Bookmark it, and leave a shortcut to the bookmark on the desktop.

Kinda. You can make home screen icons of bookmarks. So first you have to bookmark it, then you can long press the bookmark to place it on the home screen.

Depending on which version of Android you're on, the icon might include the little neogaf favicon in the corner

I hope HTC Desire, Nexus One sibling, gets 2.2 soon... Otherwise I will be forced to root it...

With the length of time it is taking HTC to get 2.1 out for the Hero I wouldn't bet on any speedy updates.

Or the NeoGAF shortcut will look like this:

Sooo awesome.

So is it HTC that is holding it up? Or is it Sprint?

Either way, it's ridiculous. I actually rooted my Hero and have 2.1 on there now. The official Hero 2.1 firmware that I guess was leaked. So it's ready to go. C'mon Sprint/HTC!

Facebook and Google need to get their shit together and release a new Facebook Android app from the ground up. The current incarnation is a piece of shit for numerous reasons.

I know there is some bad blood between the two especially Facebook announcing two years ago that Android was vaporware and they weren't going to support it since it was just going to die. Now Android as a mobile OS platform is ahead of iPhone OS :lol

the hope is the guy who left the android team to go to facebook will assist in purging us of the current piece of shit

Umm, no it's not

Anyways, time to root my Nexus when it's comes back from HTC for the 2nd time :(..Any tips?
I really liked VillainROM 5.5, it worked very well.

If you're more experimental and want to enable JIT, you could try SuperVillain from the same guy that does VillainROM. It's donators only at the moment, but should be for all users as soon as he has ironed out the bugs. SuperVillain supports multiple exchange mail accounts which is a big plus IMO.

I've heard that BeHero+ is quite good as well.

Yep, saw it this morning. Seems there's a number of outlets who have gotten their hands on n1's with 2.2 onboard. I think we're going to get a series of "leaks" like this for the next week, leading up to Google IO.

Android 2.2 List updated (some items rumored, not all confirmed):

  • Flash 10.1 Support
  • JIT Compiler (significant perf. gains)
  • Store apps on card
  • New user tutorial
  • Search bar now has alternate search options
  • Phone and Browser icons added to launch bar
  • updated kernel using less internal memory
  • Support for FM radio
  • Open GL ES 2.0 enhancements
  • Automatic App Updates (Enable/Disable)
  • Color Trackball support
  • Wireless N support
  • USB Tethering
  • Enable as portable Wifi Hotspot
Damn. It still needs BT voice command. So simple to implement. So necessary. PEACE

It also needs leap support for wireless and real native exchange support or it will continue to wallow in nothingness for the enterprise

They forgot to mention it's only the first quarter of 2010. iPhone still has almost 4 times the amount of market share in the US

Hasn't it's down to 2.5 times the amount of marketshare now.

It also apparently needs a disclaimer that this is probably NOT a complete list of 2.2 upgrades. :p

This is definitely one reason I'm glad I got an HTC phone. Exchange support in the native Mail app out of the box. And now with Push in 2.1. :D

It's not like us iPhone users have much to look forward to either. The guy who made it so awesome left the project and we now are stuck with (what seems to be) some incompetent no-name facebook dev. App hasn't been updated forever, and the last time it was had some nice bugs.

:lol

It usually goes to mobile site but I can swear the last time I had a notif it went to the touch site.

If the touch site news feed wasn't such a disaster of only displaying 1 out of 25 updates and mixing in updates from 5 hours ago with an update from 4 minutes ago, and if the photos didn't suck so bad, I'd uninstall the Facebook app. But the Touch website isn't good enough to use on its own.

Argh.

Worst part about the facebook app is that there's no way to look at events (as far as I know) which is the only thing I even use facebook for.

yea this is shit right here

i wanna know what's going on where it's going and who's going to it and yet i can't! bullshit!

it's basically a "status update app" as it is :lol

Fucking facebook. Why do I even use it anymore. Bunch of shit. Yet I'm addicted to the bloody notifications and witty status updates and 'Leaving the page open just in case she wants to say hi'...

Fuck facebook.

Okay, wet your lips cause you're gonna have to suck some of my extremities after I tell you this :P

Go to Facebook.
Open events.
Scroll down.
Click export events.
Copy URL.
Go to calendar.google.com
On the left at the bottom of the 'Other calendars' section there's add.
Select Add from URL.
Paste URL.

Go to phone.
Add calendar widget to some homescreen.

:D

Wow acting pissed off at facebook and showing addiction to it in the same post. Lovely.

It's HTC holding it up, as I've a GSM Hero in the UK and it's still waiting for 2.1 too. The operators here have blamed HTC for the hold-up, as the update was supposed to land in February but is due next month now after continuous delays.

I've mine rooted and tried VillainROM 5.5 but I found the battery drained too fast on it for my liking, as it has to use the CDMA version of the ROM.

I'd been contacting HTC about the update and they told me it'd been delayed due to "unforeseen circumstances."

More than likely a business decision to get customers to buy the HTC Desire or the Legend rather than go for the Hero.

I deleted my Facebook account a couple of weeks ago. I lead up to it by a few days of posting my Google and Twitter names in case my "friends" need to contact me.

I'll miss out on some pics and goings on, sure, but I can't continue to support Facebook's horrible view of content rights and the Internet in general. I'm trying to be a little over-active on Twitter and Buzz, posting updates, pictures, etc. to try to attract more of my contacts to those services.

i basically only use facebook for pictures, and thats the worst aspect of the touch website (there is nothing for picture viewing in the app)

i use twitter only for news feeds basically (it tells me when a new beer goes on tap at my local microbreweries

What phone you got?

HTC Sense integrates very well to the facebook photos via the photos app.

Android 2.1 has similar functionality if I'm not mistaken.

nexus one, i have found no way to view photos other then the touch website... am i missing something? I can upload them fine with the gallery app

As in photo albums?

The app does it...even has pinch to zoom. I have to be misunderstanding you because when you launch facebook one of the big icons in your face is Photos.
