You could just create folders. Android music and video players will find them on their own.

well that's great. i feel like i'm trying to make using this thing harder for myself than it really is :D

Listen to this man. Come CES (Jan 5th.) all the new next-gen Android phones will be announced and hopefully will have Gingerbread on them. Right now, if you get anything other than an older Nexus One, G2 or Nexus S, you run the risk of not getting Gingerbread anytime soon. Just wait another week and then judge the phones shown off then.

The thing is that no matter what is being announced, it will take a year or so for the new models to make it to Mexico (forgot to mention that) and as far as I know the Galaxy S just arrived here like two months ago so it's fairly new. I might as well buy it right now, get used to Android and if anything better is announced at CES I could upgrade next year.

Road trip? GAFFER buying you one and shipping it? We'll figure it out! :D

Nexus S then? Fuck dude, someone on GAF will hook it up if you pay for the phone and shipping.

What do you guys think? Should I jump in with the Mecha / Incredible HD / Thunderbolt or wait for a dual-core phone?
We are on LOCKDOWN until CES. If you can wait, wait.

Seriously... if someone on GAF somehow buys a phone between now and next week and comes in here asking if that was wise will get a beat down! :lol

So, my family switched to Verizon a few days ago and I got a Droid Incredible. I like it okay, but I'm a little underwhelmed and I think I should've got the Samsung Fascinate instead. The hardware seems so much better. Do you guys think I should wait a little to see if Verizon announces some new phones? I mean if they announced new phones at CES or something would they even be released in January?
I think I have 30 days to exchange my phone.

I'm tempted to just pick up a random phone on ebay tbh :lol not sure if CES will change much since I don't want to spend more than £200.

Stay away from Samsung. God I hate the waiting game for Froyo. I thought they would change since the galaxy s series of phones are a huge hit but yep. Froyo has been coming soon for at least 2 months now. And don't get me started on the GPS problems that were supposed to be fixed by software tweaks 20 different times. Again, STAY AWAY FROM SAMSUNG.

You don't like the Droid X?

Is the Fascinate really that bad? :( The hardware is so sexy! I feel like if I'm going to stick with an Android phone for a ~2 year I'd probably end up rooting it anyway.

Droid X is way too massive for me. 4" is the maximum size a smartphone should be unless you have huge hands or something. I think 3.5-7" is the perfect size for one-handed operation.

I had an iPod Touch before getting the Droid X and was worried it would be too big, now I could never go back. The phone is big, but when you are watching videos, using the GPS, or just browsing the web it is awesome.

Yeah but how easy is it to use with one hand?

Decent. I use swype for typing and I can one hand it if needed, although two will always be best. But with any non-hardware keyboard phone two hands will be best.

I'm not saying that the Fascinate itself is a bad phone spec wise. Its a great phone and one of the best. Hell Google picked the Galaxy S line and slapped a NFC chip in it to make the Nexus S.

But something you have to think beyond just specs with a smartphone. Samsung has been extremely sloppy with their support of the Galaxy S line. HTC and Motorola's Droids have far better support with updates and whatnot.

I think the Droid Incredible is a nice phone and whatever disappointment you have will not be fulfilled with the Fascinate. This is coming from a Samsung Captivate owner. I like my phone, but if another high-end Android phone comes to AT&T I am jumping ship.

This, even down to the part about coming from an iPod Touch. I have kinda small hands and haven't really had trouble with it. Every once in awhile it gets a little awkward, but maps and web-browsing on the screen more than make up for it.

dude V's dumping all their old android phones for dirt or free because the new android phones are coming in less than a month. I wouldn't even sign a contract until the new stuff is announced.

HTC Thunderbolt!

Whats known so far...

4G LTE Ready
4.3inch screen
8mb pixel rear camera
Dual LED/Front Facing camera
HTC Sense 2.3

Dont know...

Price?
Launch Date?
Shipping with 2.2 or 2.3?
Dual processor?
Front facing camera resolution?

Cant wait for CES. Jan 6th cant get here fast enough!

HTC's phones have pretty crappy battery life and I hate the peg in the back but I'm cautiously optimistic. My Moto Droid broke and I'm in dire need of a phone but I'm holding out till after CES to see what my options are. I gotta say tho, so far I'm liking the droid X over all the others.

DAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :lol

Okay... so get insurance through Verizon for your phone in case anything less than an act of God destroys your phone because Son.... You best be swapping that phone for something else after CES!!!

I pray that there will be a high end HTC phone announced for AT&T at CES. Olympus looks nice, but all of this bad talk about Motoblur has me worried.

If I could just get the same size as an evo, but 1.5 times the battery life, I would be excited. In general, that is a problem among most high-end smart phones.

NINJABLUR as seen on Droid X, Droid 2/Global, and Droid Pro isn't bad at all. I actually like the Facebook integration built into the Droid X dialer, it's pretty amusing seeing somebody's last Facebook status when I call them and then I say something to refer to it and they are like lolwut? :lol

I hope in 2011 Google gets off their asses and starts taking Android gaming seriously. iOS is lightyears ahead of Android when it comes to game, Carmack has given iOS users Rage and Epic has given them Infinity Blade. Both games have graphics which easily surpass PSP quality and might end up giving 3DS graphics a run for their money (minus the 3D, obviously! :lol) depending on what's really inside.

I hope we get some >4" phones. Maybe I don't want a giant screen. Also, I hope HTC shows off something with a chin. Hero/Legend <3

Jacobi said:
it wouldn't be able to run 1080p mkvs, would it?

I dont see why not. My crappy chinese android tablet can play 1080p MKVs with up to 30mbits. I personaly tried 22mbit one, and it worked fine.

seriously, Gaf told me to wait since mid december and its gonna be worth it. Dual core and 1080p are just around the corner.

+1 i love my legend and would love a new version of it even though i just got official froyo on it...

Perfectly fine. Nothing beats the X at the moment IMO. The only time the screen will feel too big is when you take it out of the box, a week later and you won't even notice and by then you will wonder how you lived without it.

Don't misunderstand though, its 4.3 is probably the max screen size I could handle on a phone but it's thin factor and lightweight mixed with its awesome durability and build quality make it a winner. If it is one thing Moto does right, it's build quality. Out of the box, install Launcher Pro over top the horrible Blur UI and you will have an awesome phone/pocket Android tablet.

Any rumors churning about some high res screens showing up soon on phones/tablets? 1280x720 and similar? I'm hoping I get some surprises like this while at CES next week.

It's almost guaranteed that the Thunderbolt will have shit battery life. Look to the EVO and Desire HD as examples

Acer has a 4.8' device with a 1024 x 480 display coming in April.

Above all, I'm praying more manufactures embrace the pentaband standard, and lost the exclusivity bullshit: http://www.slashgear.com/2011-the-year-of-pentaband-29121741/

Yes, please. I dream of a future about where I choose the phone I want without having to worry what carrier I am on.

I don't see this happening though, because half of Americans are on a whole different technology then the other. With Verizon moving to LTE is great, I doubt they will drop the CDMA network they spent tons on anytime soon.

I guess this is true if you don't want to root and install custom roms. I have a Captivate and have been on 2.2 for months. I am using a cognition rom, and the phone is super fast, gps works flawlessly - in fact the best gps I have ever used. Not only locks quickly but tracks great for nav. There are also lagfixes built right into the roms - and using ODIN flashes is a cakewalk.

In addition, Samsung has been releasing source code, released ODIN to make for easy flashes, haven't done any of the anti root/hack stuff other manuf have done.

If you are the type to only get OTA updates, never hack your phone, by all means I agree stay away from Galaxy S phones in the US (don't know why but overseas updates have been faster).

Is there Cyanogen support for the Galaxy S phones yet? Last I checked there wasn't anything for the Epic 4g.

Cyanogen 6.1 beta3 work almost flawlessly on most U.S Galaxy S phones (although i am unsure of the epic 4g) but they have abandoned it and are now focusing on creating a 2.3 aosp for the Galaxy S series, the progress so far has been fast.

I tried out Axura for a month and I loved it. The improvements were great and the phone felt like the phone it was supposed to be. Although GPS locked on faster it still jumped around during navigation for me. Every time I was on the highway it would have me exiting the highway at every offramp even though I was still on the highway.

One day I decided to try out Assonance and it killed my battery. I think it was the whole OC stuff. Ever since my new battery came in I have been weary of trying another rom. So I decided to just wait it out for the OTA update.

And I blame US carriers as well as Samsung for the lack of the updates. But if HTC can get it out in 6 weeks, what is holding up Samsung?

Do you mean <4''? I agree, I want a 3.7 or 4 max as well. 4.3 is huge and impossible to pocket I think.

Not gonna come in here and say you are wrong, and maybe you are a little emo kid and wear skin tight jeans, but I never really notice my Droid X in my pocket. It's so thin and sleek.

You say you'd use a 4" phone max. I highly doubt you could tell the difference between a 4" phone in your pocket and a 4.3" phone in your pocket.

I just use a cheap ass 1800 mAh battery I got off ebay in my Incredible. It looks bootleg as hell, but is the same size as the stock battery, and actually work quite well to meet my demands.

But I don't think batteries will ever really keep up with the spec race on devices.

Amazingly, the 5' Streak can fit in pants pockets. But yeah, I agree, 4.3' is probably the sweet spot. 3.5' - 3.7' is waaay to small.

4" is the sweet spot for me. 4.3" is too big for my tastes. I may change my mind when I own a 4" phone, though :D

The 3.7" Nexus One suits me fine but a touch more screen would be perfect.
