Answer five short questions for a chance to win a $60 game (Now Closed)

1. Yes, considered, check out how much $ these f2p game are making.

2. Long term / permanent employment.

3. Small indie, feel they are better in touch with their community

4. One large project, gotta make your mark.

5. I know we all hate publishers, but to me, seems like the safest way to cover funding. But I'm not a dev

1. I've been slowly working on an independent game myself this past year.

2. Currently I'm working under contract, but I am mostly indifferent, so long as I like what I do.

3. Small team.

4. One large project. I want to make it the best I can, and focus on it entirely.

5. Self Publishing, for sure.

1. Have you considered becoming a game developer / are you currently a game developer?

Nope.

2. In general, do you prefer contract / temporary employment or long term / permanent employment?

Long term.

3. If you worked in the game industry, would you prefer to work at a small / indie studio or a large / AAA studio?

I think the benefits would be better within a bigger organization, but I would be happier in a small indie team. It would feel more like a family, which is great!

4. Would you prefer to work on one large project over the course of several years, or work on several different projects over the same course of time?

I like change, so I would like to work on smaller projects. It keeps things fresh.

5. If you did work in the game industry, would you prefer to work in a company that has a publisher as a partnership or work in a company that self-publishes games?

I would prefer working with a publisher in partnership like arrangement. If the game is a hit, they'll be eager to fund your next project, I would think!

1. When I was much younger, I use to think it would be cool to work for Nintendo as a developer. I still think it would be cool, but I heard it's hard to get into the industry. I am not a game developer.

2. I prefer long term employment, I don't like not knowing where my next source of income is going to come from. Stable work is the best fit for me.

3. I think I would like to start out in a smaller company because large companies seem to treat their employees like they are dispensible. Hectic schedule would be too much and I would be liable to forget something.

4. I think one large project for the mean time and when finished, work on a smaller project to keep things interesting. I am likely to come up with many ideas which may be more useful in a smaller game.

5. I would rather work with a developer that does contract work for other companies, not necessarily owned by a publisher. Platinum Games makes amazing games although they don't sell very well, but that atmosphere would be wonderful.

Thanks for the opportunity :)

1. Occasionally, but never very long or very hard; for the purposes of your research, a definite "No"

2. Long term; I like job security.

3. Small; I like knowing who I'm working with

4. Several different projects; it would keep me from getting burnt out.

5. Self-publishing; less corporate meddling is always a good thing.

1. Have you considered becoming a game developer / are you currently a game developer?

When I was very young and thought it meant it was just playing games all day without responsibility.

Now more than ever the horror stories of layoffs, long hours, and under compensation (or even not getting paid at all) have forever stained my opinion of what its like to be a game developer.

2. In general, do you prefer contract / temporary employment or long term / permanent employment?

Long term employment. In today's world, benefits like income security and health insurance have never been so important.

3. If you worked in the game industry, would you prefer to work at a small / indie studio or a large / AAA studio?

Whoever treats their employees the best. I haven't looked twice at the career so it would require research.

4. Would you prefer to work on one large project over the course of several years, or work on several different projects over the same course of time?

Several projects. I get bored easy and not only that but about being tacked to something for multiple years and having it be a disaster would devastate me.

5. If you did work in the game industry, would you prefer to work in a company that has a publisher as a partnership or work in a company that self-publishes games?

See #3. This would play zero percent in my decision making process. The allure of self publishing implies ownership of IP, but unless I was running the studio the property still just belongs to a guy that's not me.

1. Have you considered becoming a game developer / are you currently a game developer?

Yes

2. In general, do you prefer contract / temporary employment or long term / permanent employment?

Long-term

Small / Indie

4. Would you prefer to work on one large project over the course of several years, or work on several different projects over the same course of time?

One large project over several years.

5. If you did work in the game industry, would you prefer to work in a company that has a publisher as a partnership or work in a company that self-publishes games?

Self-publishing.

Not in US but would love to 'help' either way.

1. Yes, currently a game developer
2. Permanent employment
3. AAA studio
4. Different projects
5. I prefer a company that self-publishes games

1. no, but I certainly want to be a voice actor and writer for games!

2. Long term, I definitely like the idea of having a sort of 2nd family at work.

3.Small and indie, probably.

4. Several different projects.

5. Self publishing, probably.

I'm not eligible to win but I want to answer anyho.

1. Have you considered becoming a game developer / are you currently a game developer?
Yes, I am a game dev. Currently working as programmer at a small studio.

2. In general, do you prefer contract / temporary employment or long term / permanent employment?
Both have its ups and downs. I prefer long term, permanent employment for stability since I have a family and bills to pay. Downside is you don't really know when you'll be let go so that can hit when least expected. I'm on contract for a bit now and I don't mind it that much since I know when I'll have to look for work and to be honest, my view is if the company has work and I perform well, they'll keep extending my contract. If they don't have work, they'll still let me go even if I'm permanent employee there for a while.

3. If you worked in the game industry, would you prefer to work at a small / indie studio or a large / AAA studio?
Prefer small studio because I can get to know everyone. I am not just a employee number whatever to the management.

4. Would you prefer to work on one large project over the course of several years, or work on several different projects over the same course of time?
No preference here actually. I do what needs to be done whether that's one project at once or multiple project at once.

5. If you did work in the game industry, would you prefer to work in a company that has a publisher as a partnership or work in a company that self-publishes games?
Again, no preference. Whatever work gives me a job. Just because a company makes its own games and self-publish doesn't necessary mean I'm making games I want to play.

Note: answer to 4 and 5 make me sound like I don't care about my job, but I do. I love what I do but reality is, a job is a job. Pretty much all the games that has my name in the credits are games in genres I don't really play. Regardless, I still enjoy my job.

1. Yes.

2. Long term / permanent.

3. A small / indie studio.

4. One large project.

5. A company that self-publishes games.

Thank you for the contest!

1. Have you considered becoming a game developer / are you currently a game developer?

I have considered. I am not.

2. In general, do you prefer contract / temporary employment or long term / permanent employment?

Longterm/permanent

3. If you worked in the game industry, would you prefer to work at a small / indie studio or a large / AAA studio?

Small/indie

4. Would you prefer to work on one large project over the course of several years, or work on several different projects over the same course of time?

One large project

5. If you did work in the game industry, would you prefer to work in a company that has a publisher as a partnership or work in a company that self-publishes games?

No preference, this would really by a case-by-case basis thing. Generally speaking, I would prefer the independence of a self-published project.

5. If you did work in the game industry, would you prefer to work in a company that has a publisher as a partnership or work in a company that self-publishes games?

1 - Yes. I dabble in my own projects but nothing id care to distribute.

2 - If i was single without any children id take contract / temporary employment becuase i like to change things up. Becuase i have a family i need something a little more guaranteed. so long term / permanent.

3 - AAA studio.

4 - One large project

5 - Company that self publishes games.

Good luck with your study =)

1. I have considered it as there are a few rpgs I want to make and an endless phone game that I want to make that nothing exists of similar design.

2. I've only really had experience with long term though I would be open to contract.

3. Hands down small/indie AAA games wouldn't allow me any creative freedom and I would be merely a cog in the machine instead of creating something I would love.

4. I write a lot and how that has gone is I have one large project I work on and a bunch of smaller ones I do from time to time when I need a break from the large product.

5. self publish if possible. while I would be open to other's suggestions I wouldn't enjoy being forced to change things just to make someone who knows nothing about games happy.

With all of that out of the way, here are the questions!

1. Have you considered becoming a game developer / are you currently a game developer?

2. In general, do you prefer contract / temporary employment or long term / permanent employment?

3. If you worked in the game industry, would you prefer to work at a small / indie studio or a large / AAA studio?

5. If you did work in the game industry, would you prefer to work in a company that has a publisher as a partnership or work in a company that self-publishes games?
1. I have thought about it off and on. I keep wanting to get into indie projects but time is usually the limiting factor. So not currently a game developer, but I have wanted to be and consider taking a leap here and there.

2. Long-term/permanent employment.

3. A small indie studio.

4. One large project over several years.

5. In terms of ideal (everything going well in either scenario), one that self-publishes games.

1. Yes, still consider.
2. Long term.
3. Small studio at first.
4. Several different projects. Life's too short to spend 5+ years working on a single project that might fail.
5. Company that self-publishes.

QUESTION: What would happen if the game requested is for the Wii U?

Oh dang, you caught me! It looks like they don't sell $60 cards there, so I will buy a $50 card and a $10 eShop card so you get the same value as everyone else. I will edit the OP to include the eShop.

1. Considered, but never made any sort of move towards it.

2. Long term employment.

3. AAA, but one I liked. Big teams are fun.

4. Probably several projects.

5. Self publish definitely.

1. Have you considered becoming a game developer / are you currently a game developer?
Yes, it's something I've been considering for a few months.

2. In general, do you prefer contract / temporary employment or long term / permanent employment?
Permanent

3. If you worked in the game industry, would you prefer to work at a small / indie studio or a large / AAA studio?
Independent

4. Would you prefer to work on one large project over the course of several years, or work on several different projects over the same course of time?
Several different projects

5. If you did work in the game industry, would you prefer to work in a company that has a publisher as a partnership or work in a company that self-publishes games?
Publisher partnership would work better for what I have in mind because it would allow for usage of their IPs for cameos/bonus content.

1. Yes, I considered becoming a game dev when I was younger.

2. Long term/permanent employment.

3. Large AAA studio because of available resources.

4. One Large project over the span of a few years.

5. Self-publish

1. I have certainly considered it as I originally was taking a degree in it (am not any longer). I am not in the industry though in any capacity

2. Long term permanent employment. I prefer to know when my next paycheck is coming to me so I can better plan myself out financially.

3. Based on the horror stories I've heard of AAA work a small or indie studio.

4. Large project over the course of weeks. I enjoy having a tangible curve to my work and being able to look back on what I've done and see progress I can be proud of.

5. I would prefer to work in a company that self publishes games. I've heard too many people talking about the "suits" from the publisher who does not understand what you are doing demanding ridiculously stringent deadlines and requirements while stripping away your creative freedom to fill a feature list.

1. Kinda thought about it, but with college and part time work, I don't really have time to learn the various tools.

2. I'd prefer long-term work, but I'm doing part-time work while in college.

3. Indie devs probably work as hard, if not harder than AAA devs, and both have the same lack of a guaranteed job once the project is complete. The difference is that AAA devs get paid while the game is getting made, while the indie dev gets paid once the game is done. I'd prefer to start out as a AAA dev, and maybe move to indie several years down the line.

4. One project over a course of years, while developing basic ideas for other projects during that time.

5. Self-published. You'd have less financial security, but more freedom to make your game how you want it.

5. If you did work in the game industry, would you prefer to work in a company that has a publisher as a partnership or work in a company that self-publishes games?

1. No. Thought it was interesting when I was in middle school but fell out of the idea once I realized what it entailed

2. Longterm/permanent. I don't like moving to new places, I'd much rather be comfortable in a job knowing the only reason for me to lose it is my own doing, or financial hardships, not the end of a project or calendar year.

3. AAA, for stability. I do IT work and did actually apply to Bethesda way back when.

4. Tough choice. Probably one large one to focus all my time/energy into it

5. Probably a partnership

Thanks for doing this!

1.Probably did wanted to when I was younger but not now.

2.Long term employment.

3.AAA/large

4.Several different projects.

5.Self-publishing preferred.

1. Considered/considering yes. Haven't worked professionally but have delved into hobby projects with friends and game jams. I have been programming for 10 years and have a compsci degree.

2. Long-term/permanent employment.

3. Small or indie studio, doing games in scope between indie and AAA. Mid-size team.

4. Smaller projects

5. Self-publish or a publisher that has a good relationship with its studio regarding creative freedom.

Also a lot of games are worldwide region on PC so shouldn't be too much of an issue to do international.

1. Have you considered becoming a game developer / are you currently a game developer?

Yeah.

2. In general, do you prefer contract / temporary employment or long term / permanent employment?

Long term.

3. If you worked in the game industry, would you prefer to work at a small / indie studio or a large / AAA studio?

Succesful indie company.

4. Would you prefer to work on one large project over the course of several years, or work on several different projects over the same course of time?

Several.

5. If you did work in the game industry, would you prefer to work in a company that has a publisher as a partnership or work in a company that self-publishes games?

...Both?

1. Have you considered becoming a game developer / are you currently a game developer?

Yes, considered.

2. In general, do you prefer contract / temporary employment or long term / permanent employment?

Permanent.

3. If you worked in the game industry, would you prefer to work at a small / indie studio or a large / AAA studio?

Large AAA studio.

4. Would you prefer to work on one large project over the course of several years, or work on several different projects over the same course of time?

One large project over the course of several years.

5. If you did work in the game industry, would you prefer to work in a company that has a publisher as a partnership or work in a company that self-publishes games?

Self-published projects are preferred, but not all studios can do this.

1. I have considered being a game developer, and I'll probably enter that industry in the near future

2. Absolutely long-term employment.

3. Small Indie studio, mainly due to the bigger creative freedom.

4. Id prefer working on several projects in a short amount of time

5. Self-publishing all the day, same reason why I wouldnt want to work at a large studio. More creative freedom.

1) Yes, it's been a pipe dream for me
2) Long-Term
3) Indie seems more fun and personable
4) Several different projects
5) Self-Publish

Thanks for doing this, this is awesome of you!

1. Have you considered becoming a game developer / are you currently a game developer?

Yes, I am one now!

2. In general, do you prefer contract / temporary employment or long term / permanent employment?

I like long term. More benefits and a stable income.

3. If you worked in the game industry, would you prefer to work at a small / indie studio or a large / AAA studio?

small indie studio. It would feel more like a family instead of a corporation.

4. Would you prefer to work on one large project over the course of several years, or work on several different projects over the same course of time?

Several. I find my best work is when I'm initially engaged in a project, so I feel I can add a lot in that time.

5. If you did work in the game industry, would you prefer to work in a company that has a publisher as a partnership or work in a company that self-publishes games?

Self publish all the way. I think it's just better for making you seem like you're worth it on your own.

1. No, not really,
I thought about it for a couple weeks as a teen, then I looked up how hard it would be and got discouraged.

2.Permanent employment.
I'd rather have a consistent reliable job than an inconsistent one, even if the pay wsa better for the Temp/contract I'd still go with the Permanent one. A small check you can count on is still better then one that's not always guaranteed.

3. AAA Studio,
Indie teams are typically close knit and expect a lot out of the few members they have. I'd prefer to work at a AAA studio where I'd be a small cog in much bigger machine.

4. Several smaller projects,
even the best work needs variation or else you'll start to hate it.

5. Self-publishing,
seems like there would be fewer complications.

5. If you did work in the game industry, would you prefer to work in a company that has a publisher as a partnership or work in a company that self-publishes games?

1. Not at all. The thought of being a game designer was interesting to me when I was younger, but the realities of what that involves have very much put me off ever wanting to go down that path.

2. Permanent

3. Small/indie. Less pay vs. more personal connection with your fellow employees.

4. One large project. Something to be said for spending time on what could be considered a magnum opus.

5. A company that self-publishes games, I suppose? Hard to say.

1. Not seriously, only have fantasized a bit about it when I was younger.

2. long term / permanent employment

3. small / indie studio

4. several different projects

5. self-published games

1. Considered but damn do I hate programming. I could see working in an online environment like with Blizzard's games.
2. Contract
3. What is CDPR considered? I like their size. 200 or so seems good enough.
4. Several different projects.
5. Self-publish would be nice. As much as I like Obsidian they get fucked over with publishers.

3. Large AAA studio
4. One project over the course of several years
5. Hmmm... Self-publisher pls

1. Have you considered becoming a game developer / are you currently a game developer?
I considered it when I was younger. I read a few books on game developement and even took a class in middle school. I found it very difficult and I guess I realized I enjoyed playing games rather than making them.

2. In general, do you prefer contract / temporary employment or long term / permanent employment?
Definitely long-term. Job security is important.

3. If you worked in the game industry, would you prefer to work at a small / indie studio or a large / AAA studio?
I love indie devs and what they do for the industry but I always loved the idea of working at a major studio, having a hand in creating the next huge system seller has always excited me.

4. Would you prefer to work on one large project over the course of several years, or work on several different projects over the same course of time?
One large project. Don't like the idea of getting bogged down by multiple games. Work on one and put everything you have into it.

5. If you did work in the game industry, would you prefer to work in a company that has a publisher as a partnership or work in a company that self-publishes games?
I don't know if I'd have a preferance to be honest. I guess I'd choose publisher partnership.

3. Employed in a large studio, but dabble in indie projects.

5. Self-publisher.

I would love to flit from project to project.

5. If you did work in the game industry, would you prefer to work in a company that has a publisher as a partnership or work in a company that self-publishes games?

It would be nice to be free of the publisher yoke, but self-publishing is a risky and stressful procedure, so my guess is I would go with the former.

1. Yes wanted too, no didn't go into the field

2. Prefer permanent employment

3. Small, though I don't mind either way

4. It would depend a lot of the project. If it was something I was passionate about I have no problem long term, other wise smaller/multiple projects

5. Prefer self, but wouldn't sway me either way
