Answer five short questions for a chance to win a $60 game (Now Closed)

1. No, not interested in creating games.

2. Long term / permanent.

3. Small / indie, because you would get to know everyone who contributes to the whole experience.

4. I'd prefer to work on one large project over multiple years.

5. I'd be interested in self-publishing, because the economical aspect is more interesting than the developing one.

1. For ~ five minutes in the 80s after hacking something together in Basic.

2. Temporary.

3. First AAA, then indie.

4. Different games.

5. Publisher.

1. Have you considered becoming a game developer / are you currently a game developer?

2. In general, do you prefer contract / temporary employment or long term / permanent employment?

3. If you worked in the game industry, would you prefer to work at a small / indie studio or a large / AAA studio?

4. Would you prefer to work on one large project over the course of several years, or work on several different projects over the same course of time?

5. If you did work in the game industry, would you prefer to work in a company that has a publisher as a partnership or work in a company that self-publishes games?
1. I've considered it, but I'd be more of a writer than anything technical, but ideally I'd like to know modeling, scripting, and so on.

2. Long-term/permanent.

3. Tough question. Somewhere in the middle, a la Platinum Games/From Software (before Dark Souls took off).

4. Both are fine.

5. Both have their benefits/drawbacks, so, both.
I think I'd try publisher first, then self-publishing.

1.) Yes, I've considered it as I plan on going in to software development. Likely better money outside of gamedev though.

2.) I prefer long stable work.

3.) I'd rather work at a AAA studio. Indie studios may not be bogged down, but the specialization in a AAA sounds better.

4.) I'd like to work on a lot of different projects since I feel like I'd get bored of one over a few years.

5.) Tough, but I think a company that has a publisher. Takes a load off having someone else advertise and market, since advertising my own projects has never been a fun process for me.

1. No, not seriously at least

2. Permenant Employment

3. I'd prefer working at a big studio where my position may be more secure even if I lose some freedom and impact on game.

4. I'd rather do one larger project

5. Self Publishing.

1. I am not, but I did consider it a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.

2. Permanent.

3. Small indie for sure.

4. Several smaller projects.

5. Self-publishing.

1. No, don't really have the skills for coding. Tried it one semester in college though, and found it to confusing.

2. Long term / permanent employment by far.

3. I would prefer a large AAA studio if only for hopefully more job security.

4. I would prefer to work on several projects over a time, to keep my mind fresh.

5. Prefer a self-publishing company.

1. No / no

2. Permanent employment

3. AAA studio

4. several different projects

5. self-publishes

Cool contest, and thanks!

No.

Small.

4. Would you prefer to work on one large project over the course of several years, or work on several different projects over the same course of time?
Different projects.

5. If you did work in the game industry, would you prefer to work in a company that has a publisher as a partnership or work in a company that self-publishes games?
Self-publish.

Alrighty!
1. I've considered it, but I've heard that it can be pretty taxing.
2. Permanent. I like having reliable work.
3. An indie studio; I've heard too many stories about being expendable in a AAA workplace.
4. One project. I'd nurture it to hell and back.
5. A partnership. Partnerships can lead to pretty cool things sometimes.

1. Have you considered becoming a game developer / are you currently a game developer?
Yes and am currently

2. In general, do you prefer contract / temporary employment or long term / permanent employment?
Permanent as it offers better security, especially as I'm considering starting a family within the next few years. Being able to stay in one place is key.

3. If you worked in the game industry, would you prefer to work at a small / indie studio or a large / AAA studio?
Hard to say really, more creative freedom with a small/indie studio as well as a wider mix of responsibilities but less security. So sorry, a draw I guess?

4. Would you prefer to work on one large project over the course of several years, or work on several different projects over the same course of time?
Depends on the project. It's incredibly satisfying to see something you've worked on for years of your life go out to wide acclaim (if it hits!) so probably that :)

5. If you did work in the game industry, would you prefer to work in a company that has a publisher as a partnership or work in a company that self-publishes games?
Self-publish as working with a publishing partner often takes away more creative control than people realise.

1. Have you considered becoming a game developer / are you currently a game developer?

No, I have never considered becoming a game developer, nor am I currently employed by a game developer.

2. In general, do you prefer contract / temporary employment or long term / permanent employment?

I vastly prefer long term/ permanent employment in my field (engineering). Having worked in both I find the stability of working full time and with permanent employment is nice.

3. If you worked in the game industry, would you prefer to work at a small / indie studio or a large / AAA studio?

I would likely like to work for an indie developer, as getting in on the ground floor for a good product may be more beneficial than the eternal crunch/layoff cycle the big developers offer. (I am well aware that working as an indie would likely result in eternal "crunch")

4. Would you prefer to work on one large project over the course of several years, or work on several different projects over the same course of time?

In my field I prefer one or two large projects, with the occasional side project of a smaller scale (and more limited involvement).

5. If you did work in the game industry, would you prefer to work in a company that has a publisher as a partnership or work in a company that self-publishes games?

I respect the people working as self publishers more, so I think I would prefer to work for them.

Ok, let's do this.

1. Yes, I would like to be one in the near future.

2. Permanent employment.

3. An indie studio.

4. Different projects over the years.

5. A company that self publishes its games.

Q. Have you considered becoming a game developer / are you currently a game developer?

A. No, not ever.

Q. In general, do you prefer contract / temporary employment or long term / permanent employment?

A. Long term / permanent employment.

Q. If you worked in the game industry, would you prefer to work at a small / indie studio or a large / AAA studio?

A. I think I would prefer to work at a smaller developer.

Q. Would you prefer to work on one large project over the course of several years, or work on several different projects over the same course of time?

A. It would be neater to work on several different projects, I think, if for no other reason than to keep me on my toes.

Q. If you did work in the game industry, would you prefer to work in a company that has a publisher as a partnership or work in a company that self-publishes games?

A. I would want to work in a company that self-publishes.

I've considered it yes

2. In general, do you prefer contract / temporary employment or long term / permanent employment?

Long term permanent

3. If you worked in the game industry, would you prefer to work at a small / indie studio or a large / AAA studio?

Indie studio

4. Would you prefer to work on one large project over the course of several years, or work on several different projects over the same course of time?

Self publishes

1. Have you considered becoming a game developer / are you currently a game developer?
I'm working on music and sound design under contract for videogame companies but I never seriously considered working directly on game/gameplay design etc.

2. In general, do you prefer contract / temporary employment or long term / permanent employment?
I prefer long term since I have a son and bills to pay (house, cars and such). I take contracts as "bonuses" and try to fit them within my permanent work schedule.

3. If you worked in the game industry, would you prefer to work at a small / indie studio or a large / AAA studio?
Small/indie for sure. More freedom.

4. Would you prefer to work on one large project over the course of several years, or work on several different projects over the same course of time?
Several. I've worked for more than 3 years on one project and it wasn't productive. I had time to change my mind and redid 90% of the soundtrack.

5. If you did work in the game industry, would you prefer to work in a company that has a publisher as a partnership or work in a company that self-publishes games?
In the music industry, partners, publishers and marketing are very important so I guess the same rules apply here.

1. No, not seriously or since childhood.

2. Long term/Permanent.

3. Leaning towards Indie Studio to have more potential influence in decisions.

4. One large project.

5. Self-Publish.

1. No, not really.

2. Permanent/long term employment all the way.

3. Small, indie studio.

4. Several different projects at once.

5. Self-publishing.

1. Have you considered becoming a game developer / are you currently a game developer?

- Nope.

I have, but I realize I do not have the patience or skills in order to create a game.

2. In general, do you prefer contract / temporary employment or long term / permanent employment?

I like having the security of long term/permanent employment.

3. If you worked in the game industry, would you prefer to work at a small / indie studio or a large / AAA studio?

My dream is to work for a smaller publisher like Atlus or XSeed in some way in Marketing or PR, so I would go with a small/indie studio.

4. Would you prefer to work on one large project over the course of several years, or work on several different projects over the same course of time?

I would not mind either way!

5. If you did work in the game industry, would you prefer to work in a company that has a publisher as a partnership or work in a company that self-publishes games?

Again, I would not mind either way!

1. Have you considered becoming a game developer / are you currently a game developer?

I've considered.

2. In general, do you prefer contract / temporary employment or long term / permanent employment?

Either, but I've only actively tried for the former.

3. If you worked in the game industry, would you prefer to work at a small / indie studio or a large / AAA studio?

Either.

4. Would you prefer to work on one large project over the course of several years, or work on several different projects over the same course of time?

The former.

5. If you did work in the game industry, would you prefer to work in a company that has a publisher as a partnership or work in a company that self-publishes games?

Either.

1. Have you considered becoming a game developer / are you currently a game developer? No

3. If you worked in the game industry, would you prefer to work at a small / indie studio or a large / AAA studio? Large/AAA

4. Would you prefer to work on one large project over the course of several years, or work on several different projects over the same course of time? Several projects

5. If you did work in the game industry, would you prefer to work in a company that has a publisher as a partnership or work in a company that self-publishes games? A publisher partnership I think.

1. Have you onsidered becoming a game developer / are you currently a game developer?

[/b]

1- Yeah, I'm currently studying programing for this same porpuse.

2- Long term.

3 - a large team not AAA but a reasonable size.

4- A large project over several years

5- Self publishing would be great.

1. yes, as a kid I have made very simple text adventures on my C64 and later played around with graphics on Amiga and PC. I'm not good with coding, so doing something on my own never worked out for me. my friends just didn't have any interest in doing something together, so nothing ever happened.

2. personally, I'd love to work with many different studios to avoid being stuck at making the same damn game (if it was a success) for the rest of my life.

3. I haven't but both situations have their advantages. personally, I'd prefer a smaller team.

4. depends entirely on the project. I want to feel confident with what the team created and that could take time. but I would prefer a small project(s) at the beginning, just to see how my input in a game comes across with the audience.

5. again depends on the project, as long as my vision doesn't scare publishers I wouldn't mind working with one.

1. No

2. permanent employment

3. small / indie studio

4. several different projects over the same course of time

5. self-publishes games

1. Have you considered becoming a game developer / are you currently a game developer?

Currently a game designer/3D artist at an educational simulation studio.

2. In general, do you prefer contract / temporary employment or long term / permanent employment?

Long term is definitely better unless your single and can move easily.

3. If you worked in the game industry, would you prefer to work at a small / indie studio or a large / AAA studio?

I think I would enjoy both and ultimately hope to work at both to experience both sides.

4. Would you prefer to work on one large project over the course of several years, or work on several different projects over the same course of time?

Right now I work on 3-5 projects at once and it has it's pros and cons. You get to switch it up often but you can often be overwhelmed.

5. If you did work in the game industry, would you prefer to work in a company that has a publisher as a partnership or work in a company that self-publishes games?

Self published because you don't have to worry about outside the company opinions.

If anyone has any other questions just let me know.

1. Have you considered becoming a game developer / are you currently a game developer?

I considered it a few years back.

2. In general, do you prefer contract / temporary employment or long term / permanent employment?

Long term and permanent. I think job security is important and like working at the same place.

3. If you worked in the game industry, would you prefer to work at a small / indie studio or a large / AAA studio?

I think I would prefer smaller/ indie studio. I think I rather have a bigger input in a game than just a person in the hundreds.

4. Would you prefer to work on one large project over the course of several years, or work on several different projects over the same course of time?

I would prefer several different projects, one project would get boring for me.

5. If you did work in the game industry, would you prefer to work in a company that has a publisher as a partnership or work in a company that self-publishes games?

Self-publishes.

Alright GAF! Here’s how it works: You can win a game of your choice, valued up to $60 USD. All you have to do is answer the five questions below and post your reply in this thread. All questions are in the yes/no or either/or formats, so answering them shouldn’t take long at all. My thought for this was that it should take less time than the “draw me an MS paint picture of…” competitions that have been on GAF before. Ideally, your answers should be concise and clearly indicate one side or the other (or neutral.) If you go into detail in such a way that makes it unclear which side of the fence you are on, I will mark it as neutral, but you will still be entered in the drawing as long as you answer each question.

If fewer than 50 people enter, I will choose one winner. If more than 50 people enter, I will choose two winners. I will put each entrant into a spreadsheet, and pull winning numbers from their cell assignment within that spreadsheet. As such, your entry number will not correspond to your post number in the thread. I can upload a short video of picking the random winners, showing the spreadsheet, so that you can be sure everything is on the level. I will be using random.org to pick the winning numbers.

The prizes can be distributed on the platform of your choice. If you are on PC, I will simply gift the game of your choice to you. If you are on Xbox or PlayStation, I will buy a digital gift card for $60 USD and give you the code. If you are on Nintendo platforms, I will buy a $50 and a $10 gift card and give both to you.

Unfortunately, this is currently open only to U.S. residents. (See edit below for more) I really wanted to do this internationally, but from the searching that I’ve done, both on GAF and the rest of the Internet, it appears that codes are region specific. If anyone can correct me on this or provide an easy solution, I would be happy to open this up internationally.

How long this runs is going to depend a lot on how quickly people enter. Ideally, I’d like to close it Monday, November 9th at noon PST (GMT -8.) Because I have to enter the data myself, I may have to close it earlier than that if there are just too many entries. Alternatively, if too few people enter, I may leave it open until Wednesday the 11th at the same time.

I'm doing all of this as part of a research project for a technical writing course. Your answers will be anonymous - I'll only use your username to distribute the prizes. In case anyone is wondering, I did run this idea by a mod before making this thread.

With all of that out of the way, here are the questions!

Edit: If you are confident that I can get a code / gift to you legally and easily (such as gifting on Steam internationally) feel free to enter. I am not limiting this to U.S. for analysis purposes, only to make sure that whoever enters and wins is able to get their prize without using VPNs or third-party key sellers. If you're confident that region restrictions won't hinder you from getting your prize from a U.S. resident, you are more than welcome to enter.

Edit 2: This is going a lot better than I imagined. As such, I'm going to close this drawing after the first 1000 entries or Monday the 9th at Noon PST, whichever comes first. This will help keep the odds of winning from being too microscopic, and will also ensure that I'm not spending the next 6 weeks compiling this data :)

5. If you did work in the game industry, would you prefer to work in a company that has a publisher as a partnership or work in a company that self-publishes games?

1. No, I'm a linux systems engineer. The devs and I do not get along :)

2. Long term permanent, I think this will be very lopsided for those of us who support our families.

3. I would prefer a large AAA studio, smaller companies infrastructure and environments are generally a mess and require lots of clean up before anything fun can be done.

4. Several projects over time. Getting stuck doing one thing when you run into issues doesn't allow you to walk away, deal with something else, and come back to it with a clear head.

5. Not given this one a lot of thought, I imagine I would be indifferent to either way, but it'd want to experience both to understand why I would prefer one over the other.
