We already know that Nintendo's debt-simulator Animal Crossing is getting a version for the 3DS sometime this summer. We also know that the 3DS will soon be capable of handling DLC. Put the two together and what do you get? The announcement Nintendo made today. Also, more reasons to fall into debt with Tom Nook.

Yes, Animal Crossing 3DS will receive additional content after the game is released this summer. No details have been given about pricing or nature of the content, but judging from Reggie's comments about the whole nature of DLC it's safe to assume that we'll see good stuff for fair prices. I hope.

Welcome to the current generation of gaming, Nintendo. Let's hope 3rd party developers won't make you regret this step.

Animal Crossing Wii received loads of DLC as well post-launch - is there any indication that Nintendo will be selling AC3DS DLC, or will it be freebies again?

Welp, now that it's bumped:

I'm buying a 3DS and this for my girlfriend on release date. Hopefully it comes out around...... say June 22nd (her birthday) lol :)

If we both have a copy can we both play at the same time, in the same village?

The problem with Animal Crossing is that the game, at the core, still is more or less the same that came out on N64. Graphics is still only slightly updated and activities added more or less from iteration to iteration. The only "big" step I remember is that the DS version was the first with Online, which game a boost of interest.

But after that.......everything looks extremely copy-paste to me.

Oh man, I love Animal Crossing and a summer release is perfect! All the other games have always been released in the fall or winter :( (in Europe at least).

This time they need to really get things going with Animal Crossing.

I like the wii version, but it screams "missed oportunities" every single day

You sound so happy about it! Almost like you knew that otherwise GF would definitely get to be the mayor and you had to settle for a peasant role.

LOL you caught me.

She can play Animal Crossing for hours at a time where I'm more of a casual player (when it comes to life-simulation games). She'll have her house completely paid off and be promoted to mayor before I even get done with my first loan/upgrade.

One thing. Gamememo cites a Nikkei article which date is...30/12/2011. And so, why we know about it now?

Mmmmh... I don't know, maybe Gamememo confused some things, or else...someone who can translate?

I feel the same way. I poured my life into the Gamecube version. I decided to pick up the DS version and realized I was essentially playing the same game over again. I really hoped after that version, that they would revamp the series. But it seems like Nintendo is content with keeping the formula almost exactly the same with every iteration. N64, GCN, DS, WII, 3DS versions all seem way too similar to me.

Part of the reason the GameCube version was so fun is because you could collect NES games.

And then Nintendo realized they could sell them for $3.99 a piece and make more money.

stupid current-generation gaming :(

DLC for Animal Crossing would definitely be welcome, as long as it's free, and like in presents and stuff like they've been kinda doing with the Wii version.

That was really really sad.

They should add some mini games, anything free, to this new version.

True. At least it will be cool if you can directly start your 3DS VC games trought your AC3DS house!

Summer release make me hyped for... whatever other game will be shown at E3 as the christmas 2012 killer-app. I always trought AC3DS will be this game, but now, AAA first-party titles from the first 3DS reveal will be finally cleared and released. 2nd wave of 3DS titles is coming in S2!

I loved the Gamecube version and picked up WW when it came out, which I got bored with pretty fast. I skipped CF so I'm hoping this will be able to hold my interest a bit longer.

A lot of the new features seem really cool and are welcome in my eyes but I'm not sure how much more interesting they will make the game, and if they will actually increase the longevity of it. I'm definitely going to pick it up though.
