Question. How can you tell framerate just by looking at a game? If I were watching someone play CoD on 360 (60 FPS) and BF3 on 360 (30 FPS) I don't think I would be able to tell that CoD was running 60 FPS. Playing the game is a different story but watching it I have to idea.

A 60fps game it's generally more responsive.

Still, the difference between two different games might be hard to see, but if a game goes from 30 to 60 you are definitely going to notice it.

I can see it.

To me, it's like watching a sports game, and watching a movie.

Movies are generally 24fps and sports are as high as possible 60hz. So if you ever feel a movie looks a bit weird, almost looks amateurish becuase it looks too smooth you can tell.

It's really easy once you've had the difference demonstrated.

EDIT:

Great thread

Yup. I could tell. Didn't see that thread before. 60 FPS for infamous would be nice they could pull it off.

Maybe is `s a bit early to say, and KZ ShadowFall is not done, but i cannot believe that SuckerPunch is beating GG at graphics. With a open world game!

As stunning as Infamous is, I still expect Shadow Fall's single player to reign supreme as far as graphics go.

If you're talking talking about linear versus open-world, I said this a few pages back:

I genuinely have to wonder here, what with RAM limitations being the main thing last generation, holding back open-world games graphics, will we even have that problem this generation?

I have a feeling, the issue this generation will be the cost of creating a world full of high detail assets.

And with that, there might be less difference this generation between linear games and open-world games.

If this is 60fps, I will shit my pants though.

No, I'm referring to the higher fidelity Guerilla is going to achieve in their 30 fps single player versus the 60 fps multiplayer. Faces will melt the next time GG shows off single player.

Oh.. Well Ignore me. :P

It didn't look superb in that forest segment, I am just glad it's more open in that regard.

Honestly, their artistry just shines on architecture and industrial design. All their organic environments have either been ridiculously fantasy or not brilliant looking.

I seriously hope you're joking...

Also, I doubt that it's running at 60FPS. You people are just fooling yourselves and will be disappointed when you get to play it.

i simultaneously agree with this, and also point out there are moments (with very little geometry on screen) in both inFamous 1 and 2 where it was 60fps.

The more likely scenario, is the framerate is yet again unlocked.

inFAMOUS has used unlocked framerate in the past and has had sections where the games ran at or near 60fps, so actually I have no doubt in my mind that inFAMOUS Second Son when shown off hit 60fps at some point or another. And it wasn't even limited to the low-action parts. In inFAMOUS 1 I specifically remember a section/mission where there was a shitton going on and it was running near 60fps, made me go woah, since most of the game was usually running at 30fps. Really made me question why the rest of the game was running near 30fps, if it could handle that section (that seemed to be doing a lot more things) at a higher framerate.

As for 60fps constant, locked. Yeah, I don't expect that at all. That'd be a miracle if they could pull of that level of graphical fidelity at that framerate for a launch window game.

This is correct for both Infamous games. It's to be expected.

A huge portion of the exta processing power - gained from targeting 30fps - will go toward rendering much bigger levels(and thus greater draw distances) than in the mp. I'm sure there'll be some improvements, but I don't think there will be a huge technical difference from the latest iteration. The biggest visual difference will likely be due to ART direction in other levels of the game, creating more jaw-dropping scenes.

I'm not all that sensitive to input lag. I can feel a difference between 30 and 60 but I find it subtle. I prefer the look of 60fps for games though since it makes it easier for me to judge depth in a 3D space and keeps the game looking sharp in motion.

First time we've heard about this game running at 60fps. No offense, but I'd have to see it to believe it. :P

Added a few more impressions that came to mind from my visit. They're hidden in there somewhere.

I was fortunate enough to tag along with the journo's who attended Sucker Punch's showing on Thursday. I was with a Playstation community group that was selected alongside the MOFILM Blogger competition that the official blog held recently. Figured I would throw my impressions into this thread.
I suppose this is proof: http://imgur.com/ytfYNku
Oh, and this too: http://imgur.com/Qso066L

- First and foremost, the guys and gals at Sucker Punch are some of the sweetest, most passionate people I have ever met. They were so excited to share info with us.
- We didn't get any hands-on. Everything we saw that was real-time was controlled entirely by Sucker Punch.
- Not sure if worth noting, but some devs were using early development kit versions of the PS4 controller while others had the finalized model.
- I asked about unique locations. One of my issues with the first and second inFAMOUS was that some buildings were copied and pasted over and over. Sounds like they're making Seattle much more diverse than New Marais and Empire City. Lots of real-world landmarks are being recreated - including a certain gas station with a large neon pink elephant. (I'm from Chicago so I wasn't familiar, but they insist that if you're a local, you'll recognize it).
- LOTS of small inFAMOUS and Sly Cooper easter eggs to be found in the world.
- The game is BEAUTIFUL.
- We had a hard time parting our eyes from the ground even! Light reflections and water are almost photo-realistic. Same goes for neon - it really needs to be seen to be believed.
- Draw distance is great. One dev brought the camera way up high and showed us a significant chunk of the world. Looked great, even from that vantage point.
- The HUD was blurred for one presentation - but the color of the HUD could be seen. I think it was orange - probably because smoke was being used.. This color likely changes when the player switches powers.
- DLC is not being considered quite yet. All efforts for the time being are on finishing the game.
- Nate Fox has no idea that he's an inFAMOUS community god.
- Troy Baker was the best-man at his in-game brothers wedding. And Fetch is actually that guys real-world wife.
- There appears to be a forest in the game. In hindsight, I should have asked how traversal works in wooded areas. In the city limits, you can get boosts off the top of cars and shoot through building vents. But what is there to do in the former environs? Perhaps we have a forest-esque power coming?
- I asked if Sucker Punch was transitioning into a two-team, two-game studio like Naughty Dog. They can't really say at this point.
- Destructability looks awesome. Some things stay destroyed such as security cameras, whereas some objects like scaffolds appear to regenerate eventually.
- Particle effects are obsessive compulsive! They showed us a slowed down animation with Deslin transforming into smoke and back. You can see tiny bits of his body and clothing break down and subsequently regroup.
- The comic cutscenes are making a return, but looking so much better thanks to three-dimensional characters and trippy splatter techniques (you saw this in the last cutscene where Fetch's powers are being taken).
- The touch pad is being used to free NPC's who have been locked in cages by the PMC group.
- Deslin needs to "take back the city from the invading military, piece by piece" - reminds me of taking over turf, San Andreas or Saints Row style.
- We saw what appeared to be a Dragonfire drone flying around. It was weaving around world objects and trees impressively.
- Some pedestrians appear to be injured, and roll around on the ground like past inFAMOUS titles. This of course suggests that you can heal them or absorb their life energy for your own.

Well, that is all for now! I'll return if anything else comes to mind from my visit. All in all, I walked away impressed (as did the REAL journalists who were there it seems - even Michael McWhertor from Polygon!). My personal sentiment is that Sucker Punch will be to the PS4 what Naughty Dog was to the PS3. They certainly seem to have risen to the occassion.

I'm quite happy for them! But I'm selfishly more happy for myself, as I get to play it in just a few short months! :)

Any questions? Ask away GAF!

Maybe the frame-rate will be unlocked and therefore hit 60fps in absolute best case scenarios but actually running at 60fps or even close to that the whole time? No way.

The panel starts on the spelunky stream at around 37 mins in, weather about 42 mins
