That seems like a hell of a lot of effort.

Well I only have 9 contacts for my phone, so it wasn't that bad. It's basically just creating new "phone" contacts without anything but pictures (hi res ones) and linking them with your gmail contacts. It has something to do with the way gmail syncs contacts that fucks them up, apparently.

Although I flashed to a cyanogen rom (stock android) and this method wasn't working...so it may only be for Sense enabled devices.

Came across a handful of fun little games yesterday and wanted to share. All free.

Pixel Chaos
EWWQH.png

It doesn't look like much but that's the point. In the style of WarioWare, it's a (small) collection of simple, 8bit-ish minigames. I'm a sucker for this kind of stuff (I liked Hot Pixel on PSP if that says anything) so I'm thrilled. It's not amazing, it's not packed with variety, but it's free fun for a couple minutes.

Superhero Alliance
1Q4Hc.png

An online superhero menu-based mmorpg. Kinda cool, I'm not usually into these kinds of games but it seems pretty compelling and polished.

Speed Skater
dRrAG.png

Kinda like Catapult but on a skateboard. It's a keeper imo. Not much else to say, has some funny lines when you mess up.

I'm looking for an app that'll allow me to send files from my phone to my pc, sort of like an 'awesome drop' but in reverse.

Dropbox + OI File Manager. Pick the file, share through Dropbox. Dropbox is awesome, it's worth the few minutes it takes to setup and learn. It's killer for school and work.

Seriously? I haven't experienced that at all.

Yeah. It got really, really bad. I'm not sure why but I was running all of his widgets. If that's the problem than that's a big problem, obviously I want to use them. But yep, force closes over and over again, the app drawer did 100 odd things every 30 minutes and it was slow as hell. I've seen some comments in the market and on his forum, I'm not alone, but not everyone is experiencing this. Sucks.

How do you install Flash on the Droid after manually installing froyo?

Droid-Life had a like to the Adobe Flash apk, I didn't see it in the app market yesterday for whatever reason. It works great, videos play like silk on Facebook and anywhere else such as Cnet. The app replacement life is finally over, no need for a cnet app to see cnet videos...the full web (I went there) is here.

Anybody know of an app that will show me what is currently consuming the battery power? Rooted my EVO with simple root last night, put 2.2 on there, did fps fix, then setup my SetCPU profiles how it had been before. My battery under JuicePlotter is just steadily going down, and much faster than before. It'll probably still make it through the day, but I had been getting to where I'd be going to bed and having 40% left.

I disabled some of the auto updating that was there by default under accounts and sync or something under settings. Disabled everything but my Google account for contacts, emails, and calendar I believe, which is fine since it's by push IIRC.

Yeah I was looking more for what applications. I tried that and it doesn't help much. Cell standby is at 46% which is very high, so something is using the radio and using way too much of it. I'm wondering if it's Facebook for Android, I checked it out because I liked the new update, it's set to update only when I tell it to. But I had problems with that app before taking too much juice.

I think if it was due to the fb using antenna, facebook would actually be usage. That's my assumption at least.

It could be that your power usage is low enough such that being on standby is statistically responsible for most of your power usage.

Download Spare Parts and go to Battery History > (First Dropdown) Partial Wake Usage then wait for it to gather the data and update.

Edit: can anybody help me with my wi-fi problem? It randomly turns itself off at odd times and I can't seem to get it to stop. Usually when the screen is off or something like that. Very annoying.

Will do this when I get home, thanks for the tip.

Mine just stops working randomly while using it, I assumed a software fix would be coming as I believe others are experiencing this too.

Looking for an RSS reader widget that shows at least 2-3 most recent articles and preferably is scrollable.

let me know if you find anything that is compatible with google reader. I can't believe Google hasn't released one of its own.

Is their an app like Words (bullets, indent, etc) that can also sync with Google Docs?

I tried going to Google docs.com, but I can only view it.

Try FeedR. Syncs with Google Reader and has an extremely customisable widget.

hey that's the one i grabbed actually. only thing is i can't figure out how to customize the widget. All I see are the select feeds and auto-rotate options but nothing as to size and the like.

this explains my sudden poor battery life wow...I used spare parts to check my partial wake usage...facebook was huge 95% of the total.

In response, I dropped it entirely from the syncs, and put updades to never.

That's facebook for HTC Sense, IIRC. So you'll want to go into the Facebook for Android App and log out as well. And yeah, I think my problem is Facebook as well, as soon as I logged out my battery started performing how it should.

Settings > Wireless and network > Wi-fi Settings > Menu Button > Advanced > Wi-Fi sleep policy > Never

Will drain battery, but if you're on wifi you may not be concerned. Doesn't bother me, I still get through the day on heavy use on my Galaxy.

Have you checked the advanced WiFi settings? It might be set to go onto mobile data when in standby.

I definitely think now that the issue earlier with my battery drain was because of Google Talk being automatically signed in. I had that problem before until I realized it signed in on it's own. Maybe Facebook wasn't the problem or only part of it.

Google Talk on my phone (xperia x10) is auto sign in, but the battery life is decent (decrease ~1% per hr on standby).

Damn, hadnt upgraded fb until I read how excited everyone was about it. Now I read that its a battery drain :( balls.

I have an HTC Aria coming from AT&T...

So I'm curious about what games are good on the droid marketplace?

Also what are some pretty interesting music programs on there as well?

Appreciate any help you can give me.

Yeah, it's set to never already it seems. It might be some app interfering with it. I'll investigate more deeply.

I don't use it too often, but it's really handy if I'm looking for directions right before heading out. So awesome :D

Just installed it on my phone and browser. Love it already!

Google talk has always auto-signed in for me, and I use it very often.. and I've never experienced the dropping battery until I installed the Facebook update, after which Spare Parts claims that the Facebook is constantly keeping the phone in a constant partial-wake state

I use Beyond Pod. It appears to do everything you want, plus it manages and downloads podcasts however you want. Works amazing. I've been using it for a long time now and it is very reliable. Never had a problem with it.

Ditto, I installed that last night and looked at my battery usage for the past 2 hours and it's been in partial wake state the whole time. Logging off that, and I'll only use the app periodically and sign out when I'm done. They need to fix that, but I'm probably asking too much for them to do another update within the next year. :lol

I know some folks on here use FeedR -- does anyone know how to get the widget to load more than one story? And how to make it bigger?

I get into the phones 'hidden' menu by typing into the call number screen : *#*#4636#*#*

Sometimes it's really helpful, sometimes not. I'm using a Hero though so not sure if it's the same command.

EDIT - nvm. Spare Parts does the same.

Just as a note, that hidden menu (and many others called up similarly) doesn't work anymore for Custom ROMs for the Evo (and maybe for other phones as well, but I don't know). Apparently, EPST is a service that sits there, and listens for/captures those special dialing sequences to bring up the menu, but it is missing/not integrated in custom 2.2 ROMs. Or at least, it's not capturing all of them, because some still work. There's a thread on xda about it.

So a few weeks ago I was harshin' on PacmanCE for running like bullshit.
Well lastnight I made the jump to 2.2 and it runs swimmingly now!

Apparently the updated facebook app might drain the battery quite fast...

http://www.androidpolice.com/2010/08/05/flipz-of-fresh-roms-facebook-1-3-eats-battery-hardcore/

Without going into more detail, what this basically means is that even when your phone isn’t in use, the Facebook app may cause it to continue to burn through CPU cycles (and RAM/ROM cycles, for that matter). The end result is that your battery life takes a significant hit.

FUUUUUCK!!!

I have noticed the hit in battery life...and here I was blaming Pure Messenger, which I installed the same day the FB app was updated.

I will uninstalled the sucker if I have to. Right now I'm just going to Log Out and see if that works.

Edit: I'm going to uninstall the update instead. Going back to shittier version with no battery hit.

The hit is absolutely huge. I noted it above - my battery was being torched just as fast as if I was using it, Facebook was over 95% of the total sum of all idle/partial wake.

After an uninstall my battery life is back to very good - approx 1% (a little less) an hour during standby.

i dont use the app that much, i use pure messenger to get the updates and reply and i just made sure the app was closed. When i was playing around with it yesterday it was horrendous how fast my battery died

Yup. The marketplace comments and Facebook for Android page Facebook page were pretty much on fire since yesterday.

Don't screw with people's social networking apps, even if they aren't all that great to begin with.
