yep i had three apps stuck on authorizing purchase for 3+ days. nothing worked, including deleting and restarting (many times), doing it on cell network, etc. finally emailed the dev of the first thing that got stuck and posted in the google help forums which apps weren't coming through. finally next day they did go through. no idea what, if anything specific, fixed it though.

Looks like you can fix the Force Close on the Friends if you go to Settings > Sync > Facebook and turn off the Contact sync. Considering that Facebook HTC Sense ALSO has a Contacts sync, not sure if the data would clash at all.

Nope. I'm on Nexus One stock Froyo, and it shows 1.3.1

That's pretty odd... if I go to Facebook > Menu > About it says 1.3.1. If I go to manage apps, it says 140. Also, just noticed that on the About page there's a link to submit bugs.

:lol I get the feeling that Facebook just brought in someone to run the Android app and they're trying to get a feel for the chaos that existed before.
 
anyone here use MOG? i'm thinking of biting for a month for 9.99 to see how much i would use it. It would be nice to have all that music available

Now that's weird ... I updated the FB app yesterday , and it's asking me for an update once again ...

edit : even weirder , I can't download it , must be some kind of mistake because it should already be up to date .

Do you see a little microphone on your keyboard?

Edit: Do you have a hardware or software keyboard? If a software one, there should be a little microphone key. Click it, and speak. If you have a hardware keyboard, I can't imagine it's all that dissimilar.

Galaxy S, software keyboard, I put it on swype mode - the samsung default doesn't have the little mic on it either.

Galaxy S has Swype on it? Or you put it there? Doesn't matter, I guess. You'll be out of luck if you want to use Swype, because I think I remember hearing that Swype was still working on their voice-to-text feature.

I think Cyanogen has a modded keyboard included with their ROM, and if you can find it on xda (I know someone somewhere ripped it out and put up the apk to install separately if you want), it might work on your phone. It's no Swype, but it's still a good keyboard.

Edit: Or do what he said, maybe another third party app can fill in that gap.

Hey guys - new to Android and I have a single question:

How do I get access to remove carrier-installed apps? They don't appear in the Applications menu, but I really want some of them out of there - they load at boot and are really bothering me.

You have to root to do that. A lot of custom roms have preloaded apps removed.

As others said, you need to root. What phone do you have?
 
Picked up the cheap new Huawei U8100 from Wind this morning.
It has this annoying social search engine (Servo) that indexes all my twitter/facebook/gmail contacts and constantly runs in the background.

Is rooting pretty easy?

The steps depend on the phone. I wonder if it's even popular enough for people to have even come up with steps. Best do a google search.

Beautiful Widgets looks better IMO, gives you the option of a large or small widget, has a ton of skins, has weather animations, has 5-day forecast with Accuweather, has lots of in-app customization like transparency, font, color & icons, and is updated very frequently.

I have a phone with Sense, and I still opted to buy and use Beautiful Widgets (Small) instead of HTC's widget.
 
I don't know how many people already use this.. but just in case you are unaware of this amazing ability (as I was until just now)

Over-the-air app install

Get two apps from the market:
AppBrain App Market (this is a 3rd party interface to the same android market google has)
Fast Web Installer

So with this combo installed and synced with your google account.. you can browse the app market on appbrain.com, and if you click install on the webpage it instantly starts downloading and installing on your phone - it'll give you the permissions/security warnings before you hit install on the website

so good.

Beautiful Widgets also costs money and is a bit 'gluttonous'. :D

FWIW, I bought Beautiful Widgets day one and prefer Fancy Widget.
 
Yeah Appbrain is awesome and being able to now put a link anywhere that will automatically do a fast install and cut out the need to go to the site is amazing for recommendations on forums and blogs.
 
I can't seem to setup my hotmail account on the email client.I searched for some answers but did not find anything definitive.anyone got any suggestions?
 
Is there any way to sync back from Android to iTunes? I'd like to have the playcounts in iTunes be as accurate as possible. Or is there any way to go in reverse from Last.FM to iTunes? I already tried iTunes Store File Validator, which has a Reverse Scrobble function, but it didn't work and I found a Perl script that claimed to do it, but the download link was broken.

Widget Locker. Really nice program, but it made my phone hang a bit when coming out of apps. YMMV.

Gotta be a time zone or daylights savings thing. I'm not sure where you would check that, though.

Few problems

1. Contacts has gone bonkers, have upwards of 6 duplicates for each contact, and it seems to be growing!

2. ..... I actually forget, ill worry about it later, first problem is getting baaad now.

Go to contacts, press menu button, display options, only show where you keep your numbers.

Also go into settings, accounts & sync, make sure you are not syncing with all your social networks.

Thanks! That wasn't quite how I fixed my problem, when I went to the display contacts options, I saw that I had facebook twice (I also had it twice in sync) took out one of them and all is well.

Edit: I remembered what 2. was.

Anyway to change the 'swipe to unlock' screen to something completely different? I know about the grid unlock screen, not fond of that either :(.
 
Anyone had an issue where newly installed apps don't appear in the list?

I installed aCar and Opera and unless you reboot the phone, they don't appear.

I have Launcher Pro installed.
