I know that, but how much of iTMS is it? Does it offer podcast subscriptions?

This hasn't been covered, but it's really a no brainer. If they don't offer this, I'll do something horrible (but I won't cancel my preorder).

So wait, i just have two questions.

1. 16Gb iPod touch...is it flash or hdd?

2. I know the wifi will let me check out iTunes wirelessly...but more importantly, can i browse GAF? i hope it has a web browser...

I only know what my broker tells me, and that is what he said when I asked him earlier about the big drop. He said not to worry as they're at 106 and it wont get close to that.

So it's the good one, whatever it is.

you managed to sell an apple put @ 106 to someone for 130 bucks per lot :lol

you took someone to the cleaners.. they would have to drop 40% for you to lose money.

i really wouldnt worry at all.

Damn dude, go to apple.com. Not trying to be insulting, but seems you have no clue as to what the Touch is. That site has a nice video to show you everything the touch can do.

http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/

If they'd just put WiFi in a device that's practical I'd be tempted to get one of the iPod Classics. Touch is so completely needless and I've been filling 30gb MP3 players for about 4 years. I don't see how a touch screen helps me when I barely take an MP3 player out of my pocket and just want to feel a button to skip a track.

And is it just me or do the Classic iPods not look as good anymore? Maybe they're better in person but that finish on the front looks pretty bland.

thanks for the video! i don't really have a clue, i was *trying* to browse endgadget on my cell phone at work. i just got home, so i'm out of the loop. i definatley think i'm going to sell my zune though and put it towards a touch.

They've always looked bland - its just that everything else looked about the same level of blandness so you never noticed.

What is with this "you have to pay TWICE for a ringtone" bullshit? Who the fuck buys ringtones anyway? :lol

And I heard all this stuff about making "any part of the song" as your ringtone. What is this? 1998? Nobody knows how to Google "music editor" or something?

My 30GB iPod video will be the very last thing I buy from Apple. That price drop for the iPhone is complete insanity (thank God I forced myself not to get one :lol). I fucks with Apple no more.

seriously, I dont know anyone who pays for music.

since my T610 years ago, I have been using atleast 800 different ringtones overtime, havent payed a cent to make those ringtones (unless you count electric bills and time)

Pretty much. I looked at my 30GB Video today and damn it looks stone-age. Well, in comparison to the Touch. Touch is good.

The 5G iPods are pretty sexy IMO. They went wrong this time with the rounded front and simple anodized aluminum. The hard edges and glossy front of the 5G look leagues more classy. The 6G looks about $100 cheaper than it really is.

I've made some headway. To recap: I've got a three day old iPhone and would sorely like to see $215 back.

Notes:
1. Customer relations (via 1-800-My-Apple) will do you no good if you purchased in-store to be refunded the difference. They tell you that you must return to the store you purchased it, with receipt. [we bought it from a wireless POS, so we don't have a paper receipt; blech.]

2. Fearing that this would turn out the same way every time Apple call center tells me I need to go into the store (e.g. badly), I did some hunting and actually found Apple Legal's copy of the statement that should be printed on the back of the receipt. [though obviously not printed on mine, since all we've got is an e-mail with an attached PDF.] For the record, the 14-day Price guarantee can be found here: http://www.apple.com/legal/sales_policies/retail_us.html

3. Pretty sure everything will go fine in store and I'll get my difference back. I'm just really frustrated that the Apple retail experience lacks any sort of synergy between the online store staff, the retail staff, and their policies. For a company that prides itself in "universal experience" across so many different touch points in our lives, their retail experience is sorely lacking in this regard.

Rant: As much as I love Apple's products and the quality of their service center's repairs, I've never loved the way I've been treated by sales or support people in stores. The only good experiences I've had were by finding the most pretentious genius working at a particular store and stroking his ego a bit in order to get straight answers or fast-tracked for a repair. Hell, I had to buy ProCare just to get them to listen to me about one of my MacBook's fried logic board.

Yea, that part was pure shit. First off, you can't just pick any song, it has to be an "eligible" song. Then you have the privilege of giving Apple money for using 30 seconds of a song you've already bought.

Or you could just do what everyone does and run App Trap Installer.app, get Installer.app on your iPhone, and go to town adding whatever ringtones you want.

Note that iPhoneDisk (a MacFUSE FS) is glorious for transferring files to the iPhone over USB once it's been jailbroken/unshackled.

C'mon... It's hideous.

iPod touch is pretty much the nicest looking MP3 player I've ever seen, but 16 gigs is a no go for me :/

Yeah, but how much is that going to cost, and can you even use the full functionality of such phone in Canada (internet, wireless itunes store, etc)

Staying with my current one (80GB 5.5GB) for now, but that 160GB has me horny.

It sucks, because the iPod Touch has the ability to disable repeat/shuffle whenever, unlike the others ones. But it still lacks tactile feedback to use when at my belt. I'll keep an eye on the homebrew, to see if it'll sway me, but until then, it just isn't ideal.

I'll probably pick up a new Shuffle this Xmas, though. I still have a first generation 1/2GB stick model.

I saw that the iTunes screenshot on the Apple page showed some statistics, but I didn't see it in the update I downloaded. Hell, I didn't see A difference in the update I downloaded. (Nevermind, it was some program called MoneyWell on the downloads page that looked exactly like iTunes)

So lets say my 2G Nano was damaged beyond repair and I have the protection coverage from Best Buy on it, will I get one of these new PHAT nanos?

And yet it still manages to look better than the black to me... why did they feel the need to ditch the slick finish of the 5G?

80 gig Classic or 16 gig Touch? If I get the Touch I'm probably going to have to skim down my music collection, but the Classic looks hideous in comparison... Damn you Apple!

Its it silver fleck, or gray matte?

Also, Why doenst the Ipod Toouch have weather, maps, or notes? It has Wifi right? Seems like a simple ping back to where ever its being hosted wouldnt be that much trouble. But I guess that would make it a PDA then eh?

Not for a good long while. Even when Apple was on the 5G, they kept replacing my 3G with other 3G's. They keep those things in stock for a good long while so you can't upgrade discontinued hardware.

Apple has old iPods to spare, dude. For years.

Apologies for not reading through this entire thread (it practically doubled in size since I last checked), but can anyone tell me WHEN these are going to be available?

Everything shipped today, except the iPod touch, later this month.

Stores should have nano's and classic by this weekend.

Touch not till end of month..

Online is taking preorders for Touch, while Nano's and Classic ship in 1-2 days.

So looking around the thread.. I noticed only a few posts really mentioning differences in the Iphone and Ipod Touch..

What are the main differences other then size and 802.11 support?

Will the Ipod Touch be like a small PDA essentially? I dont care for phone features, but a calendar and being able to update like maybe weather or something via each dock or whenever near a 802.11 hotspot would be nice.. I can picture mods coming out for the Ipod Touch that can do this as well.. but any help from veterans would be nice..

I have never owned an Ipod.. :o (I know .. freak i am!)

The iPod touch is missing all the communication apps, including email. No notes, no weather, no stocks, and no Google Maps. No camera, and I'm not sure, but I think it is also missing the external speakers.

But you get double the storage.

Thanks for the info, guys. One more question: any side-by-side comparison pics of the previous Nano and the new Nano?

I have an 8GB Nano and an 80GB iPod Video (both from earlier this year) so it's hard to justify buying any of the new stuff right now but dammit my gadget geek genes are making this hard to resist...

If the new Nano is a lot thinner/lighter, that might be enough to convince me......maybe......

Well... the iPod Touch does not have the phone portion, SMS texting, the built-in camera, an email application, Stocks, Google Maps, Weather, Notes. On the outside, the iPhone has a speaker that can also play music, a volume up/down button on the side so you don't have to turn on the screen, no bluetooth. I think that's about it. Without Mail I don't think you'd be able to view Excel docs or PDF attachments as you can with the iPhone.

Mods will be a definite. Though IMO the mods out thus far for the iPhone are spotty in terms of quality. It's more of a PDA than the iPod is, but it's still more of a PDA "lite."

You know, I'm gonna pass on this for another 4-5 months. The iphone just dropped $200 that quick and this touch ipod seems more like a stopgap/bad deal with the classic getting a HUGE HDD boost like that.

The next thing I buy from Apple will either be:
- A 16GB+ iPhone
or
- A 32GB+ iPod touch

SUCH BULLSHIT.

I actually only feel like the notes and google maps are the only two things I care about.

I would think the touch would be fine for you then. You still get the browser, and the browser gets you anything else you need as long as you're near a hotspot.
