Eh, I have some coats with some big interior pockets, but you're right likely not 8-inches wide. It almost looks like he pulls it out of his waistband, looking at it again. *shrug* Whatever!

I know that you can never predict what's going to happen next (especially with a company like Apple) but I wouldn't be surprised if something like that is down the line especially to resurge desktop computer sales.
It actually wouldn't be a bad thing to have for kiosks, interactive satations etc,Burger said:It will likely be a large touchpad to plug into your computer, enabling a full suite of multitouch gestures.
Why anyone would build a touchscreen desktop computer for general computing is beyond me. Your arms would get tired in about 15 seconds.
I see all these HP/Acer touchscreen iMac ripoffs, and I can't help but wonder... why ?

The Examiner has a pretty interesting iPad story for us today. According to their sources, the iPad will reach Apple Stores for employee training on March 10th. On March 15th, the television commercials (remember the one filmed in a diner in California?) will air. Then on March 26th, iPad sales will open to the public of the Wifi version. 3G versions will follow in late April or May.
That all seems to mesh with us and we've heard repeatedly that the release date would be March 26th, barring any unforeseen delays. They conclude with this little tidbit: People who camp out for the iPad lauch will receive a "special gift."

Macrumors said:iPad Suppliers Dispute Claims of Shortages at Launch
Earlier this week, research analyst Peter Misek of Canaccord Adams claimed that a "manufacturing bottleneck" at Apple's manufacturing partner Foxconn/Hon Hai Precision would result in constrained supplies (300,000 versus a rumored planned 1,000,000) of the iPad at its launch later this month. The report had also suggested that the shortages could be severe enough to result in a delayed launch, although an Apple spokesperson quickly denied that claim.
DigiTimes today reports that Foxconn's suppliers for the iPad are seeing no changes to their delivery of components for the device and expect that Foxconn will be able to ship 600,000-700,000 units this month and an additional one million units next month.
"In response to reports that initial volumes of Apple's iPad in late March will be lower than originally planned and the launch will be only in the US market because production by Foxconn Electronics has been delayed, Foxconn's component suppliers have said their supplies are on schedule and Foxconn should be able to ship 600,000-700,000 iPads in March and one million units in April."
While Foxconn refused to comment on the reports, supplier sources also confirmed that there should be no launch delay for the device.

BTW, now I want, nay NEED to buy an iPad for myself! Yes, that's right. You heard me. Let me tell you how I came to this realization:
It was Starbucks Santa Monica, couple of Sundays ago. I was doing some concept/ideation sketches for work on my Tablet PC. The project required a bunch of reference stuff, and I was going back and forth from reference on the web, and Painter X window. It was obnoxious. I also had some print outs of the reference so I ended up getting those out of my backpack and spread them all over the table. A big mess.
I was thinking at that point, "Boy, wouldn't it be great if I had a light, thin and large screen slate with good battery life that I can put all my reference stuff on so that I can just keep the Painter open on my Tablet PC while I sketch..." And then it hit me like a ton of bricks: "HOLY SHIT, I NEED THE iPAD!!!!".
That's right. The iPad would be the perfect support device for my Tablet PC! I can keep all the reference and web stuff going on it, and concentrate all the sketching on the Tablet PC! It's too perfect! A genius solution! It's almost as if Steve Jobs made the iPad for me and me alone for this exact purpose!!
As soon as iPad hits $200, it's mine.![]()

BTW, you guys are taking my comment the wrong way! I'm saying that Apple built in a lot of room for price reduction on the iPad (there was a report about that). So I think it will be easy to find an iPad for $200 in short amount of time! It won't be from Apple, but I think it will be easy to find a used one for $200 in around a year. By then, Apple would be selling the $500 one for around $300~350 IMO.
I think in a year, Apple will refresh the range with better specs and the older model will get heavily discounted. That's what I'm going to aim for anyways.LCfiner said:I remember that article. I still think 300 to 350 for a new iPad next year isnt going to happen.
My guess: The 3G models will see 50 to 100 dollar price drops. the wi-fi models will drop ~50 bucks each and get double the storage for each price.
thats assuming the price drops at all. If sales are brisk, Apple wont even bother.

All I'm looking for is a large and light LCD display with long battery life, image viewer, and web browser. I don't care who gives it to me as long as it's cheap! If the iPad can full fill that role, that's great, but I don't think I'm going to bend over backwards to make sure that it's iPad that does the role for me, you know what I'm sayin' homey?LCfiner said:aw cmon :lol bringing clones into this isnt worthwhile. Im basing my conservative pricing estimates based on their iPod model. they rarely keep older models around except for the refurb page where they cut ~15% off the price. Its possible that theyll shake things up with the iPad but Im not counting on it.

SuperPac said:It's not necessarily locked to AT&T, except the fact that AT&T's the only US carrier that'll be offering Micro-SIMs and apparently the iPad's 3G is a different frequency than other carriers. So... it's more or less AT&T or nothing. That's my understanding, anyway. But you are NOT required to buy a contract. It's $15/250MB or $30/unlimited a month, and you can start/cancel anytime (at least that's my understanding).
SuperPac said:apparently the iPad's 3G is a different frequency than other carriers.
maharg said:This seems extremely unlikely. The bands for the carriers are pretty much set in stone and there's no room to just add more. Spectrum costs massive amounts of money and there's very little of it for sale anyways.
The generic clones from Asia, sure. But this isn't going to be the iPhone again where Apple can rule the category for a few years.LCfiner said:aw cmon :lol bringing clones into this isnt worthwhile. You just know the software on those things is gonna be garbage.
