN.

Hey, at least it warns you specifically what the app could do and the permissions it needs, which is more than desktop programs can.

Did you know you can install some APK files if you download them using your built in browser?

You need to go to Settings > Applications first and check the 'unknown sources' box:

When you click a link to an APK file you'll get a save prompt, just save it, and watch the progress bar until its complete, then click the file. That will launch the package installer.

And here's a cool one to try for those of you who have a phone with a Qualcomm chipset... its Qualcomm's NeoCore benchmarking tool. It plays a little 3d scene and gives out the FPS your phone was able to achieve...

In fact, it may even work on phones that don't use Qualcomm, as its basically an OpenGL ES based test. It looks a bit crap in pictures, but there's some nice lighting and smoke effects, certainly showed me my Hero was capable of more than I thought...

go here in your phone's browser to download it http://tinyurl.com/NE0C0RE

NeoCORE is usually a good benchmark. Wish someone could compile the scores for each device though.

Using an addon task manager seems kind of frivolous to me.
I just created a shortcut to "running services."

The "running apps" drawer in dxTop makes it even simpler than that, but I know dxTop isn't for everybody (though I definitely couldn't live without it now, for autorotating the homescreen alone).

Thank you! I had the trial, it expired and I moved to Swype, which definitely has some advantages (hold to input alt key, less need for accuracy), but I really prefer ShapeWriter on the whole for its style of correction, alternate keyboard layouts, and handling of capitalization.

EDIT: OH! ShapeWriter has been updated and has hold-to-alt, a smiley key, better key placement, and a much more logical landscape mode that is clearly designed to still be used with one thumb (the old one made it look as though you should be using both thumbs... which is impossible). Amazing update!

Also, I ran Neocore and apparently averaged 21fps on my Droid. It actually looks pretty sweet, though. The real-time lighting is awesome.

EDIT+: oh man and you can now slide the suggested words box with your thumb rather than having to tap the arrows. ShapeWriter > Swype confirmed
