this one does have some edginess to it.

basic story is set in some fantasy land.

demon army invading, yada yada. the hero, being the strongest swordsman in the land, was chosen to lead the human army into battle and fight their way into the demon realm. him and the remaining 10 of his allies was face with overwhelming odds and 7 of them decided to abandon the quest to fight the demon lord. the remaing 4 successed but on their way back they got ambushed by the 7 who had abandoned them. the 4 of them died in the hands of those 7 and those 7 went on to became the heros of the human world. our hero swordsman however, somehow came back to live, but now in a younger elf like body, had to regain his strength and set out on a quest to kill the heros of the human world now.

like I said, the manga has plenty of fan service. even plenty of actual sex scenes (not sure if the anime would cover those thou). the fights were decent and the story has a strong start. but the ending kinda fell apart. hopefully the anime would be able to fix some of that.


edit: also, didn't Ruri Dragon got suspended because the artist went into hospital like 5 chapters after serialization or something? did it start back up again?

You mean women are the primary demographic (shojo or josei), or just written by a woman in general?

Plenty of women have written Shonen/seinen (primary male demographic). Fullmetal Alchemist, Demon Slayer, Inuyasha, D. Gray-man, a bunch of series by CLAMP (who are a group of women), Blue Exorcist, Dorohedoro, A Silent Voice, To Your Eternity, etc.

In terms of shojo/josei, I just finished reading all of NANA. It is an incomplete story due to the mangaka becoming ill (she has gotten somewhat better in the years since, but time will tell if she’s physically able to return and finish it), but still fantastic. It follows two women, both named Nana, who move to Tokyo, one searching for love and proving she can live on her own, and the other looking to form her own image in the world of rock music. They meet and a strong friendship starts. But boy, there is a lot of sad moments, and the series does “end” on a very sad note, but I do feel the mangaka was hinting the series would end on a generally positive angle as eventually the story shows glimpses of the future of the characters and while some things are not great in said future, there’s still a hopeful angle they can push through to a better tomorrow.

So yeah, an incomplete manga, but it was excellent. I’ve heard the anime only adapts roughly half or so of the manga, so be warned if you go the anime route as the manga will provide far more story.

Complete opposite problem for me, aside from 2020 (which had few new shows for obvious reasons), the years 2018, 2019, and especially 2021-2023 have had WAY too many new interesting shows that the plan-to-watch backlog is massive. There’s TOO MUCH that I want to watch.

It's pretty edgy, yeah.
I still found it enjoyable enough but I dropped it when they ruined Glenn, who was the only truly interesting character and plot thread.

but I would always recommend you watch Card Captors, xxxHolic and Magic Knight Rayearth so you can get the most out of it first, they did a MCU before that was even a thing with these series.

Because you specifically stated Hunter and Jujutsu being being your preference Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, it might sound like such a "normie" suggestion but its the same genre as those two for sure and is a damn good quality adaptation.

as you went and looked at Bersek (I assume you watched the 2016 Beserk, which is sadly meme worth bad) so have some interest in more adult story lines I would recommend Black Lagoon.



I love it when I find someone who has never seen this, because its the show that made me realise that anime could be so much more.

A lot of people would still label it as isekai, especially considering Sword Art Online popularized the genre and it too doesn’t always have the characters trapped in whatever game they’re currently on.

I’m not saying I necessarily agree with labeling Frontier as isekai, but it’s just one of those loosey-goosey genre definitions at this point.

With so many shitty hollywood shows in the last years I turned my attention to Anime and have a lot to catch on.

The issue I find with Brotherhood is it's really good, but early in they skip alot of stuff that was fleshed out in the original anime.

If you didn't know the original followed the manga up until they caught up to what was written at the time, but rather than wait for the original author they just... made up shit.

The issue is that when they remade FMA with brotherhood, because they don't want to retread the same story that already been made they skipped a lot of the original stuff. Sometimes they turned multiple episodes into single episodes or just skipped it entirely. That means for people who have seen the original FMA series they can fill in the gaps, but brotherhood feels rushed early on because it well is... so that people can get to the new stuff that actually follows the manga.

Sadly for new watchers though it can feel like it's missing something early on.

isekai term have gone wild. Someone in my country said fantasy genre as "native isekai"

The problem Im having is with the protagonist, it maybe correlated to missing previous lore as you put it, but as I see it this series/anime dosent show him as some young inexperienced apprentice, but as a full fledged alchemist that most people in the region know, some kind of prodigy, but 20 ep in and all he does is basically get his ass kicked and his arm broken multiple times, he has no special/strong to my eyes abilities (outside been able to cast easily wihout a circle) and have to be saved most of the time and to complete he dosent know shit about nothing and is always in "aww" and lost with everything that is happening around him ....

Its basically a padawn/apprentice story without the teachers and the apprentice character.... so Im finding hard to like Edward at this point... because the anime is telling me one thing (he is awsome and famous) and showing me he is completely incompetent.

Is not bad and maybe all will come together ahead... but right now this is how I feel.
