Wondering if anyone has encountered this glitch: the stock music player suddenly stops playing midsong. It doesn't report a Force Close, it simply pauses like it thinks I've pulled out the headphones. I've tried reproducing it by checking if the headset is actually loose but so far I can't reproduce it at will and it seems random.

I recently installed Music Mod but the issue predates that and continues despite that. Running stock 2.2 on Nexus 1. Anyone seen this?

I had a similar experience today, but instead of just pausing, it completely rebooted. No way for me to know if it was the player that caused it or some other process, but it's the first time my DX has crashed.

Do you have any task killers running? Tried different headphones at all? Maybe it's a loose connection.

Never touch task killers. And it happens no matter what line I have connected to the headset jack. It also happens when the phone is completely stationary and isn't being jostled at all.

Been trying to use aLogCat to see if there's an error or anything reported that hints at the problem, but so far I haven't caught anything.

Yeah that is strange, I haven't had any issues like that. Had a lot of issues back when I used to have a task killer before I figured out my phone ran a lot better without one. You may have better results posting this issue on the XDA forums.

Ok, so i break down and get Launcher Pro..except i can't find a way to activate it? It's not listed as an app and whenever i hit my home button it just uses the Driod Incredible home dock thing :/

DCX

I've had that happen a lot. I'm pretty convinced that it's just android deciding to stop the music player service when it gets starved for memory. I found that it always happened when I was running a lot of apps that spawned heavy services. (WidgetLocker and Beautiful Widgets were prime culprits for me, sadly). I uninstalled them and the music player has been much more stable.

Check your running services and see how much memory you have free. If you're running close to max, experiment with shutting down some of the hogs and see if it helps.

DCX

If all else fails try Home Switcher.

Free app on the Market.

Hmm, good point. I'll have to check into that.

Found this on reddit, seems very useful.
What if your phone automatically went silent when you step into the movie theater? Texted your significant other when you finished your long commute? Or automatically turned down the volume when a particularly loud friend called? It can; here's how.

The HTC Desire is getting Froyo this weekend, provided you're in Europe and your phone is unlocked. Also, it gets 720p video recording and iTunes sync. (though I don't understand why anyone would want to use that)

Wow, ok.
So here is my launcher plus story.

For about the last month and a half, my phone has been acting weird occasionally. It's been sensing "phantom inputs" I'd press an icon and then the phone would halt and appear to sense an input on the screen until I have to lock and unlock. It causes all types of weird problems. I actually THOUGHT my screen was damaged. Anyway, last week I disabled launcher plus because I was tired of how it sometimes would have to reload icons when resources got strained..

And WOW, my phone has been acting perfectly normal ever since! Obviously it's not a widespread case because everyone loves launcher pro, but clearly there was something weird going on with it and my device.

im gonna guess your memory settings werent optimal or something.

I know this may sound weird but every time I try launcher pro, the Facebook app starts randomly closing or resetting back to the start page. Then when I uninstall launcher pro, facebook starts working again.

If you have Samsung Captivate/vibrant/whatever try doing a factory reset... In one forum some are claiming it would get rid of all/some off the crapware that's been installed in it by operators.. or do you need to root it first?

http://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/9...od/page__st__60__p__592970898&#entry592970898

No need to do a factory reset, just root it and install Titanium Backup. You can remove all the AT&T crap (just don't go overboard and remove the non-AT&T Google stuff).

Cause Android has a built in task killer

How does it work? I'm not gonna lie, I was recommended a Task Killer from someone who has had an Android phone since the G1. I just got my Incredible about a month or so ago so I'm still new to this. I've never experienced any sort of slow down or anything like that due to having resources spread out to too many apps but then again whenever I'm done using my phone and I hit the "Kill Tasks" button, I get a message saying like, "12 tasks ended. XXXmb memory available" At least on the surface it seems as though it's doing something.

Is there an official Android 2.1 document talking about the built in Task Manager system that I could read about? Thanks :D

Here's some info on how Android's Task management works, I'm new to Android my self so don't know a whole lot yet.

Good read...thanks

Seems as though Task Killers can be useful if used properly. I now know why I get prompted to download many many updates for different apps on my phone all at once. 2.2 will take care of that with the auto update all feature so that's no big deal.

However, I just opened my Task Manager now and there are apps I haven't opened in a long ass time running. I don't know how. :/

What kind of apps? Are they the type that might have a periodic update with the web, or checking your phone status, or they could just be apps that don't use up much in the way of resources.

As I understand it, task managers are useless due to the fact that android should be managing the memory automatically - in a sense that it'll decide which apps don't need to still be open when the memory gets low.

I was using task managers for a while when I first got my desire, but after I stopped, I found that my battery life and phone speed were negligibly different. The only difference was that I didn't have to keep opening apps I had been using recently and frequently, due to the task manager deciding to kill everything that wasn't explicitly white-listed.

Titanium backup rules! Got rid of all the useless crap and got 45mb back. Awesome. Had to uninstall updates before removing maps and Facebook but it worked like a charm.

Anyone know about there being any major software bugs in the Incredible or Andoird?

Starting yesterday, I began getting a low memory error message. The strange thing is that I've only had the phone for a week, and after double checking available space I was able to confirm that I'd barely even scratched the surface on memory used. In other words, the error message was totally bogus.

Before I knew it, I had a second memory error message. When this one showed up, I was unable to send SMS, do email or even browse the web. I was still able to make phone calls, but the phone was 80% useless. So, I figured I'd just do a reset, and that would likely fix the issue, right? Low and behold when I restarted, the phone was bricked. WTF? I've had this thing for under a WEEK!

After doing some research, it turns out there is a very well known memory leak on the Incredible. Verizon and HTC have no solution, and it just hits randomly. Talk about rifuckingdiculous.

Full detail here:
http://forum.androidcentral.com/dro...emory-leak-bug-phone-storage-getting-low.html

I use this phone for work, as it's connected to my Exchange account. I can't be without out, and after just switching from an iPhone 4 last week I'm starting to question my decision. Is Android really this unstable? Or, I'm I the one unlucky guy to have an issue? Is Andoid just not good for corporate exchange email?

Bottom line is Verizon is sending me a new Incredible overnight that I'm expecting to receive today by 1pm. But, I asked for them to place an order for a Droid X for me as my confidence in the Incredible is gone....

Thank you for that. I was trying to figure out how I'd get my transparent widgets back for some of these apps. :D PEACE.

EDIT: Eh...nevermind, it still won't let me install the new genie.apk. I'm thinking the Ava ROM released yesterday still has some quirks. I guess I'll try some one of the deodexed Froyo ROMs.

Hey mind sharing that new genie?

Well last I check before I killed the tasks it was the app City ID and this app called Where?. I don't even use these, I should just uninstall them. The City ID app came with my phone but I've never used it.

Have a Captivate. Rooted today and did Titanium to get rid of AT&T programs. Now Im trying to sideload stuff on but no matter what I do the device is never found. I have both drivers and have the debugging mode enabled. Cant seem to figure this out and google isnt giving me the fixes that work for me. Seeing if anyone here had some insight.

Did you actually mount the drive? Slide down the notification menu, and you should see 2 USB items. One will say debug is connected, the other will just say USB connected. Click on the normal USB one. It will ask if you want to mount the drive, and after you click that, it should show up. Not sure if you tried that, but that is what I do to get the drive to show in Finder for me.

stupid noob question, but if i root my droidX, will i still be able to install 2.2 when its available?

Not the OTA. It'll most likely break root. But if you're rooted you'll probably be able to flash a 2.2 ROM.

Basically what Circle T said, but did you mod it to enable side loading? Once you load the apps on there, you'll have to modify a database file to get it working.

Read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728121

I think I used http://sqlitestudio.one.pl/index.rvt to modify the database. Make a backup of the database file before messing with it, and make sure you don't modify anything besides the non market apps option.

I'm confused. Why can't these phones just install foreign APKs? When you mod it to install sideloading, it doesn't enable that?

Isn't there a setting in the applications section of settings for that? (Install non-market applications)

Or are you talking about something else?

Yeah. I thought that was what was disabled on AT&T phones and that the setting was the thing that was unlocked when you modded it. I don't know. I'm so overtired it's ridiculous and I can't think straight. Nobody needs to bother answering I'll figure it out myself in the morning.
