Anyone else worried about Final Fantasy XV?

If by worried you mean when the heck is it gonna be out then yeah, then I am, always. Even when I have it in my hands I'll be worried that Square Enix will come by and take the game back and say "just kidding".

Normally, a Final Fantasy would be my most anticipated game. This one is probably not even in the top 5 (and not at all because I don't think it will be good). Lowered expectations and will settle for a good jrpg with a gorgeous world.

Combat was different but with the tweaking they'll do I'm sure my issues will get resolved. At the very least it has enough going for it to stoke the flames of excitement.

Bring on Final Roadtrip Boyband Battle Armour shirtless Fantasy Edition XV.

Other than enemies having too much HP, I loved Duscae 2.0 and with the new improvements they've made since then, I doubt I'll have much issue with the combat.

As soon as it went from Nomura to Tabata, I was immediately worried. I personally haven't been a fan of any game he's been a director on. FF Versus XIII/FFXV originally had a darker tone to it when Nomura was director. But now, Tabata seems to have turned it into...I don't even know what to call it now. So it's gonna take a lot of good reviews and feedback to get me to purchase it. That's for sure.

The more I see and the more I hear, the less excited I am. I'm not even at the point of "worry" anymore. That would imply some grand investment that has slowly begun to drip away over the past few months.

eh, I have close to zero expectations for XV except for the soundtrack. I am worried about the combat and I don't like that the main group is only guys and no new cast members are added that aren't guest. If FFXV ends up being good I will be pleasantly surprised. If not, I'll be okay... Persona 5 is where it's at for JRPGs in 2016!!

What is there to be worried about exactly? That the game won't be good, and Square won't get another chance to disappoint us again since it lost so much money?

Seriously. It's not like Square is out there delivering on quality and their games aren't selling. If they can't put out good products, I don't see why I should want them to make more.

That being said, obviously Square has made some nice announcements recently regarding dedicated video game hardware and they have a new CEO who seems to be delivering. So if there really is a change over there for the better than it would be a shame if this remnant from the shit era is what puts them on mobile exclusively.

I think everyone should be a bit worried. This game went through a ton of iteration and reiteration. True development hell by the sound of it. I'm sure it still bears some scars from that whole process.

I gave up caring about the title again as soon as I found out that the E3 trailer wasn't even the actual game, rather a prototype before moving onto a new engine. I played the demo and it was fine, but I feel like this will be a game that'd be best to go into with low expectations.

The changes they've made don't really vibe with me as the 2008 trailer was the game I wanted. The more I see the game, the less it resembles what I wanted.

Anyway, as long as its better than 13, 12 and 10, I'm happy.

Best wishes.

You should probably take a look at Square Enix's latest financial report.

Yes. The more I see about the changes, the less I feel the game. I really liked the 2009 / 2011 stuff, the darker tone, the old stronger-looking Stellar, old Noctis Father etc. They changed it into a seemingly pretty light-hearted boyband roadtrip.

Pretty sure COD is not the audience the series has ever gone for. What's your point?

Toriyama to the rescue.

"The basic RPG functions are to go into towns, prepare for battle by going to shops, then go out in the field," Toriyama explained. "In that sense, Final Fantasy XIII doesn't have towns or shops—it's more that players are thrown into a story, presented with different situations as they move forward in the field and keep progressing that way."

"In that sense it's more similar to an FPS genre, like Call of Duty," he said.

----

Other than that, I'm expecting mediocre combat, poor pacing, cringe-worthy writing, infuriatingly terrible voice acting, a confusing and unsatisfying plot, amazing visuals, mostly good art design, and a massive world that you can view but not interact with in any meaningful manner.

Add poor quality quests to that list, and my expectations are similar.

To be fair Nomura has said the game was basically gonna be about the road trip and brotherhood and has said the trailers before hand didn't reflect that.

Having played FFXIII and FF Type-0 somewhat recently, my main concern is the storyline.

The story in those 2 games is so complicated to follow sometimes... I wouldn't mind something a little more light-hearted like FFIX (not really a good example... I guess Final Fantasy always had weird stories).

Anyways, 2020 can't come soon enough.

Don't really have any expectations for the game so it can only positively surprise me.

Think I'd be more hyped for a good FFXII remake or another story that took place in Ivalice.

What I've seen of FF XV seems alright though, hopefully there's way more to the game than they've shown.

It's just been dragged out in development for so long that my hype for it is nonexistent at this point. I couldn't care less about any news on it, but I know I'm 100% going to buy and play it when it releases.

I've always loved the art direction, music, gameplay, and overall grandeur of FF games, so I'm hoping it will at least scratch that itch, regardless of how it turns out. And so far from what I've seen i'm not too concerned.

Final Fantasy fans are so miserable. The game will be fine. They're holding back on revealing content for a reason. We haven't seen anything beyond the first 5 hours yet, I'm betting.

They've only shown us two summoned beasts, two bosses, and a few unnamed villains. We know very little of the kingdoms and their politics. There's still so much left for them to show us.

Not worried about combat myself. I already don't care much for the combat but it is something I accept and will play through for the story. As for the writing and story, I'm not worried either. I am pretty sure there are worse stories out there I've played and sat through and FFXV will be fine even if it is does not turn out to be great.

Final Fantasy was my favourite series for a long time, but Final Fantasy XIII was a good reminder that things change. I continue to enjoy the old games, and the (good) nostalgia spin-offs like Theaterhythm. If FFXV is a return to form, awesome. If not, there are other things to play.

All of that said, I will still be picking the game up. I'm just not following the media releases, or letting myself get hyped in any way.

Square hasn't exactly had a good record with Final Fantasy games lately. Really the only one worth a damn in the last decade was XIV, and even that one required it to be overhauled.

I will be pleasantly surprised if the game will be well written I'm not really worried about it overall though.
There's always Persona 5 :).

Final Fantasy XII was in the last decade. There were also some pretty good spin-off games released in that time frame.

I'm ok, only Final Fantasy I outright don't like is Final Fantasy 2, so there is a big chance I'll enjoy it.
It'll probably be plagued with «modern design» but hopefully the music, gameplay and characters carry it for me.

I honestly don't care about the game; will care about it when it finally comes out.

Its hard to care about a game that has been in the works for decades; it will never live up to the expectations that many people have set on it and it will likely be one of the most devisive FF titles (more so then FFXIII Trilogy) when it launches next year (IF it does).

That being said though, I am happy the game is a real thing now (two gameplay demos, lots of trailers, developers being open with its progress, ect) and I really hope it ends up being a great game.

I love the KH's series and whiles its combat system isn't mirroring FFXV's, elements from the games KH's origins and background are in FFXV and I am very excited to try out the combat mechanics when the game comes out.

It looks great, sounds amazing and the world looks outstanding in size & scale. The story is a big unknown but if its good enough, I will be happy with it.

Long story short, I feel that the game will be a good/great game when it comes out. But I expect it to get a ton of hate on Gaf and the gaming community in general when it comes out though. Would love to be surprised though and the game ends up being perfect :D!

Having just gotten around to playing the revamped demo this weekend (and posted semi-long impressions in that demo's OT) I am by no means worried about how it plays. I think it's super fun for an action RPG and if the game matches or exceeds the demo in terms of the content (and it pretty much has to, I'd imagine) it'll be great. This is from someone who was initially pretty down on the game being an action RPG and also someone who didn't care for the 1.0 version of the demo enough to even play more than a half hour.

So yeah, expecting it to be pretty rad.

I stopped worrying about the game a LONG time ago. Whether or not it's good... well, that's in God's hands, as they say.

I'll be all over it if is, but I've got nothing riding on it if it isn't.

Nah. I haven't enjoyed final fantasy in many a year. If this one doesn't turn out well, it'll be like just another day. But it looks like it's becoming something I would end up enjoying. So if it does, cool. If not, whatever.

I've been on a black-out for the most part for the game. I am looking forward to it and I think that it will be a great game, but it will have the nuances of the series as a whole; bad writing, questionable character design, and terrible pacing.

The biggest things I'm worried about are the battle camera and an unnecessarily large world with repetitive fetch quests. I'm seriously hoping that the fetch quests in the demo were just placeholder and not indicative of the quality of the quest writing in the final game, but it probably won't get much better.

Otherwise, I'm very confident in the game's production values and characterizations so far. The interactions between the characters have been stellar. Monster design and the architecture of some of the cities we've seen have also been fantastic.

Add poor quality quests to that list, and my expectations are similar.

Oh right. Quests. I wonder if they will mostly be of the fetch variety or kill x number of things variety as in MMOs. Either one would suck unless the combat is stellar.

Edit: I'm not sure why, but Bethesda games are almost completely fetch quests but they don't bother me as much in those games. Maybe because you can just kill anyone? Just kill the quest giver if the quest sucked. And there's probably zero chance a Final Fantasy game will let you do something like that.

Not worried at all.
I don't expect an other FFVII, I hope for a great JRPG with an interesting story and that's it.
I've enjoyed Episode Duscae, they needed to fix the camera and make the combat system less chaotic and more balanced but at the core it was good.
By the time the game is released it will get an extra 18 months of development compared to Duscae.
The problem I see is simply that some fans are rightly tired of waiting, since the Episode Duscae release the team has done a bad job at marketing, they have hyped really bland updates, they keep asking fans if they want to see cool things in the game without committing to them (airships, moogles and so on).
My impression is that they want to look like they listen to their fans but the actual result is that they look like they don't know what to do.
And last but not least there is a minority of fans that have lost faith in the project when they realized that this is not an other team finishing Nomura's job, but an other team trying to make their game using what Nomura had created but wasn't able to turn into a real game.

It's not worth thinking about too hard at this point. There's too much "this would've been so much better" and "it's so much better the way it is now" and not enough "hey, this game isn't out yet, let's ignore this awkward PR three-legged race involving Tabata believers and Nomura faithful and lets just close our minds until we have XV in our hands." At least that's what I personally want to do.
