What ROM is that? SuperHero?

Edit - Yeah, I guess your running SuperHero as I just saw the same screen and username over at VillainRom's forum. :D
Was about to say my lock screen doesn't look like that and im using the latest 2.1 official release

How do those snes/genesis emulators play. I read that they don't have multitouch pretty much making them worthless. I can't imagine not being able to run and jump at the same time in Mario.

Physical keypad, virtual keypad (with multitouch support), and Wii Remote support (via separate app).

I'm trying out Launcher Pro Beta from the market and it's very fast! Pinch to zoom preview screens are cool too.

You can't customize the shortcuts yet, but that's coming soon. I think I'll stick with this over ADW Launcher for now.

My buddy at work, who loves the Toss It game on Android, just showed me the new update to the paid version:

2010-05-17%2013.56.40.jpg

They added a few new levels, this one was one of them.

:lol

Also, the Market's website had a small face lift:

WOW. Already replaced Helix Launcher as my default. This thing is BLAZING.

I like it but I'm used to having 5 apps per line from CyanogenMod

I'm loving it, but what's the deal with no notification bar?

I still have my notification bar with Launcher Pro. I don't even see an option to remove it. Maybe it's something else that you installed that's causing it to disappear?

Well, I had ADW Launcherm but seeing as how you also had it, I don't see what may be causing the problem (I'm also using CM 5 test 3, Eclair).

The phone just rebooted itself, notification bar appears now.

I downloaded it and I'm sticking to ADW until more customization updates are available. Sure, ADW isn't as silky smooth as this but overclocked at 1.1 ghz, it goes pretty fast. The only thing preventing me from transferring over is that the browser button can't be changed to xscope and that the only thing you can change via settings is the amount of screens and which one's the default. I NEED MORE CUSTOMIZATION, DAMMIT. Aside from that, the speed is jaw-dropping.

If your default browser is Xscope it opens Xscope.

Gameloft ported all/most (idk) of their 3d games to Android, including Nova, Dungeon (or whatever its called) HAWX, Modern Combat, Gangstar, etc.

Can't get a link but the usual Android sites have the story. Oddly, they're not in the market, but available through Gameloft's website. Some people are having issues with some games, but say they get refunds without a problem from Gameloft since Gameloft is aware of the issues.

You guys running a secondary home app notice any difference in speed from the home screen when you press the home button to load back your icons and app drawer? It ALWAYS reloads all my icons and widgets when I hit home, as if it got wiped from the RAM and it's INCREDIBLY annoying :(
I'm thinking about replacing the default home apk with helix or launcherpro to help with this...

Why are you even using the default home app? Try either launcherpro or dxtop, RIGHT NOW. You're missing out so hard. They're both available and run smoothly on non rooted droids and you can get them from the android market. Now go!

You got me to try launcherpro.

I love it so far. Speedy, really nice, really snappy. I kinda wish I could rearrange and edit the app shortcuts at the bottom, but its not a deal breaker. Cool stuff.

I'm not sure if this is the place to post this, but here goes

Google Releases Updated Android Fragmentation Report said:
Google today has released on their developer site an updated chart showing the percentages of which flavor of Android are making up what is out in the wild on Android handsets. This is for devs to be able to develop appropriately for the percentages of users out there.

chart1.png

One has to feel for the Android devs out there. I know I do. With this kind of fragmentation it is almost as bad as developing for the web with the many different browsers out there. Notice in the chart below that most of Android users out there are still running 1.5 or 1.6. An interesting fact considering that we are starting to see many apps come out that are 2.1 only. Checkout the chart below to see the breakdown.

The breakdown is as follows:

Android Platform Percent of Devices
Android 1.1 0.1%
Android 1.5 34.1%
Android 1.6 28.0%
Android 2.0 0.2%
Android 2.0.1 0.4%
Android 2.1 37.2%

Interesting - at first glance I thought Android 2.1 was doing pretty nicely now, but they make a good point in the article - around 2/3rds are still on 1.5 and 1.6, I wonder what google has in store for those people, if anything

Sigh. So I'm slightly fed up in waiting for 2.1. Can someone point me in the direction of a page so I can download the modded version with basic instructions?

I have the HTC Hero on Orange.

Ta.

I didn't like it. 3 screens isnt enough especially with widgets. Plus it wasn't appreciably faster than my current default home screen.

Menu button -> Preferences. You can pick 3, 5, or 7 home screens.

Launcher Pro is configurable to up to 7 screens. That's about the only thing you can configure lol. You can say the number of screens, then you need to make sure the default(home) screen is set properly. You can do it iPhone style I guess and make the main home screen the 1st screen, or Android style where the home screen is the center screen. Or, anywhere in between.

An issue, though, it let me change the default messaging app from Messaging to Handcent. But I can't change my default browser to xScope, which is kind of annoying. Hopefully it would be addressed in the next update. If that happens, I'll probably keep using it and not look back to the default launcher.

I've been using Home++ because it is faster and allows browser configuration, among many other things.

Why is the stock launcher so bad? That is the first thing that anyone who looks at a phone sees! My biggest beef is with how slow and unresponsive it can be. Apple's home screens may lack customization, but they are lightning fast and very responsive.

It's really a symptom of an overall deficiency in UI polish that Android has. I really love the OS, and rooting my phone has helped, but in general the UI has some serious shortcomings.

Yup, the launcher is slow, specially if you have many apps installed. I'm still holding out for Froyo and its taunted increase in speed. Hopefully the launcher has more new features than the two extra icons on each side of the launcher icon.

Try doing this: go to application manager and clear defaults for your current browser or the default browser, download a new browser from the market, any browser you don't have installed, tap a bookmark in your homescreen (create one if you don't have any). It'll ask which one to set to default, pick xscope, voilá!
I did this yesterday, Launcherpro is so damn fast it instantly became my homescreen

Yep. I dont know why people are having problems getting the browser button to open Xscope. I installed the launcher and it immediately had all my defaults set up.

lol now that I can have 5+ homescreens I have learned I have no use for them.
I thought I'd never need more than 3 screens, but now I use seven and it'd be hard going down to even 5. It's the widgets for me, I have 1 screen dedicated almost entirely to CalWidget, showing my calendar, with 4 app icons on the bottom, and I have a screen didicated to music and podcasts with a custom music widget for XDA, pandora widget, Listen, etc. Then there's my phone settings screen with power control widget, Audio Manager Pro widget, sound profile shortcuts, etc.

More screens the merrier for me. MOAR SCREENZ.

Ok thanks! I got it to work now. Now I can safely say I won't be going back to stock(not just for the launcher, but other things in general)..... at least until 2.2 hits on the Nexus lol.

The Google Car...soon a reality.

Andy never looked so good rolling in a Chevrolet Volt! General Motors and OnStar have just announced the impending release of their latest Volt app which will be available across a wide variety of smartphones. Using the power and functionality of the Android platform Chevrolet has created an application that takes advantage of Google Maps, Voice Recognition, and direct communication with the car via text message or email. When you hear that Android is taking over you may have thought they meant they are outselling a company that is named after a fruit, but not the case as we now see. Android is now the best invention since the universal remote with everything it can do these days.

OnStar with GM will be showing off what they have been working on at the upcoming 2010 Google I/O Conference. The features you will see being demoed are as follows.

* Charge status display – plugged in or not and voltage (120V or 240V)
* Flexibility to "Charge Now" or schedule charge timing
* Display percentage of battery charge level, electric and total ranges
* Ability to manually set grid-friendly charge mode for off-peak times when electricity rates are lowest
* Send text or email notifications for charge reminders, interruptions and full charge
* Display miles per gallon, electric only miles, and odometer readings
* Shows miles per gallon, EV miles and miles driven for last trip and lifetime
* Remotely start the vehicle to pre-condition the interior temperature
* Use Google Maps to send directions to the Volt so it can be pre-loaded before you even arrive in the drivers seat
* Have the choice of using either OnStar Navigation or Google turn-by-turn Navigation
* View your cars current location via GPS at all times

A real slick car with some real slick features. The app is currently available for Motorola Droid, Blackberry Storm, and iPhone. Check out this video of it on the Motorola Droid: http://www.androidguys.com/2010/05/18/onstar-google-volt-20/

I'm not sure exactly why I need the expose style zoom out, but it's really neat!

Sweet, this worked for me, i was wondering how to get this to use the browser icon.

The only thing about LauncherPro for me now is I'm using a clear status bar morph and with LauncherPro and a static wallpaper the top notification bar is black instead of being clear.

Everything else is running great.

Ill give it another shot. How do you go back to stock home launcher after selecting launcher pro, though? The home icon isnt in the app selection screen.

If you've set it as default you'll have to go to menu->settings->applcations->manage apps->launcherpro app and clear defaults.

If you haven't set it to default, just press the home button to select.

Under manage applications, press settings. From there, select filters, then select all. All apps will show up. Find the default home launcher, then set as default there.

Edit: The above should work also.

Installed the Launcher Pro on top of my SuperHero ROM.

Wow, this things manages to look good and is still very fast! This looks like a keeper.

Launcher Pro still needs some work. Smooth as hell scrolling between launch screens, but the launcher into the apps drawer isn't as smooth and I miss the 3d effect. Pretty impressive for a beta mind.
