Yes. I studied game development at Uni but decided it wasn't for me.

This is a tough one if I am a project lead then I would like to work on it for several years but If I am a normal employee then I would prefer to work on different projects over time.

5. If you did work in the game industry, would you prefer to work in a company that has a publisher as a partnership or work in a company that self-publishes games?

On one hand the financial security is good if working with a publisher but you are restricted creatively and self-published games have room for a lot of growth, both creatively and financially.

1)Nope

2) Long term. Security is reassuring considering I'm currently a student worrying of such things for the future.

3) Large studio, I like the idea of being apart of a big project

4) To work on a large project for very long is a bit of an investment it seems. I'd go with several in hopes of there being a change of pace.

5) Self-publish, I don't claim to know much of the pros and cons of this, I have ideas. I think self-publishing probably has more control over the project, which may help not compromise the originally intended concept.

1. Have you considered becoming a game developer / are you currently a game developer?

2. In general, do you prefer contract / temporary employment or long term / permanent employment?

3. If you worked in the game industry, would you prefer to work at a small / indie studio or a large / AAA studio?

4. Would you prefer to work on one large project over the course of several years, or work on several different projects over the same course of time?

5. If you did work in the game industry, would you prefer to work in a company that has a publisher as a partnership or work in a company that self-publishes games?

1. Sure, I've thought about it.

2. Long term / permanent

3. Small / Indie studio

4. Probably one large project

5. Publisher partnership

1. I am not, nor have I ever been one. Honestly, I considered it in school, but I didn't do too well at programming or art. I am looking into the possibility of someday working on the project management side of things.

2. Long term/permanent without a doubt. I'm married and we're thinking of having kids, so I'd prefer something stable.

3. Definitely leaning towards indie. Some of my favourite games in recent times have been indie games, and I would love to work on something I could be proud of. Given my attitude towards most of the recent aaa output, I'd have to go indie. Wouldn't mind working at a select few aaa devs though. Someone like from software, Bethesda or naughty dog would be nice.

4. Definitely one large project at a time. I have a number of ideas for games I'd like to make (but don't have the talent to do so) and I can't imagine trying to focus on more than one at a time. Making a game would be a massive undertaking, and I think it would be in everyone's best interest to focus 100% on one project at a time so it can be the best game it can possibly be.

5. I'd prefer to work for a company who can self publish. From what we hear, there are good publishers and there are bad ones. I'd probably be okay working with the big three (Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft) as you don't really hear nightmare stories about working with them, but EA, Ubisoft and activision? Not so much. I think working for a company who is able to self publish would be the best for me.

1. Have you considered becoming a game developer / are you currently a game developer?

Thought about it, but have not become one.

2. In general, do you prefer contract / temporary employment or long term / permanent employment?

Long term/permanent employment.

3. If you worked in the game industry, would you prefer to work at a small / indie studio or a large / AAA studio?

I would want to start out at a large studio, would consider something smaller after gaining experience.

4. Would you prefer to work on one large project over the course of several years, or work on several different projects over the same course of time?

One large project.

5. If you did work in the game industry, would you prefer to work in a company that has a publisher as a partnership or work in a company that self-publishes games?

Self-publisher.

1. Considered it. I did a game design camp thing in high school. Realized I sucked at modelling and had no interest in programming. Never considered trying to get into the writing side, even though that's what I'm now trying to do in the film industry. Being a creative director or game writer still sounds fun though :)

2. Contract and temporary employment sucks donkey balls. A steady job would be nice right about now in my life.

3. Small, in the beginning at least. More room to do what you want/explore the boundaries.

4. Depends. Is the one project bigger? I'm more of a focus on one thing at a time kinda guy.

5. Whichever one offers the most creative freedom, so probably self-published.

1. Have you considered becoming a game developer / are you currently a game developer?

I've thought about it. From when I was in college some 18 years ago to just recently. I've looked at tools and read some books but I am more focused on my current career. Maybe some later date if I have more time l.

2. In general, do you prefer contract / temporary employment or long term / permanent employment?

Permanent employment for sure because I feel like the stability is better for lower stress levels and higher productivity. I believe that it benefits employees and employers to build an organization that provides paths for growth and development and encourage more permanency.

3. If you worked in the game industry, would you prefer to work at a small / indie studio or a large / AAA studio?

With that said I would prefer a smaller studio that worked on either contract work or shadow development or tool development and at the least indie development. I am not a huge fan of large AAA development.

4. Would you prefer to work on one large project over the course of several years, or work on several different projects over the same course of time?

I think the above answers this too. Lots of smaller stuff, tools etc and helpin other companies with their projects.

5. If you did work in the game industry, would you prefer to work in a company that has a publisher as a partnership or work in a company that self-publishes games?

Self publishing if possible. I think that independence is a good thing in that regard. It feels like more and more large publishers are needed less and less

1. Have you considered becoming a game developer / are you currently a game developer?
Yes. Currently a game developer.

2. In general, do you prefer contract / temporary employment or long term / permanent employment?
Long term/permanent employment.

3. If you worked in the game industry, would you prefer to work at a small / indie studio or a large / AAA studio?
I would prefer to work at a small indie studio.

4. Would you prefer to work on one large project over the course of several years, or work on several different projects over the same course of time?
I prefer to work on one large project over the course of several years.

5. If you did work in the game industry, would you prefer to work in a company that has a publisher as a partnership or work in a company that self-publishes games?
Self independence is always best if you can go that route.

5. If you did work in the game industry, would you prefer to work in a company that has a publisher as a partnership or work in a company that self-publishes games?

1. Very much so, and i am working on becoming a developer
2. I prefer and enjoy permanent employment. Its nice to have job security
3. I would prefer to work at a studio that can give creative freedom to make what we want.
4. Still would prefer to work on a large project that releases every 2-4 years, but would also love to work and provide insight/help/feedback/design to smaller titles.
5. Publisher, to help better distribute the title, but self fund the title to a point that creative freedom remains with the developer.

1. No, I don't have the skills although I would possibly be interested in 3D modelling for games

2. Long term

3. Large AAA because of the likelihood of long-term job security

4. One large project. It's similar to the work I do now.

5. Self-publish. Less red tape, less people with opinions about everything.

1. I've considered it, but ultimately decided against it because I feel like it would kill my interest in gaming.

2. I prefer contract at the moment, but that will probably change in the future.

3. Indie studio because I feel like my ideas would be heard more and it would be a more collaborative experience.

4. One project.

5. With a publisher (as long as we can communicate quickly and easily and they give us free reign).

1. I was a game developer, particularly for Flash games. I want to get back into it, but I'm half half at that decision.

2. Long term regardless of being a game developer or not.

3. Medium > Large/AAA > Indie. Indie is last because I think they are generally not as financially secure.

4. Multiple projects keeps things more interesting.

5. Prefer self publish. Gives us more control over the project.

1. I'm not one and never considered it. As much as I like videogames it just seems too difficult to penetrate and too unstable even if I did manage it.

2. Long term.

3. AAA studio. See above.

4. One large project if the team is good.

5. Publisher if it's a good relationship. Self publish if it's a bad one :P

1. Have you considered becoming a game developer / are you currently a game developer?

4. Would you prefer to work on one large project over the course of several years, or work on several different projects over the same course of time?

5. If you did work in the game industry, would you prefer to work in a company that has a publisher as a partnership or work in a company that self-publishes games?
1. No. I am not a game developer and I have never considered becoming one.

2. I prefer long term / permanent employment. More stability is better IMO.

3. A large / AAA studio. As nice as an Indie Breakthrough may seem, most crash and burn and at least AAA studios tend to have massive warchests to help them out

4. One large project. Placing all my effort on one assignment would probably allow for the greatest amount of quality.

5. Has a publisher. Allows for a safety net that assures that the game gets shipped. Studios without a publisher may either wait a very long time or even have to cancel their game due to a lack of publishing support

1. Have you considered becoming a game developer / are you currently a game developer?

1. Yes, it's always interested me but am in a different field completely.

2. Long term employment because of Job security and family.

3. Large studio to be part of a larger scoped game

4. One large project so I can focus and dedicate my energy instead of being stretched thin.

5. Self publishing so I wasn't working to the expectations of a larger company overseeing profits and possible profit sharing.

1. Have you considered becoming a game developer / are you currently a game developer?

Somewhat - during free time I write/draw out game concepts. Mess with game maker a little

Long term/Perm

5. If you did work in the game industry, would you prefer to work in a company that has a publisher as a partnership or work in a company that self-publishes games?

Either would be fine. I guess it depends.

1. Yes, three credits away from an AAS in Gaming and Simulation development.

2. Long term/perm. Was at my last job for 9 years, been stuck on part time work for the last 4 years

3. Large so you could learn more and potentially have room to experiment.

4. Several different ones.

5. Self publishes

1. I sadly don't like doing most of the tasks that go along with game development, and I'm no artist, so no.

2. Long term employment for the security.

3. Would prefer a larger company. More support, better chance at networking.

4. Several different projects. Variety is the spice of life.

5. Self publish, it seems easier to make the decisions you want that way.

1. Not seriously. I did as a kid, but as I grew up I realized that's not where I wanted to be.

2. Long term.

3. Probably a Large studio. More job security + better pay I'd think.

4. Several different projects, provided it wasn't the same thing each time.

5. Tough one. I'd go with self publishing I guess. More impact on the design choices.

4. Many projects
5. Self publish

1. Yes but decided not to pursue it

2. Permanent employment

3. Small indie studio

4. Several different projects over the same course of time

5. A company that has a publisher as a partnership

1. Not really. Have screwed around making mobile apps and thought about putting together a game though. Game industry salaries don't seem that appealing unless you are a superstar.

2. Long term employment. Job security is kind of a big deal to me.

3. Large AAA studio. Better job security and would look better on a resume.

4. Several different projects. It's nice to mix it up.

5. Self published.

1. Have you considered becoming a game developer / are you currently a game developer?
The current career path that I'm persuading, actually.

2. In general, do you prefer contract / temporary employment or long term / permanent employment?
Long term. Job security and stuff, you know? But i'm not too against contracts.

3. If you worked in the game industry, would you prefer to work at a small / indie studio or a large / AAA studio?
Hmm. Small for the creativity of the developers, you know?

Several different projects!

5. If you did work in the game industry, would you prefer to work in a company that has a publisher as a partnership or work in a company that self-publishes games?
Self-publish for creativity reasons, again.

1. Have you considered becoming a game developer / are you currently a game developer?

1. No - industry seems too unstable.

3. Large/AAA studio
4. One large project over several years
5. Publisher as a partnership

1. Have you considered becoming a game developer / are you currently a game developer?

5. If you did work in the game industry, would you prefer to work in a company that has a publisher as a partnership or work in a company that self-publishes games?

Yes / Currently learning [UNITY]

Permanent employment is preferable

I think I would prefer a larger house to work on ASAP games

I would prefer one project at a time.

No preference. Leaning towards no publisher.

1. Yes, I am currently developing a game.

2. I prefer Permanent employment.

3. I would prefer a small studio.

4. I would prefer to work on many, small projects.

5. I would prefer a company that self publishes

1. Have you considered becoming a game developer / are you currently a game developer?

1. No, industry is way too unstable right now, as well as rampant with abuse and devs being taken advantage of.

2. In general, do you prefer contract / temporary employment or long term / permanent employment?

2. Contract/temporary employment is a lot more rewarding to me personally.

3. If you worked in the game industry, would you prefer to work at a small / indie studio or a large / AAA studio?

3. Small indie studio, no question. Working for a large studio means your work is a lot less integral to the outcome of the game, while working for a small indie, what you contribute is far more important.

4. Would you prefer to work on one large project over the course of several years, or work on several different projects over the same course of time?

4. One, large project over the course of several years. Seeing years of work from my coworkers and myself culminate in a final product would be incredibly rewarding.

5. If you did work in the game industry, would you prefer to work in a company that has a publisher as a partnership or work in a company that self-publishes games?

5. I'd prefer to work for a company that self-publishes. While there are good publishers out there, the creative freedom allowed by self-publishing is just too great to give up.

1. Yes, was my goal when perusing computer science. I ended up working at a software company in another field though.

2. Permanent

3. Large

4. Probably larger project, it's what I'm used to currently

5. Company that has a publisher

1. I have considered it, and I'm currently on track to becoming a trained UX Designer, so it very well may be an option in the future.

2. Long term/permanent employment

3. A small/indie studio, preferably - however, I'd be happy to consider both if given the opportunity.

4. One large project, preferably, as User Experience Research takes time, consistency, and patience.

5. I would prefer to work at a company that self-publishes games.
