Anyone else hope Luke never fights with a lightsaber in Ep8/9?

Bored Sunday topics!

I've always looked at Yoda's lightsaber fighting in the prequels with disdain since I've always felt that he was powerful enough to not require it for one on one combat. And him flipping around with his little lightsaber always looked ridiculous to me, as did many things prequel-related, I suppose.

Luke potentially takes a Yoda-like role in the upcoming Ep8, but with the distinction that he seemingly rejects the Jedi order and/or philosophy, which I hope extends to the use of lightsabers since those are the signature Jedi/Sith weapon.

I feel like a master force user can still be extremely deadly without a lightsaber in one on one combat with a lightsaber wielder and would show us something new in a live action SW movie.

So what do you think?

In order of preference.

1) No saber (I want him to do the force shit we all thought Yoda would do before he became Backflippy the WonderBooger)
2) Saber: But it's white and/or pale yellow, denoting this new path that he is walking, separate from the Jedi
3) Saber: Ignite the Green, as Steele Saunders would say.

But really, I want him chucking big-ass Metsu Hadokens at the Knights of Ren all fuckin' day long.

considering how powerful the force is, it's definitely not used enough, but I still think the lightsaber is kind of a must.

The question is, why would he?

He should, in theory, be one of the most powerful beings in the universe. When you're as powerful as he should be, there's no need to dirty your hands with saber battles, you just force crush some bitches and go about your day.

I'm always in favor of green saber action and I never bought into the weird fanwank about how Jedi masters shouldn't need lightsabers ever, so I say light 'em up.

If I were one of the most powerful beings in the universe I would use a green lightsaber every goddamn day. It's a fucking movie about space wizards, why does everyone want see people get thought at to death? Break out the laser swords already.

I want somebody to use the force like one of those mutants in the opening of the last xmen movie

Just straight up crush somebody with the sheer weight of it like they're a soda can. That's too horrifying for luke to do. But have a sith do it or ren member or whatever the hell they're called now

The shit kylo did with freezing the blast mid air looked pretty damn awesome for instance

YES. Big force blasts or extreme-precision force slashes or something along those lines.

But I do like your idea of an off-color saber. I know that in the Clone Wars show one of the characters use a black lightsaber?

I most definitely want him to, but if they want to show how powerful a Jedi Master looks, I'd rather they take inspiration from Rogue One with
Vader's hallway scene,
although obviously less stiff since he's not confined to a suit. Basically an extreme level of skill and confidence, shown by no wasted movements
as opposed to the prequels high acrobatics and unnecessary flashiness and flair.

I'm fine with Bobby's version sans lightsaber, but I won't complain about a lightsaber as long as his head isn't cgied onto stunt double like the late great Christopher Lee. That was embarrassing.

I want to see him be as badass as Darth Vader was in Rogue One. Luke was able to beat that guy in Jedi, so I want to see how strong he is after 40 years. If this involves Sabers, then I'll be happy, but I'll take some non-Light Saber action just as long as he does something that's crazy powerful.

I thought someone said he didn't have his old lightsaber anymore? It'd be awesome either way though I would prefer it if Luke became this great bastion of Force energy.

He should have a shitty lightsaber fight where he barely moves as a homage to Sir Alec Guinness and they can play it off like a chess duel between two great masters.

That's what I'm thinking too. If Kylo was able to stop a laser blast midair, wouldn't Luke be able to do even more? Like maybe force an enemy's lightsaber blade back into its hilt?

Well, it should've blown up in Jedi, right? I wanna say we never saw some get it back.

But since he was building a new Jedi order, getting new Light Sabers was probably a thing he had to do. I wouldn't be surprised if he was able to build a new one.

Okay, say it's only force powers, what is it? Just powerful force pushes? Whatever Yoda did to knock out the Imperial Red Guards before he took out his lightsaber and fought Palpatine?

He should use them, but he doesn't need to hold them. Like, they should just hover around him like he's in KH2's Final Form, and he can move them around to do the fighting for him.

He has a green lightsaber in Shattered Empire which takes place after Jedi.

I'd be surprised if he doesn't use it at least once in The Last Jedi or Episode IX.

Well, I guess he could be like Bendu from Rebels. Just a crazy powerful neutral Force user who can turn into a storm cloud, haha.
I think I'd prefer to see him use the green saber though. That or have him steal a bunch of sabers and have them independently attacking on their own while surrounding him defensively or something. Or maybe do like Mace Windu in Clone Wars and just beat everyone down by hand with the Force.

I guess there's casting force lightning, though that's pretty firmly associated with the dark side. But there's also the absorbing and deflecting it that Yoda does in Episode II and III.

Luke could probably use force lightning if he wanted to. It's considered a sith ability, but since he doesn't seem to believe in the balance between light/dark, he probably wouldn't give a shit.

I kind of want to see him do something a little bit questionable – something sadistic.

I hope Luke uses green force lightning and escapes from a black hole using the Force. I want some comic book level bull shit
or old EU bull shit

I want to see a Master. A force of Nature personified. So yes show me the Saber.

Lets see him use Yoda Style, Kenobi Style, Vader Style, Windy Style all in one amazing fight.

Well I wouldn't mind if he just used force lighting but honestly, if I don't even get a single scene of Luke using his green lightsaber then I will be disappointed.

I'd like to see him ignite the green lightsaber but that's more of a fanboy wish rather than something that would serve the story.

My guess is he won't have a lightsaber at all in TLJ. No clue about 9.

Be creative! I mean, is there an explicit ceiling that limits what the force can do? I want to see something new done with it in the movies.

Hmmm, I should maybe watch Rebels.

I would think he's beyond using the saber offensively, but it would be nice to see him use it to effortlessly defend against otherwise unstoppable attacks.

I liked Kylo Ren's new force pause power in TFA. That's something we haven't seen in the movies before.
