Anyone else worried about Final Fantasy XV?

Less worried now than I was before it was re-announced as XV, actually. At least it's being released for sure.

I think by this moment everyone kinda agrees that the game almost 10 years in development after name change, fantastic trailer on E3 that one time, one heroine drop and appearance of the other and some radical changes to gameplay and look of it...At this moment it's just anyones guess if this will turn out good, turn out J-Skyrim or will be just plain bad.
I think it'll be good, but just not the good we expect.

I was hyped for it when it was VS. 13, and especially after the first reveal at E3...

Now - no I'm not.

The bland nu-metal/goth characters, the boring world, the fetch quests, the changing of vs13's story and setting, the almost complete lack of females from what it seems... its looking awful

Good post

Okay, this is just funny. You were hyped for Versus XIII when it included the stuff I bolded?

The "nu-metal/goth" characters were there from the beginning.

The "boring world"? I bet you have explored all of the overworld map in the game, right? Or are you one of those people who believe the very small portion of the Duscae region we explored represents the entirety of the game's world?

The minimal changes in the plot of Versus XIII that we knew almost nothing about, by the way?

Damn, people, at least try to make better excuses.

Still hyped for the story and characters. I mostly like the direction they seem to be taking it.
Battle system they'll probably get right to at least acceptable levels.
Worried about them not getting open world correctly and it being repetitive and dragging on too long.

On second thought, I wish I cared enough to be worried. It's literally been ten years since Square Enix has developed something worthwhile at this point.

Things to be worried about:
  • Poor framerate
  • Boring combat
  • Short playtime
  • Bland MMO side quests for padding
  • That the ATR's didn't keep anything fun a secret.
  • Boring open-world traversal

Things that don't matter:
  • Placeholder voice acting from a demo

I don't know what Final Fantasy is supposed to actually be anymore. You used to be able to rely on the name to give you a certain type of experience, and it was an experience many people liked.

The stories and characters shifted but Final Fantasy meant something. Then came the XIII saga and erased all of that. My concern stems from the fact that I don't know whether Final Fantasy XV will give me what I'm looking for in a Final Fantasy game, I don't know if the name still stands a s a byword for a particular type of quality JRPG experience.

Sad truth about their AAA blockbuster releases. Their side stuff on handhelds like Theatrythm and Bravely Default has been far better than what costs them a gorillion dollars to make.

I have no hype for this game. Fully expecting a trainwreck.

Three quarters of every XV thread is composed of people (legitimately) worried about XV. Personally as long as it turns out better than XIII it's a success in my book.

tbf, none of those FF games were designed by focus testing the hell out of every element in their gameplay.

They already changed the combat again from what they were doing previously because fans didn't like it, or wtv...

So pulling off an amazing battle system in one year? An action system at that? I have a lot of doubts...
Not to mention a good bestiary, I lost any hope for that a long time ago though. If the game has more than 50 different enemies I'll congratulate them...

And the dialogue is fine. Using one line to represent the entirety of the game's quality is not really a good argument... But it is something GAF does I guess.

I'd worry more about their localization. Square hasn't gotten better since their PS1 days (in fact, I'd qualify FFXV's dub as worse than FFX's).

I'd also worry about level design, since they don't have anyone capable of making anything close to even semi-decent level design...

Besides that, their handling of this game has to be the most atrocious handling of a game I've ever seen, but the defense force can easily dismiss this as "just marketing"...

The FFXIII sequels did fall victim to focus testing, according to Kagari. And that shouldn't be hard to believe at all to anyone that's played XIII-2 in particular.

Versus XIII is dead. It's been dead for a while.

So either people deal with it and start judging XV on its own merits, or just abandon this game completely. I don't understand the constant need to have this rainy black cloud over their heads all the time.

Versus XIII is not coming back. You've had years to mourn the death of that vaporware story.
You change your mind pretty quickly, don't you?

No. Game looks fun.

Not a fan of action based combat, but the setting, characters, and premise seem interesting.

I have 0 hype for this game. main cast looks boring. Setting doesn't look promising, world looks dull. Gameplay doesn't strike me as something I want to play and frankly, after the entire XIII trilogy I have little hope. Only good thing is their tech and animation system that the game looks very nice so far. I really want to have a modern FF and this could have been it but so far no, not this way.

I'm going in with very low expectations, so I can better enjoy it. I'm also doing a media blackout so I know nothing about the game. After XIII and XIV, I expect disappointment.

No, I enjoyed the demo plenty (both versions) outside of the technical issues, which I expect to get largely addressed.

As long as the stories decent and it has great locations to explore and do quests in, the game's great by me.

The changes they've done are far from minimal. Nomura wanted a trilogy. Now we have one game.

That's why I said, the changes "as far as we know".

From the information released to the public that was revealed ever since the days of Final Fantasy Vaporware XIII, not much has changed.

Cutting out the entire original opening and a full character are pretty drastic changed imo. Same goes with the battle system and cutting 4 playable characters down to one.

Minimal changes? In my opinion it went from a dark and mature world, inspired by Shakespeare, to a family friendly road trip.

I just want them to finally push this one out so we can get to FF16 in which I'm hoping is better than the last few FF games they made.

I don't expect anything from the game, I just hope it ends up being better than the XIII saga.

So yeah, you could say that I'm worried but I just don't care about the game as much as I do about Nier 2, DQ XI, and even KH3.
Cant be said better than this.except for DQ change that to FF VII

Which is what a mainline Final Fantasy is restricted to being forever.

Gotta appeal to everybody, so let's have Vaan show his abs.

And yeah, It definitely seems like it's suffering from design by committee and that's by far the biggest issue. The best FFs were created through a series of calloborstions and compromises between members and leads of dev teams that had a vision to see through to the end.

FFXV feels very much like a group of people trying to salvage some of Nomura's work (which in all honesty is probably not worth as much as anyone makes it out to be) and also produce a AAA game that has a chance at having some level of mass appeal.

As I always use this analogy, FF should be a well-crafted meal. XV looks and sounds more like a AAA hamburger every time they wheel it out.

And some people will like that. That could sell. That'd be good for SE. So again, it could be good, but it's not something I'm actively excited for in really any real way. At this point, I approach all of their streams with morbid curiosity, more so than anything else.
This is kind of spot on with how I feel. The original concept was cool, but it seems like it is being designed by a group of businessmen who don't know what they are doing, hence the constant polls. It could be that they are just wanting to make sure they don't make a mistake like they did with XIII, but after playing the demo, it kind of cooled my hype. The demo was fun, but a little bit bland and I think they should have held off on releasing it until it was in a more complete state.

Also the fact that it seems like the game was redesigned/rewritten to some degree after Tabata makes me feel like the version of the game we get will not actually have a long enough development time despite how long the game's concept has been around.

I hope that they have been keeping the good story bits under wraps on purpose. I mean, we know the concept of the story but we haven't really seen any real in game scenes to the current version of the game besides the initial action-packed re-reveal. We will see as the release draws nearer.

No. I replied above.
So, cutting Juliet from Romeo and Juliet, and then axing the latter 2/3rds of the story, and then changing the entire set up that leads into the events of the game, and then completely changing everything about the gameplay and the staff working on the game.

Those are all minimal changes, correct?

I just want them to finally push this one out so we can get to FF16 in which I'm hoping is better than the last few FF games they made.

As someone who has been playing since IV I must say this is the first game in the series that I have little hype for. I don't like the feedback from the fans method they are applying here (looking at any FF thread who the fuck knows what the fans want). Also don't like how they are using the husk of whatever Versus XIII was as starting point.

Right now all I have to go on is my lackluster demo experience. I look forward to how the combat shapes up because I found the demo to be clunky in that regard. And Dooskie felt kinda bland and uninteresting to explore.

I'll be happy to eat crow and this ends up being the most amazing FF experience of my life, but I guess I will just have to wait and see. Call me cautiously optimistic.

Yes, of course. You should be. Any game that's been in development for that long is bound to be ho-hum. See: DNF. At a certain point they have to throw their hands up and finish an outdated vision, just so it's done.

We dont' know that.

Not at all, i got tired of traditional jrpg, this sequel seems to be fresh, i've never missed a FF from VII, i'm looking forward to it

Throwing around insults is really uncalled for.
So Nomura wanted a trilogy, and Now its just one game , so far, thats far from a bad thing considering the development under him.

Not that the changes are minimal, far from it.
Far.
