Hi everyone,
I just noticed that my X10 mini pro didnt come with the android market. Is there anyway to get apps on my phone besides the android market ?

That's kind of messed up - the standard X10 mini pro does come with it, though I don't think it's on the home screen. Are you sure it's not just buried in the menus somewhere?

After rooting I'm installing so many apps it's not funny. I adore the freedom, and it's so very easy. Gorgeous!

Are there any app drawer replacement apps? At the moment I'm using Launcher Pro and can replace the app drawer button with anything I like.... but scrolling through a few hundred apps is a bit crazy. Ultimately I'd be happy with a "folder" structure (a la App Organiser) however it would need to launch as an app.

The URL it sends me to is touch.facebook.com which is instantly diverting to the full site....GRRRR

Anyone know of a way to fix this? My Google-fu has failed me once again.

Strange that some are getting the full site and others are getting the touch one.

Maybe its redirecting based on the user agent of the browser you're using. In HTC stock browsers you need to check the "Mobile View" option in settings to get sites like Facebook to trigger their mobile versions of sites, in Dolphin etc select "iPhone" or "Android" as the User Agent, then try again.

Yeah, Im sure. I searched google and it seems like im not the only one who has that problem.

What phones?

Mine's HTC and I'm suspecting this is related to HTC somehow.

Samsung Galaxy Spica (I5700) with stock Android browser -> getting diverted to the full desktop site.

EDIT: found a solution. When this happens ->

- Log in the full site after being redirected to it
- Click on (Start/Home/Whatever is the link called in the english version) in the top right corner, next to "Profile" and "Account") -> You'll be redirected to the touch version
- From now on, the FB app notifications will automatically divert you to touch.facebook.com (though it's still retarded because it's stuff that could be seen from the FB app directly)

mine is weird.. the url says touch.facebook, which then redirects to facebook.com, which then redirects AGAIN to touch.facebook where it stops

Mine is HTC Desire with OpenDesire stock rom (non-Sense)

Yep, this is facebook's idiocy now that I think about it. Retrieval of the cookie to log you back in only happens through www.facebook.com so it takes you to touch, finds cookie, authenticates you through www and then the browser decides where the fuck to throw you. But yeah, now it seems to be working better after having explicitly chosen the touch site after one of the opened links.

Still, it doesn't work like it's supposed to. Instead of directly showing you the status update that got commented/liked, it just shows the profile of the person and you have to search the update from there.

I just noticed that the Like and Comment stuff are done completely within app for EVERYTHING other than for notifications.. why don't notifications just take you to the same spot as, say, the news feed... i'm starting to think the webbrowser linking was unintentionally left that way

I'm just gonna go right ahead and say "Cause facebook sucks" and get it over with.

Haha, well I agree with you there, unfortunately it has become a necessary part of my life since everyone else uses it..

I wonder if these UI developments have anything to do with the fact that Mark Z just bought an android phone

What app is this lockscreen? And is it transparent?

Didn't know that. Gotta be good news for us then. IMHO anyone who prioritizes iPhone apps over Android apps with such a great margin is taking a very short sighted approach. And they suck. :D

I'm looking for an app that'll allow me to send files from my phone to my pc, sort of like an 'awesome drop' but in reverse. At the moment I'm just emailing myself files (usually photos) that I need on my PC off my phone, is there an easier way to go about this, or am I already using the best method?

So I updated to official Froyo (the root version) and I seem to have lost Navigator, which isn't on the market. Any ideas what might have happened?

What's Navigator? Do you have Google Maps?

do you have BT on your PC? If yes it is pretty easy ;)

The features he added are great, I had no trouble with the bookmark or people widgets but once gestures and calendar came along its been glitchy, extremely laggy and force closing left and right. Comments in the app store show I'm not the only one.

The 2.2 launcher is pretty cool, from the shortcuts to card view for jumping. Ill be using it until Launcher Pro gets its act back together and have no problem if that never happens. Fede doesn't seem to get the widget game and lp is becoming bloated.
Seriously? I haven't experienced that at all. If anything my phone was getting a little sluggish before the 2.2 update and now it's been completely smooth and amazing again. Haven't experienced any of that. Although I only played around with the gestures for like 20 minutes last night, I really don't have anything much to do with them with the limited options for their activation that are presented.

It's WidgetLocker Lockscreen. I don't know what you mean by transparent. Here's an Appbrain link: http://goo.gl/6cgn

Is there a Twitter widger that shows more than the most recent tweet? I'd like one where I can see the last 3-5 posted by the people I'm following. Twitter and TweetCaster both seem to only do one.

The only one which works really well in that respect is the widget provided with HTC Sense. Hopefully we'll see more like it when scrollable widgets become the norm.

Do you use dropbox? I use the dropbox app to send files to my computer.. i made an "android" folder and i upload anything into there

if you haven't heard of dropbox - it is basically a web server that stores a bunch of your files, which can be synced to any computer you use if you wish to have a local copy of the files. So if you upload something from the phone, it'll appear on your computer - i've found the syncing on PC to be near instant without manual input from the user, so it is the best solution I've found (though I was already using dropbox for everyday file syncing between my uni/work/home/notebook computers)

Here is where you should get started:
www.dropbox.com
or if you are feeling generous, though I don't really care either way, you can use this link:
https://www.dropbox.com/referrals/NTIzODM5OTA5 (referral which gets me an extra 250mb of online storage space :) )

Thanks. I meant are those widgets on your homescreen in the background of the lockscreen. But it looks at though they are actually on the lockscreen.

Anybody know why Music Mod widgets would only seem to want to control playlists? When I play something in music and I go back to my home screen where the Music Mod widget is, it's not displaying any info abut the track playing, just says no playlist found or something like that.

Quick question regarding WidgetLocker Lockscreen.. Does it work when you have a pattern unlock? Because when I enable pattern unlock, it removes the swipe to unlock screen

music mod is it's own (almost identical) app, i think.. are you playing the music from the stock music app or the music mod app?

navigator uses the gps to give me turn-by-turn directions. At least it always has. It's also the first icon in car home.

What phone and what carrier? Was the Froyo update OTA?
Navigation in Google Maps is FREE and should be part of the app. Do you have a "Navigation" icon in the App drawer?

The Car app on Froyo has the Navigation option.

If you are missing the Navigation option I would blame your carrier. Maybe they want you to pay for the service with another app.

one reason why i disliked it.

navigator/navigation is just a link to google maps, its weird you lost it, you can always try to go to applications, maps, uninstall updates, and then reinstall the updates from the market, this should bring back the icon

either way you can still access it through google maps

Thanks for answering my question. I must have had the wrong app or something. Downloaded the one on the market for Froyo and it works fine now. Great app.

I'll be honest, I'm not sure if that is sarcasm :lol .. I'm sorry if I didn't answer the playlist question directly - I'm actually not sure about the answer to that exactly as I personally have never had the issue of it saying 'no playlist' unless my phone had only just booted

Did you replace the Music app with Music Mod as your default music app? I do not have this issue. Even when I sync my bluetooth headphones and hit play it loads up MusicMod and the widget works properly (even with none playlisted music).

Wow this is amazing. The way stuff is progressing and how quickly apps are being released I think that by GingerBread HTC Sense (best UI currently out there imo) will be obliterated by what can be downloaded for free.

I remember when I got the Hero last September looking for 'widget' in the Market barely gave you any results. Recently the huge burst of apps with widgets (or just widgets) is great and the end results are pretty awesome.

I'm in love with Android. Goddammit.

I'm on a Droid, but apparently there's an issue where you simply can't get maps off on the marketplace ATM, and my phone was having issues from an update. Grabbed a maps APK and installed that, now it's fine. Thanks though!

I installed Flash but the showcase said it wasn't installed, I'm rebooting now to see whatsup.

edit: Reboot did the trick. Flash show me what you've got!

How do you install Flash on the Droid after manually installing froyo? I installed Adobe Showcase, but when I go to it it shows that it isn't installed. Rebooted as well. What am I missing?

I believe adobe showcase is just a set of links to flash content, the app you need is called Flash Player 10.1 BETA 3 (if you've got adobe showcase, navigate to that app in the market and click 'view more applications' from the developer to find the rest of the adobe apps)

widgets are what really sets apart the interface from the iphone. I went icon-less last week with widget only for most things and i love it

funny, because I just went widget-less last week. I got tired of my lowly myTouch 3G lagging (even with CyanogenMod). I removed all widgets and set a black wallpaper with an extremely small file size. Running much better now.

But I do agree with you. Widgets are one of the things that make Android > iOS. Now I just need to get a more powerful Android phone to take advantage.

josephdebono said:
The previous version used to divert me to m.facebook.com which is pretty pointless. touch or bust.

I still get diverted to m.facebook no matter what. I certainly never get thrown to the full site from the app.

I wouldn't mind toooo much if I got thrown to the touch site(staying in the app in general is ideal, of course), but I can't stand the mobile one. Ugh.

Edit: beje, maybe your browser is set as desktop rather than Android or iPhone or whatever other options some browsers have out there.

Haha no, not sarcasm. You got me thinking about it and I realized I didn't have the right files downloaded or that the widget was linking to the incorrect player. Either way, it's working now so I'm happy.

Asked this is the EVO thread, but does anyone know the app that syncs your contacts pictures with their Facebook picture updates? I had it before I went to rooted 2.2 yesterday.

Launcher Plus already shits on Sense, although I miss Sense's shortcut-adding list style.

The phone should do it natively. In your FB settings, you can set FB to sync to your contacts in your phone.

At a very low res though. Something Google is supposedly looking into fixing in upcoming OS updates.

i actually just downloaded pure messenger widget because using native twitter and facebook widgets was destroying my battery. (and good god ESPN scorecenter is a battery sucker). That has been the only negative i've noticed so far, dont notice a speed decrease, although i'm running a N1
