Anyone had issues with cdkeys.com preorders?

JohnnyFootball

GerAlt-Right. Ciriously.
I preordered Wolfenstein New Colossus back on July 9th from cdkeys and still haven’t received my steam code. Emailed them once and they told me they had no record of my email address on file, despite the fact that I could log in with that email address and my order account shows my order. So I have all the proof I need to show I’m legit, when I responded back with a screenshot that had all my account/order information I never got a response. Note that that my order page does not have any links/screenshots to a key. I’ve checked over and over.

Just curious if anyone else has had issues with them?
I’m disappointed because they have a largely stellar reputation, but this was the first time I ever used them for preorders.

This may not help your case, but just want to note the key comes in the order email. Did you receive that? There's a download link that takes you to a screenshot of the key.

This. They never sent me an update, but the link that they initially gave me was updated with a steam key.

Isn't cdkeys.com some super shady grey market reseller? I am not surprised if you are having issues based on what I've heard of them

i had the same issue yesterday, wherei oredered the game and my key wasnt showing up. i emailed them and they fixed it for me.

edit: to the poster above, what have you heard? and from what? grey market keys is what they have yes, but ive bought over 70 games off of them this month alone and i havent gottten a single issue with them besides yesterday, which was with wolfenstein 2 and i believe it is with that game alone from what ive been seeing and it was solved in less than 15 minutes with an email.

They're not "shady". People haven't had issues with them, they're not comparable to kinguin/g2a where your keys have a chance to get revoked due to payment fraud (from the sellers).

cdkeys.com get their keys from boxed copies via very cheap regions. That's why you get scans of the codes. Their support is pretty good. I've had two issues (out of many orders) and were resolved quickly with no effort from my part.

They are grey market technically because they're not authorized to sell them and they are indeed abusing region prices, but tbh most publishers are wising up and region locking anyways. But I've never had a key revoked, again because it's from boxed copies.

So personally, considering they probably weren't stolen (that isn't a sustainable business, they've been running for many years now) and paid for via cheaper prices, I'll take $30-$35 release prices over $60 any day. Moral issues are there, but at the end of the day, you'd be delusional to think publishers/big game companies also don't abuse any of that at all.

Besides, again they have an option to resolve this, region lock all games going forward and most people can't buy them, non-issue.

They never emailed me that my key was ready from a preorder, I had to track down the email that had the link to the page that had my key.

iirc they have illegal keys.

please correct me if im wrong.

The keys are acquired legally, but they're not provided by publishers; instead, they're taken from retail copies purchased in bulk. That's why there's inconsistency with regard to pre-order bonuses and also why pre-orders are generally fulfilled no earlier than around a day before release.

Never preordered a game from them but whenever I buy from them I get the key within seconds usually. Its a link that takes you to a screenshot of the key.

I was not provided an update email ala GreenManGaming style, but the link in my initial receipt was updated with a key. Check there.

I opened a ticket this morning with them. This is the first time I haven't received a key on time. I ordered Wolfenstein back in September.

Ah okay. I retract "shady" as long as the "grey market" label is still applied. Hadn't heard they buy physical copies to get the keys. (Though I'm surprised all games are legally released in the cheaper regions.)

This is how my cdkeys come in the confirmation email:

I ordered it about a month ago and was able to follow the link in the original receipt e-mail to get the key last night. Never got any notices from them but I figured I would check the site. As far as I know that is how to find the keys since I had overlooked it before on a previous order and their site just lists the orders and no key/download info if I recall.

I see where you said you never got the link e-mail. Based on my previous orders it is in the confirmation e-mails for the order. Hmm wonder if the order number shows up in your account and can be referenced to them?

On this game they seem to be having issues with some keys. They sent out some people German (censored) keys. I've contacted them about it, but not heard back yet. I'd confirm with them that you want a worldwide key if you want to get a game where you can shoot nazis.

This is out of the ordinary for them, their service is usually extremely reliable.

Open a ticket and provide as much proof as you can, they should contact you back in a few hours.. At least that was in my case when my key did not show up

I pre-ordered Tekken 7 PC with no problems. I've also bought several games from them with no problems over the past year or 2.

Sounds like there is some weird issue with your cdkeys account. I hope you can get things resolved soon and enjoy the game.

This is how it should go normally then.

Wolfenstein was my first cdkeys preorder. It went all smooth, it was not necessary to get in contact with them

Oh man this is what puts me off cd keys. Especially if you may now end up with a key to a copy of the game where you dont even fight Nazis (whole point of the game, but of course its censored in Germany and CD keys apparently deal with cheaper region keys)

No one wants a german copy of wolfenstein 2

That’s what I am doing. My only concern is that I have little means to prove that I am not trying to scam them.

For all they know, I received a key, used it, and am trying to claim I never received it. To the best of my knowledge, there is no way to determine if a key has been used or not without actually using it.

My hope is that they assigned me a key, they resend it and I go about my merry way.

First time buying from them. Still haven't gotten my Wolfenstein II key.

Not a good first impression. At the very least, I will be extremely hesitant to give them my money a second time in the future.

Check your order confirmation email. There should be a download link there underneath the name of the game. Click that and it will take you to your key.

I've made more than a dozen purchases from CDkeys, but only one pre-order (Dishonored 2). Never had any problems so far, but I've never pre-order a game a few months before release.

As others have said, even on pre-orders, once you make an order you'll receive an order confirmation in your email (it's a receipt). The key is a link in that email. You receive this email the second you make the order, pre-order or not.

It is dumb that you can't view your keys while logged in on their site. You HAVE to have that initial email that you received when you place your order as that's where the key is.

Thank you! I searched for my original order email and the link was there with the image of the key.

Huh.

I guess that raises a different question: why can't you access that through Account -> My Orders ? That's really weird site design.

Support took over 9 hours to reply to me and got me my wolfenstein pre order code 30 min before it unlocked. 95% of the time I don't have issues with cdkeys and early pre orders. Just a hiccup it seems with wolfenstein in particular.

Probably just a one off experience because I have never had an issue myself or no anyone personally who has had one, support has been great and they always delivered on the purchase.

The first email I sent them, I got a response in 3 hours. They told me they had no record of my account or order, which I found strange because they get that information on the tech support sheet and given that I can still log into their website with my account info.

Anyway I responded to that email with a screenshot of my account page that showed proof of purchase early yesterday morning and never got a response.

So today I went and sent a follow up email using their help desk and am hoping that info will help me.

yea i get keys from there regularly but that design is just baffling. Almost lost the destiny 2 key because i deleted the confirmation email (thankfully gmail saves deleted mails for up to 2 months). They really need to fix this and put the keys on your account page.

Cdkeys is the only place I go for my pc games they do the best deals an I use em all the time not had any issues thus far.

Been using them for years now.

Compared to Kinguin?

I used to use these grey market sites... then steam launched in my region officially in local currency. No stuff is mostly so cheap that these sites are expensive.

This. It's always amusing buying a key from them, and receiving a grainy jpg of the code printed on a slip of paper.

As for the TC... no, never had an issue. For the few preorders I've done through them I've gotten my code a few days ahead of release (most recent was Deus Ex MD I believe).
