Aonuma: Zelda Wii U will challenge series conventions.

That's so true. You'd think with a near infinite budget and more time than most other games in development they'd take the time to create more monsters.

Yeah, it was pretty much several variations of Bokoblins, the 3 Robots, and 3 element variations for the rest of the crew.

With the wii U zelda most likely not emphasize swordplay as much as SS... what will it focus on?

Skywards Shield?

This link has swordphobia. But he's still a badass. Captain America Link could work. Just make sure you don't bring that wooden shield to the fire dungeon!

To be honest, all they need to do is fix the precision of your sword movements. Everything else was a step above. Also, everyone can speak in the next Zelda. Everyone but LINK

I'm not opposed for Skyward Sword's gameplay to be adapted to a multi-player action RPG. 3D Zelda with 4 Swords elements and Skyward Sword's player progression based on gear upgrades (rather than stats).

There are similar games already but Zelda would wouldn't try to be so flashy (though I know part of the appeal of this kind of game is showing off).

Of course, there'd be an entire single-player adventure as well.

It would be nice if Nintendo didn't feel they need to tell me what something does every single time I pick that item up. I'm aware of how much the different coloured rupees are worth.

Get rid of this. It's all I ask.

Shit. It's really happening. Monolithsoft is going to turn Zelda into a full blown RPG. Fuck. :(

Actually, a game that's basically Zelda 1 and Xenoblade swirled together in a blender would be amazing. Huge, expansive, immersive world with little direction other than "Explore!", nicely populated towns with personality and side quests, and non-linear dungeon order. Do it Nintendo!

They said the same thing for SS and...well...I love SS and it does challenge some Zelda conventions, but it is still saddled with a lot of the problems they really should fix by now.

Basically I'll believe it when I see it.

they should give link a gun and an electric guitar that lets him change junk and also summon epona the motorcycle.

I'm sure this has been brought up before... Wouldn't it be great if there is voice acting but all of the voice actors have to speak a made up language? That'll screw over the people that only wanted voice acting because they're too lazy to read while (possibly) maintaining the essence of the game. I'd be happier with that than having to choose between two sets if voice actors like in Xenoblade.

I really don't care if they "challenge series conventions". I just want them to:

  • Finally add voice acting... please? Grunts and jibber-talk give the game a childish presentation, and not in a good way.
  • Go back to giving the player a large seamless world to traverse. Give a boat, horse or airship for those tired of long treks.
  • Stop with the prequels and continue forward from Zelda II (or at least from Spirit Tracks so it's not the same boring Hyrule). The past is just too convoluted now.
  • Take cues from the Beyond Good and Evil 2 team, and travel to locations to get inspirations of culture for the games inhabitants. A town like Tibet, sweet! A town on the lake made of boats like Hong Kong harbor, awesome! An cold Inuit like village, nice!

Boom... amazing Zelda.

again? haven't they said this same thing in early interviews for the last 4 games?

it wouldn't make a difference since people will react the same way. half will say it is the same shit as the first game while the other half will say they changed it too much.

They'll probably turn the series into an MMO for the Wii-u like Dragon Quest. Wouldn't be surprised if Donkey Kong became an MMO as well.

The frustrating thing about recent console Zelda games, for me, isn't that they stick to conventions too closely. Instead, they come to being outstanding, only to be dragged down (slightly) by one or two glaring flaws. Wind Waker was amazing... but it also clearly could have used more dungeons (instead of
a Triforce hunt
). Skyward Sword is amazing... but it really could use less filler and an option to disable all of the hand holding and puzzle spoiling.

Basically, I have no problems with the core formula (given the large amount of time between Zelda releases), but Nintendo has made some unfortunate errors when applying it.

Play as one of the races in the Zeldaverse, and I mean actual characters, and not just assuming their look and traits as Link

I can't wait for this time next year when people can stop pretending that SS was anything but fantastic. Series needs to shake a few things up, for sure, but SS ended up doing so much right.

It's honestly mind boggling when people say it's another OoT clone.

You know what would be really really cool? If nintendo actually did release a futuristic zelda...but didn't openly reveal it was a part of the zelda mythos. They could call it Legend, though perhaps that's a bit on the nose.

I'd still want my traditional sword swinging zelda too though.

I'd love if they could hand this game off to a different studio for a change, heck even Tokyo EAD to keep it inside the company. I love SS so very much, but the thing is that I can't see Zelda team doing much past it except adding new gimmicks.

The series really either needs to end or they need to get some fresh blood on it. Skyward Sword was DEFINITELY a step in the right direction though. It felt like the first NEW zelda game since MM.

It's really not. Skyward Sword reminds me alot more of Wind Waker than OOT. With the sword chimes, fighting style, music, sky "hub", and character development, even Beddle's Shop. While it's true that OOT was the predecessor for TP/WW/SS, SS/WW took a much different path than TP, which was more of just an advanced continuation

All those concepts are terrible.

And changing up the concept =/= changing up the game. Gameplay is more important here, not setting.

*hipster glasses* ugh that is everything that is wrong with "steampunk" these days. Its all about corsets and goggles and sticking random gears onto things that don't need them.
