Anyone else worried about Final Fantasy XV?

Cutting out the entire original opening and a full character are pretty drastic changed imo. Same goes with the battle system and cutting 4 playable characters down to one.

Star Ocean 5 has 7 by the way.

All controllable, all in the party at once.

All can be switched too on the fly.

Why no I'm not salty about this at all why would I be FUCK YOU TABATA

Any project that has director changes halfway through generally come out the worse for it. Plus the years of development hell won't help either. I'm not expecting as much as I was when it was announced as XV, but if I was then I would be a bit concerned yeah.

I'm not worried because I just don't care about it / have any expectations anymore. I mean, I'll still play it but I'm only really looking forward to the soundtrack.

Also the fact that it seems like the game was redesigned/rewritten to some degree after Tabata makes me feel like the version of the game we get will not actually have a long enough development time despite how long the game's concept has been around.
"To some degree" in this case means getting a new writer and completely rewriting the entire script of the game.

We dont' know that.

Didn't know you missed that.

tbf, Square is not really in a bad financial situation (they've been having quite a lot of profit, despite not even launching games lol).

Very worried.

1) I don't trust that SE can tell a good story anymore. I don't think they know what it means. FFXIII was so convoluted, lacked drama and character development as well as good characters.
I am afraid it will be a complex plot, with poor character development that has the characters changing behaviors randomly in a way that pulls you out of the game.

2) The game having been on the way for so long I worry that the gameplay systems are old.

3) I worry about Kingdom Hearts 3, but I believe KH3 has a better chance at being a good game than FFXV.

4) I'm afraid that most of the resources and effort is being put into the graphics and cinematics. Even if the combat and the level up systems turns out decently, I worry the surrounding game is compromised.

A game like Final Fantasy were story is so important is broken to me if the story is shit.

Yeah, this. The development hell and constant changes, I have little to no faith in this game turning out to be anything other than mediocre.

I have 0 hype for this game. main cast looks boring. Setting doesn't look promising, world looks dull. Gameplay doesn't strike me as something I want to play and frankly, after the entire XIII trilogy I have little hope. Only good thing is their tech and animation system that the game looks very nice so far. I really want to have a modern FF and this could have been it but so far no, not this way.

I don't know, this looks amazing to me.

I just hope there's a good balance between "fantasy" and "realism" in the game.

Meh i think its going to be at least a decent fun game, nothing special though.

Im looking forward mostly to the boss/summon battles, after playing mgs5 final boss im excited to see what SE can do with these battles in open world.

Yeah, the fact that Star Ocean is doing freaking 7 playable characters in the battle at once, while doing it seamless on the fly in the field kind of puts XV to shame. I hope they've made some big tweaks.

They should have gotten help from Tri-Ace on action battle systems for this game. I know Tri-Ace has helped out with grunt work on Final Fantasy in the past.

That's a huge assumption.
lmao.

Alright then. Juliet is actually Prompto.

Uhh, to be fair, that response from threelights came across as incredibly condescending and didn't serve any real purpose to advance the discussion in a meaningful way, only to agitate/instigate. The insult definitely could have been less called for.
Why would I want to have a discussion with the FFXV defense force?
I tried it multiple times already.

Now I just have fun in these threads. Last time I tried giving actual arguments people just said I was shitposting, so why would I care now? The only thing I'll pass by and say is to remind about the shit level design the game will have. Maybe someone from the team will read it.

Hey Tabata, level design ;)

I'm worried about it in the sense that a lot of fans of both the series and RPGs in general have put a lot of faith in this game bringing some much needed attention back to both. The more I learn about it the less likely I think that will happen, my expectations sinking every time I read about changes being made. That first trailer of Versus XIII years back showing the open world battles was probably where my interest in the game peaked and it's been all downhill from there.

That said, I haven't been following the game all that closely. Is there an up to date summary of the game's development up anywhere?

Don't worry. I'm used to dealing with people with a constant dark cloud raining over their heads. No big deal. :p

It's just shocking to see the same people going over FFXV threads to say how much the game will suck, how little hype they have for it, and much it will fail.

What joke though? I'm legit confused. All I see is them taking pics of rocks to add to their real life location collection to be used in the game.

In the next tweet they make fun of the people who took the original seriously, saying that "they had no idea there were so many fans of rocks".

Sorry, not the next tweet, but one that follows the original.

Okay, it doesn't matter the order of tweets. What matters here is the context of those tweets.

They were showing off their passion for using real world rocks in real world locations to use in the game. People made fun of them for prioritising rocks over getting the game done, so they tweeted in response to the mockery.

My only worry: A map filled with icons representing "content" a la modern open world game design. I'll be pleasantly surprised if they don't do this.

Other than that, I'm expecting mediocre combat, poor pacing, cringe-worthy writing, infuriatingly terrible voice acting, a confusing and unsatisfying plot, amazing visuals, mostly good art design, and a massive world that you can view but not interact with in any meaningful manner.

Expectations y'all. Learn to manage em!

Getting constantly worried about this game isn't healthy, so I have put it on the backburner. I think the game would just turn out mediocre in most aspects, and would ended up as a disappointing entry like XIII.

Hope Tabata prove me wrong.

Yeah, exactly! People were taking the rock tweet so seriously that they just decided to have a little fun.

The problem is that such notion is ridiculous. They are modelling rocks in order to get the game done. Taking pictures of rocks is not something they are doing for shits and giggles.

It's like if people bitched about Kojima "taking a vacation to NY for some bird-watching" while developing MGS2.

only thing you can do is lower your expectations

don't fall for the hype (Destiny,1886) and you won't be disappointed. don't anticipate 10/10 reviews 10+ years in the making does not mean is going be a perfect game

Well, I personally wouldn't be disappointed that it's not a trilogy anymore compared to Versus XIII. Ever since FFXIII, that term hasn't been a positive thing to me at all.

But yeah, I actually don't want to seem too negative about FFXV. I'm actually really excited for it, I just don't think I'll be playing it soon enough. Tabata is the same director as Type-0, right? I think Type-0 had more of the classic FF feel than even XIII, so I think it's in good hands.

I guess what surprises me most about Final Fantasy XV is how many people are calling it their most anticipated game of all time. I look at the footage and news we have of the game so far and I look at that statement and all I can think is... why, why would people be calling this their most anticipated game of all time.

Don't get me wrong, back in the PS1 days I was the biggest Square fanboy around. Final Fantasy VII was my favorite game of all time by far and I scooped up literally every Square game that came out. But the Square-Enix of today is not the same Square of yesteryear. They've (in my opinion) lost a lot of the magic that used to make them so untouchable, and have released plenty of poor games in the process.

Yet they still seem to command an unrelentingly rabid fanbase, particularly for the Final Fantasy titles. Don't get me wrong, I want Final Fantasy XV to be amazing and worth all the hype, I just haven't seen anything yet that suggests it will be.

what hype was there for the Order 1886? game ended up exactly how it looked in all previews.

I have literally never seen a person stating that.

Not saying there are no such people, but honest to God I have never seen a post like that on GAF, at least.

I honestly don't have much faith in this game anymore. The combat simply doesn't look engaging enough and the cast of characters doesn't appeal to me at all. At least we know that the game won't be a series of corridors...

Worried about the open world ruining everything. It really doesn't need to be open world at all considering the world (at least Duscae) is pretty bland.

I'm not worried that it'll be awful, Tabata has proven time and time again he's really good at making average, 7/10 games.

I don't think it'll be up the standard of quality of the first 12 games though. Even if Tabata was a visionary, he'd still have to wade through whatever hell modern SE is.

And yeah the battle system and open world look like they'll fall short of something like Xenoblade. I've accepted it.
