Spiritual successor is Flashback. Heart of Darkness has nothing in common with Another World (lore wise)
Chahi also didn't work on Flashback, so no.

This game is a must play for anyone that hasn't experienced it. It was such an eye-opening experience back then. It's still one of the finest examples of a cinematic game. May still be the best.
There is no missing component, Eric Chahi wasn't involved with HotA.But yeah, it would be a neat bonus.

The greatness of cross-buy and cross-save cannot be overstated. Will definitely be buying this.

Have you played Flashback ? It plays almost the same, looks almost the same, is also made by Delphine, the world looks almost the same and the story is very similar, plus it has the same ending screen![]()
According to this french interveiw he had moderate involvement in Heart of the the Alien. But yeah probabaly not a lot.
Interplay insisted in making the sequel in order to make the most of the CD-ROM medium's capabilities. After discussion, I agreed. Rather than making a chronological development related to the first story, I decided that redesigning the game from the alien point of view was excellent, and would make the player discover Another World with other eyes. I could already picture scenes where Lester would be in the background fighting guards, while the player would control the alien in the foreground and then join our first hero, help him, etc... The concept was good but, alas, neither the animations nor the game, entirely developed by Interplay, were up to the job. It was a flop.
That's the game I remember playing. Flashback was awesome. One of the first games I ever solo'd on the Genny. PEACE.Have you played Flashback ? Heart of the Alien, not Darkness. Heart of Darkness is a completely different game
It's available on Xbox 360 as part of the Ubisoft remake. Just select "1993 edition" at the main screen. It's not Amiga-worthy, but it's good enough.I want a legit remaster of Flashback![]()
I never knew this game existed. A youtube video I saw had both Out of this World and Heart of the Alien on it. Me wants.
Well looks like the PS4 is getting Another World. Comes out June 25th and runs at a resolution of 2560Ă—1600. Should look crisp as hell I guess. The Sega-CD Soundtrack is an option. It also is cross buy and has cross platform trophies as well as cross save.
Give me Flashback or give me death.
With the Amiga soundtrack.
Of course I played Flashback. I played it on my uncle's Amiga. Still since the next game made by Chahi was Heart of Darkness that is my spiritual sequel.
He had an idea for the sequel but they didn't go with it and in the end he wasn#t involved with the sequel:

So GAF, you're saying that I should play this for the first time on my Wii U next week?
I like the cut of your jib, sir/madam.

How is this release different from the 20th Anniversary version that came out a couple years ago? Or is it just a console port of that remastered version?

It's a story-driven platformer with puzzles that operate on a lot of player trial and error. You will die and make mistakes in this game a lot, but that's what makes it fun.
Seems identical to me. They're both the same as the 15th Anniversary Edition too, they just keep rebranding it every 5 years. Which is fine by me, I hope it sells forever and is ported to every system known to man.How is this release different from the 20th Anniversary version that came out a couple years ago? Is that in the PC version too? I might actually buy that piece of junk in that case.

Martial: Since the original version, the re-editions have introduced a number of nice additions, like 256 colors backgrounds, up to 720p resolutions, more checkpoints and remastered sound effects. This version now delivers a full HD experience. The game is rendered at a higher than displayed resolution to enable clean anti-aliased polygon edges. On PS4 thatÂ’s a whopping 2560Ă—1600 pixels! The backgrounds have been edited by Eric to a higher resolution and are now displayed in full color. The result is a noise-free, crisper, and more vibrant environment.
Heart of the Alien anyone?

Agreed. I was privileged to be in the front row when Chahi did his postmortem at GDC some years back; his talk was incredibly inspiring and culminated in a standing ovation from the packed crowd (myself included of course!) that he was so humbled and taken aback by. Amazing guy, landmark achievement.Lol I feel the same way. People get frustrated with this games iterations but it's such a landmark game that's influence is still pulsing through the industry, that everyone should be able to play it.
The Lego games on PS4 and Child of Light PS4/XBO do so to different degrees. Is this the first time downsampling has been used on a console game?
An original graphics mode, 5x integer upscale would be nice as an option.Amazing game. Absolutely blew me away back in the early 90s.
