I couldn't figure out how to uninstall the existing one, no.
Go to titanium backup. (dl it if you don't have it

)

Go to Backup/Restore

Click the search button and search for youtube

Click on youtube and click "Un-install!"

Restart (IMPORTANT!)

???

Profit.

I was sure WinAmp would bring us gapless playback. Alas, no.

It is however, an excellent, excellent app. I would go as far as to say that it's probably one of the best designed and executed apps on Android so far. And everything from the start, with widget, lock screen controls, playlist shortcuts on homescreens, wifi sync, etc. I love it.

Give me true gapless playback (no crossfading crap, read the metatags) and I'll finally start considering Android as an mp3 player. That, and play by folder and it'll be perfect.

From forums:

1. install winamp on pc
2. connect to wireless (PC)
3. Connect to wireless (phone)
4. wait for both to have ip addresses and connect (i.e. can use internet on both)
5. open winamp pc
6. open winamp phone
7. on phone main screen (the one with six buttons for artists, albums, songs etc...) press menu, press settings, enable wireless sync
8. on winamp computer click on devices
9. right click on devices and select locate devices (or whatever can't remember exactly
10. a message pops up on the phone (only the first time) that says do you want to accept the connection, hit YES!

Gapless playback is that important? Why?

From Wikipedia:

This may be a source of annoyance to listeners of music where tracks segue into each other, such as some classical music (opera in particular), progressive rock, electronic music, and live recordings with audience noise between tracks.

Wow. We live in a fuckawesome world when a second of silence between songs is something that pisses people off.

I had a roommate who used to overlap all of his music so that they would sort of play into each other and gradually change from one song to the next. That was pretty cool.

Curious why everyone loves Winamp so much? (I'm genuinely curious as maybe I'm missing out on some features or something?)

It doesn't have Genre sorting, which is the #1 way I look through music, thus making it pretty useless to me. Unless I missed how to do this?

Maybe it's the sync option?

Personally I like crossfade so much it's the reason I use Lithium exclusively now. It may not be important to some people but I mainly listen to my music with shuffle on through a genre, a lot of times there's a several second gap between songs and yes, it lessens my experience with music enough that it is irritating.

well you know i basically grew u with winamp. But if winamp manages to make their widget skinable they easily won the game and i never knew people really used the xfade feature. I am a DJ my self and i cant stand if two songs which does not fit to eachother at all fade into each other.

So update on my download problem. Think it has something to do with Beautiful Widgets. It wont download and you cant cancel the download, any attempt to do so force closes the entire marketplace. Tried uninstalling it, and now I cant reinstall because the apps download bar is still stuck.

I actually don't use any music widgets so they are pretty useless to me, lockscreen controls are more important so I'm glad winamp has that.

And I agree it is a little weird two completely different songs merging together, but since I generally shuffle through genres it usually works really well for crossfade.

I don't understand why there is so much winamp love....

I use widget locker with pure music widget and the samsung stock player, and like it far better than my few minutes with winamp. Of course no wireless sync, but on the phone side much nice imo.

Here what my combo gives you: fully skinnable widgets with sizes from 1X1 to full screen. the lock screen isn't completely taken over by just one thing (winamp widget), I have a sized 2X4 which still allows for a clock and separate 4X1 for pandora.

Different sized widgets allow for a smaller homescreen music widget as well...again with skinning so it looks just like I want.

In fact I also like musicmod better than winamp. Now I await the slam where people can explain what makes winamp so great (other than wifi sync)

Yes, it's called mixing. It's what DJs do.

And with all live mixes and most albums I own, all tracks are all seamless. A lot of thought goes into the mixing itself, matching the keys, BPM, style, as well as overall progression of the whole album. Having a split second between doesn't sound like much (geddit?) but it ruins the flow of the whole album and is rather irritating and is the reason I always play original CDs in my car instead of using the mp3 playback capabilities. And yes, such a detail means I've never heard any music from my phone since all my music like that and I refuse to compromise. It's the equivalent of completely removing the bass or all sound coming form the one headphone for me.

Just installed Winamp but its not detecting any music currently on my phone. Does winamp have a special folder for this and I just need to copy everything over?

One app. Has a widget, a lockscreen player and wifi sync. Plays music pretty recently too.

I use music mod myself

Google needs to fix GMail on the web and on Android. I have a group of 8 or so friends who ALL use GMail and the way your messages get all fucked up with old replies is so annoying. Integrate some Wave into GMail please.

Android noobie here and I haven't been able to find anything like this on the app store, so I hope GAF will know: is there any app out there (or setting) that will allow me to lock down my contacts so that when other third party apps ask for access to them, that I'll at least be notified that they're doing so? Right now the only notification seems to be during app. installation. I'd really love something that would pop up when I'm using, say the Yelp Android app, telling me that hey Yelp is accessing your contacts right now. (It would be even better if I could selectively block apps from doing that, but I know that's probably asking for a miracle. )

Everything I've found so far seems to be geared toward people cheating on their significant others. (pretty big market, going by the no. of apps available :lol)

One thing I like about new Winamp: has media controls always on at the bottom of the screen. Once it gets folder filtering, I'll start looking into using my EVO as a main mp3 player.

hmmm, really?

I've used iTunes for like 10 years now and just switched to a Droid X. I've been trying different methods, DoubleTwist right now, but everythign seems to have some problem (DoubleTwist is perfect except it ignores my MP3 tag info for track order... lame).

I'll have to check iSyncer out later. It's on the market?

Yup. There's actually 2 different apps, ISyncr and ISyncr Wi-Fi. They each cost a couple dollars, buy they've worked great for me. It even syncs your play counts with iTunes.

Are there any apps available that can turn my phone into a remote for my PS3?

Google called 2.2, 2.1, and 1.6 "minor platform releases"

How would 2.3 be a major platform release?

Oh well, dreams of Honeycomb being the gamechanger I guess.

Download problem fixed. Had to force close and clear data on the marketplace and download app. Everything came back fine and was able to download everything normaly.

Thanks zoku, got it figured out.
NP.

And I need gapless playback when I listen to Mahler's Sympthony No 8 ^^ It has two "parts" which, on CD are usually both split up into 8 or so parts.

Each part is supposed to be continuous, (I mean, it's only broken up on CDs). It's pretty weird to hear separations at random times...

Alright so.. I rooted my phone and am using cyanogen mod 6 (htc evo), I have it set up largely how I want, but I have one question about it.. is there a way to expand the dock thing at the bottom? It only has 3 spots but i'd like 5.

Also, what are some good widget apps to replace the now gone htc ones? Photo frames, people widgets, calendar widgets, etc, I did like those i'll admit :(

So far I love cyanogen though, and my extended battery. How exactly does rooting void the warranty, even if you go back to a stock rom?

LauncherPro is the answer to both of those. $2 for great HTC replacement widgets.

Why? It's not open source?

I figured adw was built into it but it seems you can swap it for LP so I bought that anyways.

So I have it all setup with launcher pro now, but I have 2 questions.. Why do the images on the contact scrollable widget look like shit, and why does the bookmark widget not have images of the sites?

I am pretty sure you have to go to the site once (after downloading launcher pro) for the image to be posted on the bookmarks widget.

And there is a fix for the contact widget... but I don't know where the link is atm.

Actually, I thunk for the Bookmarks widget, you have to for into Preferences > LP Widget Settings > Bookmarks Widget > Get Missing Thumbnails.

Any idea on the fix for contact pictures looking like shit though, or is that just a google problem?

Also, is there a free app to take screenshots of your homescreens?

Edit: Found one.

Alright, so after rooting, tweaking, putting in launcher pro rather than ADW launcher, here is my 'final' setup for the moment, a lot of stuff there I won't use but just put there to fill it, ocd I guess :p

I like it, I themed the rotating colors in the back for halloween, the fact I can have all of that and still run programs faster than a brand new out of box version is pretty staggering, root forever.

PS: Angry birds runs amazingly well with the cpu overclocked, yet the phone runs smooth and cool WITH better battery life, lol.

Anything cool I might be missing?

Does it really matter if Gingerbread is 2.3 or 3.0?

The fact that Google set a gingerbread statue up on the lawn means it's a big update (and coming soon!).

And when Google silently releases an update like they did with the YouTube app last week, I can't complain. That app is now so good. It's the type of thing Apple would spend 20 minutes on when revealing a new iOS.

Tasker. Soooo worth the ~$6. It basically gives you the power to nearly fully automate your phone. You can do almost anything with it and there is a Wiki with lots of user-submitted profiles to get you started.

I have only had it for a few days (was using Setting Profiles before) but I already have like 15 profiles setup. I have one to switch to wifi and setup call forwarding to my home phone when I get home since my cell signal sucks at home. Then it turns off forwarding when I leave.

Another profile I have sends auto-reply SMS when I have my phone in silent to inform the sender. It also says, "text "IMPORTANT" to override silent mode." Then if they do that, silent mode stays on, but I still get a notification for that text with a special vibrate pattern. :D

That sounds pretty damn awesome! Just what I needed, thanks :D

Link is gone?

Engadget just gave the iPhone version a good review and I wanted to check this out.

Hmm looks like it is gone. It's not showing up when I look for it on the google app store either.
