Thanks for the heads up. Unfortunately I don't know what that means and what is considered bannable :(

Oh well, I don't think I've ever done anything wrong anyways. And this thread is fairly calm, mostly app recommendations anyway.
my spreadsheet says otherwise.... (lucky for you it's private)

I'm so glad you got over your preference for megathreads, looks like you created quite the entertaining minithread there.

My apologies to those who didn't want this to happen, but I hope most people would agree that the state of affairs was really getting out of hand.

So how do I installed Music Mod on a 2.1 phone? The version on the Market Place is 2.2 only.

Android confuses me so much. :(

Damn, seems Android can't play back .au audio files. I'm trying out this voip voicemail system that can email you recorded messages but it loses some of the appeal if I can't listen to them. Are there any good, lightweight audio players that can play back that format?

Are there caller ID apps that use wifi? If there are, what's the best one? My plan is getting a little too expensive and I wanna find ways around these things. Canadian plans FTL.

Oh thanks to all who mentioned Music Mod.
I have always gone back to the stock music app after trying other things (still desperately want EQ in it though) but Music Mod just takes that app and improves it. I especially like the improved widgets and fullscreen now playing screen.

We can agree to disagree about whether custom UIs are an issue or how they should be handled. I think that much like Microsoft's approach with Windows 7 manufacturers should develop custom home launchers and apps that will only run on their products but are still just apps. Just my opinion, everyone has good ideas and interesting outlooks on this topic. We'll see what happens with Gingerbread.

I'm the same :lol I always try every music player I can get my hands on and ALWAYS go back to stock. The biggest issues I have with stock are simply (1)hitting back often takes you to the same screen you're on and not a set architecture, I forget to hit menu->my library and (2)different artists on an album make the album reappear a million times in album view. No good.

Other than that the look doesn't bother me too much and Music Mod adds gestures which is something I love about Dolphin Browser HD and Gesture Search. Music Mod should become incorporated into Stock, it makes so much sense.

Has anyone tried Pulse News Reader? Appbrain It looks like a nice visual reader but it only allows 20 feeds? That's odd.

Google Mobile Event August 12th, What Could they Be Announcing?

http://phandroid.com/2010/08/10/google-mobile-event-august-12th-what-could-they-be-announcing/

Invites are being sent out for a Google Mobile event to take place this Thursday, August 12th. They will be “unveiling a couple of cool new mobile features,” but little is known beyond that. So what could be so exciting that it warrants a press conference? I’m honestly at a loss, though we could be seeing some more of the functions showcased at Google I/O that didn’t quite make the initial Froyo cut. Your guess is as good as mine.

What could Google possible be announcing?

This might be Android related...let's hope.

Maybe a sneak peek at Gingerbread?

Take your pick: Gingerbread, Google Music, Android Market online launch, or some weird new app like Google Goggles.

Why is it that I cannot download or view some apps in the market place? I was attempting to download Museek through AppBrain, but it gave me an "application cannot be found" error.

Calwidget is quite nice, it syncs with google calender and you can make it transparent. Not scrollable tho.

Thanks for the recommendation. I checked it out, but was looking for a grid calendar (not a fan of the stock one). I ended up biting on LauncherPro Plus-- I love the app anyway, so it was painless to throw a few dollars the dev's way. Anyway, really liking the LP calendar widget-- very clean and simple :D

It looks like you need root access to install the non-froyo version.

If you have Froyo (2.2), you can install from the Market.

If rebooting doesn't work try installing it from zip with clockwork. That's how I had to do it.
I open up rom manager and select the zip file to install it but my phone doesn't go into recovery mode.I see that ! icon but it quickly shuts down and goes straight to the ANDROID screen.I even tried manually going into recovery mode but no luck :(

Go to the market and download Quick Boot. It will allow you get into recovery mode much more easily. Once you're in recovery just select select the install zip from sdcard option.

so i got quickboot and clock 'recovery mode' but it is stuck at the ! icon with the phone screen. It just sits there until you hit the power button.I even tried holding camera+volume up but nothing happens.GAHHHH

I'm going to be getting a droid at the beginning of next month and I can't decide whether I want the Droid X or the Droid 2. Do they both have close to the same specs? Is the Droid X going to get Android 2.2?

yes they are pretty much the same spec wise.Droid has an 8mp camera vs the 5mp from droid 2 and has a bigger screen.
I personally will get the droid 2 once its milestone version comes out.BUT the droid PRO is something to watch out for.

Hmm. Which file did you download from the Music Mod site? Because if I remember correctly there is just the apk file that you can push via adb and the zip for recovery mode. If you do have the zip make sure it's in the root directory of your sd card still unzipped.

well the problem i have now is that i cannot go into recovery mode at all.

When you first tried installing it the first time did just transfer the apk over?

If you did, what I would suggest now is to delete the music mod files from your sd card and start over fresh using the zip method.

Also, if you can could you provide some pics of the error screen you are seeing? It's hard for me to visualize what's going wrong here.

Droid-Life reports that the 2.2 Droid update is back on. For me the manual 2.2 update created this laggy re-draw and delay in the launcher whenever I left apps so I had no choice but to use Launcher Pro (downhill since widgets+gestures imo).

I re-upgraded with the direct from Google link on Droid-Life, installing 2.2 over 2.2 and the problem seems to be gone. So if anyone else is experiencing that, try reinstalling 2.2, and from the direct Google link if you used the other. Maybe it makes no difference but that's exactly what I did and it's fixed.

This may be a stupid question but I honestly tried and can't figure it out. Car Home for 2.2 has 3 empty buttons; how can I assign apps to those buttons? I tried long press and I've tried menu->settings. What am I missing?

nah i can use it normalu that happens hwen i go into recoveyr mode. just doesnt go into recovery.

Then maybe your recovery is missing or corrupted. I would just put a new recovery on there. To do that, you'll need adb (which you can get from the Android SDK) and you'll have to manually push the recovery you want onto the device. I can dig up posts on xda describing it if you want, but they shouldn't be too hard to find.

I got that screen once when trying to install a custom rom onto the gf's Hero. Turns out that I had followed the root guide every step of the way, but forgot one very important point: to install the recovery mode onto the phone....

As suggested, make sure you've got some sort of recovery boot loaded onto the device. Check XDA or Android Forums for more info.

I don't think you're missing anything. I've tried everything I can think of there too. They just seem to be unassigned, just keeping the overall grid layout because they had some overflow from the first page of icons.

So, I've been trying to fiddle around with GBCoid, and I can't seem to get it set up the way I'd like. Is there any way to get it like this? Or another Emulator that could do something similar?
