I don't know if it's the right place to ask, but what's so good about the Cynogen Mod? I have a Nexus One.
I personally find Enom's ROM much better if you're on a Nexus One. I've always had trouble with CMs mods. I find Enom's much more stable and the way you can add and remove everything from his modified spare parts I find much better.

Because I like Sense right now I'm currently switching between EvilD's Desire port and Enom's.

Started on the old tinkering bandwagon :D

Dude!! With an AMOLED screen your setup will probably not consume much battery life...so awesome! :lol

Has anyone made an app like SwitchPro Widget that also allows you to chuck some application shortcuts onto the bar? I'd love just the one transparent bar across my homescreen with wifi/apn/ and a couple of app shortcuts on it.

Can you link to your launcher pro text icons?

are there any subtle battery/clock widgets BESIDES tajm and battstat?

also, there's no way to customize your status bar right? i know you can remove it altogether

You can customize the status bar and it's icons, but in order to do that you need ROOT and Metamorph (from the market).

My Mrs has went back to work at a mobile phone shop. They are pushing Android and she has no clue, neither have I (we both have iPhones).

They have gave her a new Android phone to take home, check out and use to help her sell to customers.

GAF can you help? with a nice summary of how to's, must have apps (pref free as this is a temp phone) etc. for us to follow and mess around with tonight so she can be awesome at Android at work tomorrow.
Fellas???

Gona fire up this HTC Desire in an hour.

If not any sites that will help.

Is the "new" gmail the version that came with the leaked 2.2 final Moto Droid rom?

I think he means this:

CyanogenMod Only:

We’re not sure when or how Google will deploy the new version of GAPPS – and I’m not entirely sure on what else is new in the latest version of GMail (or if any other GAPPS – like Google Talk or YouTube – have any new features) – but I hope they get everyone upgraded soon because these are features that’ll make life easier for everyone. Have you tried out the new GAPPS on CyanogenMod’s latest? If you haven’t, give this download link a try and flash it on top of your current or new installation of the latest CM6.

Maybe and update is coming soon.

I think starting with Froyo GMail is not part of the core OS, so it could be updated through the market or through an apk file.

But I have never seen a update to it through the market yet.

There's a 1x1 widget I use called Battery Watcher. It's nice and simple and doesn't take up a lot of real estate. Here is an image I found since I haven't taken the time to learn how to screen shot my phone.

I don't have to hunt for the reply button which was a pain in the ass.

OK guys, so I went through tonight and re-rooted and NAND unlocked my previously unrevoked EVO and flashed the rooted stock HTC 2.2 ROM (probably will do cyanogen later). In any case, I want to put RA Recovery on the phone, since the rooting and unlocking process took off clockworkmod apparently and replaced it with the default recovery.

What's the best way to install RA Recovery? I'm guessing my ROM doesn't have flash_image in it, so I'd assume using fastboot would be best, but does that's over USB right, is there a client for fastboot I run on the PC to do that?

SwitchPro Widget, it looks like that because it is themed (link above)

How can I get Smooth Calendar to look like the one in this image:
http://www.dropbox.com/gallery/9451596/1/Android%20Stuff/Android%20Screenshots/?h=1c63c1#gallery:19

I found a mod on XDA but that one doesn't work on Froyo.

This clear Astrid mod would also be welcome:

Those mods are in under his theme: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=745854

However, the theme is for the HTC Desire. It worked on my HTC Evo, though.

Also, that calendar widget is the LauncherPro Agenda/Cal Widget, not PureCalendar. It is also under his theme.

Ah great thanks.
And i don't need to be rooted for these either?

You don't need to be rooted for the LauncherPro Calendar

But that theme needs to be flashed, the modded apk's might be able to just be installed manually (enable sideloading apps if you haven't) but if they have to be flashed (check the thread) then you have to be rooted.

Looking at all of these slick and varied themes and skins, I just can't get how iOS users can say that Android is clunky or unrefined.
Dude what? Half this shit is iphone themes and text themes with overly large clock widgets that take up half your screen. o.O

How anyone can find this even remotely attractive or usable is beyond me.
Android is great and I love it, but refined is about the least accurate description for it.

Dude, how's battery life? I'm on FroydVillian, it's pretty nifty and all that but my battery is really taking the hit. Still gonna give it a few more days cause you know, it's hard to gauge the battery life if you're messing with it installing shit and looking for new features every 2 seconds.

RJNavarrete, what's that calendar agenda on the third screen? (also, they're overworking you)
Heh, it's ok. I get a nice paycheck to blow on hookers and drugs. The widget is Pure Calendar Widget, which, IMO, is the best on the market. It supports so many calendars/task programs.

He's got a point, but that's the beauty of an open OS. You can customize all you want. Personally, i'd never use any of those time and battery widgets. My setup is clunky and i like it that way.

Menelaus said:
nah, he's right.
Everything is optional?

If a user finds those designs usable for them, why should they be prevented from applying that to their phone? Stock Android experience doesn't have these type of "unusable" features that you guys are pointing out by and large. The designs you do not agree with are not a true or valid indictment of Android OS at all.

Android is as refined as the taste of user that customizes it. Some people go overboard with the widgets sometimes. Having two time widgets is probably a bit much but if thats how he likes it, he's more than welcome to do it.

EDIT:

I'd like to think mine is pretty good and not clunky at all. Each screen has a category and everything is pretty congruent.
