Anthem reviews are starting to drop [literally]

I just completed the main "story" on hard and currently have the credits rolling. All I got for my troubles in the final mission was a purple epic muster point.

Feeling robbed is an under statement 😂

Are you playing solo?. I'm playing solo on normal and find the game very hard at times. I bow to your superior gaming powers friend!

I think I'm going to avoid co op until necessary. I'd rather not rush through shit from point A to point B. That's part of why I could never get into Warframe, people leaping around the screen 200mph as I'm trying to figure out the controls and trying to pay attention a little to the story.

Though I think I read one of the milestones needed for that grind part of the main story is to have a certain number of revives.... which means MP may be forced at some point. Is that the case?

Yes there's one objective fairly early in the game where you have to open 4 temples, and each of them have specific requirements. You basically have to do it in Freeplay in order to achieve them all. WIth the recent patch the eased some of the requirements, by that I mean you start getting credit for the requirements before you actually get the quest, so by the time you do get it you should be well along completing it.

I got really lucky with that mission because i had spent a fair amount of time in Freeplay doing side stuff, collecting stuff etc, so when i finally got that mission, i could already open up 2 of the tombs, and only needed a tiny bit of grindingfor the other 2.

I've been watching on mixer and have to say the game looks pretty damn fun. Watching Xbox 1X feeds. Wish it had a solo campaign. I don't play multiplayer titles any more.

You can play the whole game solo, i am. In fact everyone i have seen streaming the game has been solo funnily enough.

This always looked terrible.

Karma's a bitch as they say. Bethesda & Bioware had this shit coming to them for being at the forefront of dumbing down the RPG genre for YEARS.

Time to put Bioware outta their misery now and hopefully Bethesda's next.

This game is pretty decent I dunno what it is but it scratches and itch I have been having for a while.

I think the sales will be good and BioWare is on top of whatever they need to do to give this game more sales and legs!

The flying is great almost iron man-ish!

I enjoyed the gameplay of the beta, so the game flopping works for me if I can get it for 30 in a few weeks.

In a game like this, where you're gonna spend 90% of your time shooting at shit, Bioware got that part very right I feel. It seems that people in the reviews are pissed that the story isn't as deep as Mass Effect, but it was never going to be, This isn't an MMO, it's just an online shooter/looter. Yeah it has a lot of technical issues, clunky interfaces and long load times, but that will get sorted out. The game wasn't ready for release, that much is clear, but EA wanted it this fiscal year so Bioware had no choice. I'm picking it up when it hits 30, by then hopefully a lot of its problems will have been sorted out.

Goddamn I love this game. I'm stunned it's got a 60 Meta. The visuals are so insane (playing it on Xbox X) that I feel like that should be 4 or 5 points right off the bat. I'm blown away at how good this game looks. Lighting, textures, character models, motion capture, overall IQ, and jesus christ the particle effects. It's a technical marvel. The graphics are so good that it makes me want to get back into PC gaming just to see the game at max.

Would you say it's almost too good?

I disagree. Nobody was expecting a story on par with Mass Effect or Dragon Age. I think most of us expected a story that was at least better than Destiny's, which isn't exactly a high bar.

Unfortunately Anthem didn't even clear that low bar. The lore is pretty cool, but the story and character interactions that unfold over the course of the game are as boring as can be.

they rolled out a second patch this evening - massive issues with quickplay since - game loses server connection on mission completion, hangs and then becomes unresponsive, only fix is Alt-Tab > quit.

when you complete the main story, you will understand why this is controller bustingly annoying (you have to play a certain number of quickplays to progress a challenge)

anyone else, or am I a "lucky" one?

How's the difficulty? I believe I saw the ability to play it on easy, normal, or hard...is this true?

Easy isn't worth playing on. Normal is ok for one mission to get to grips with the game, but after that you will be bored to tears, and literally just hold down shoot. Hard is what personally i'd have as the "easy" level.

After hard, there is a further two difficulty levels that you unlock.

Awesome. Thx

so far i like the game because it is mecha, but after watching angry joes review, the endgame looks mediocre.

how long did it take you to reach endgame?

also, i'm around level 18 and no more missions pop up in the town. there's this one quest that i need to do that requires me to find the tombs. is this tomb search quest necessary for proceeding in the story ?

Read a couple of reviews and I just finished watching Angry Joe's video. lol

Man, some of these games coming out are just pathetic. Looks like they're just so quick to make some money instead of making a quality game.

I won't lie, I'm actually quite disappointed to hear about the low scores, not because I was expecting anything amazing out of anthem, but because this is bioware's second big failure in the eyes of EA... simply put I fear the future of the studio:messenger_sad_relieved:

The very same EA that keeps interfering with Studios changing what they're doing then complaining when the game bombs, the same EA who continually craps out Sports titles that barely see any updates sans the roster, the same EA who keeps putting microtransaction BS in all their games.

Most importantly though the same EA whom has purchased many successful Studios, and upon a failure takes said Studios out back and has them shot when they don't perform :messenger_pensive:

Love the game. Been playing like a heroine addict. But... it's nowhere near 8.5. It's a 6 at best. The combat is fun and the world is great but the game is a QoL nightmare.

I don't agree. The only issues I'm having are loading and that isn't even as bad as people are saying. I'm having more fun just double jumping and boosting to fly than most entire games I've play last year lol
Looks great, tight controls, fun combat, great co-op, and a ton of reasons to keep playing with loot. Even the story so far seems alright. I just don't agree with the low scores. Some long loading. minor open world bugs, and the menus could be nicer but besides that I'm loving it.

Sad. Bioware used to be one of my favorite developers. They created some of the best games I've ever played. Now they have just completely lost their way.

Bioware doesn't have to be dead.. how about they break from EA and go back to making games like Neverwinter Nights.

I've been playing a little this weekend. The combat is fun and flashy. The world looks pretty maxed out on PC. Everything else about the game kind of sucks. The bad reviews are pretty much on point. They should have delayed this a bit longer instead of trying to ram it out for their quarterly earnings report.

You've described 60% of the game being problematic m8. That is the problem! The great game that is there is surrounded by poor QoL choices and structure. I spent like 15 or so hours since launch playing plus the demo and early access. There are serious points to grind here despite it being fun as hell.

Yeah you have to do that tomb mission. You're roughly half way through the story - that mission is a ball ache (easier after the recent patch) and basically only exists as a padding.. It forces the "story" to be an extra two hours long, and also makes sure you know how to do combos etc.

AJ review is definitely a nail in the coffin for Bioware. Holy shit it was brutal.

Bioware created its own coffin when it failed to build on the good concepts & foundations in the Mass Effect series. It's also a problem with EA as well, because Mass Effect was never a massive seller (nowhere near COD sales numbers), but it was an assurance of continuing existence as a game development studio "if only" they'd managed their resources better & made games within their budget & sales expectancy. F*ck frostbite, build upon the engine used in ME3 & write another Mass Effect game using the same assets. This should have been released in 2015 (3 years after ME3) & should have used the same template (decisions carrying over to the next game). Woulda coulda shoulda.

Chasing Destiny numbers whilst forgetting their own strengths (& reason for their fanbase) was suicide.

EA has absolutely zero interest in developing quality single-player games that reliably sell to a couple million fans and generate enough profit to make the next game. They didn't buy BioWare for that.

They exist only to deliver value (growth) to their shareholders. What they want is some recurring-revenue, microtransaction-filled, streamer-friendly cash cow that prints money and generates new record numbers.

EA cares about gaming as much as MTV cares about music.
