Make it run something useful, like Windows 7. Then we'll talk.

Oh, and the Courier will totally kick this things ass.

A small macbook with a swivel screen would have been nice.

Ding Ding Ding, yessir.

Fuck this impractical shit. People are just gonna get it to have it, which is fine if that's what they want to do.

I want something bigger than an ipod for things like this:

(put any book/comic instead of one piece XD)

I was on the fence until this photo, you are a good salesman.

Wow at the comic book photo, that might actually capture some people if they play it up right.

Strike a deal with marvel or an American Manga-based publisher.

Is this capacative? Toes it require the touch of flesh?

An apple tablet that you could do good precise art on would have been nice
this is the only reason i would buy it, if it has it

On apple's part it's kinda brilliant really. Imagine how little R&D and stuff they had to do to create this, yet rabid fans will snap it up.

Sounds very evil-nintendo-y. The apprentice has become the master.

So wait, it's essentially Apple Kindle?

Nope. Since it isn't E-ink. Hell my coworker was like "I can get this for my husband instead of kindle" To which I had to explain the whole point of a ereader.

Makes you wonder why it took so long to unveil. Hai guyz, we haz a hueg iPod Touch! I'll have to watch the presentation, but upon first glance this doesn't seem to fill any need in their catalogue.

Not buying it, dont see the point.

If it had stylus support, I might bite, but otherwise the Microsoft alternative seemed much more promising and innovative.

But it more or less fills the same niche? I mean, yes you can browse the internet on it, but it seems kinda pointless with only wifi.

Sad that it's running something like the ipod touch os instead of a real mac osx. Don't know what to think yet.
I dont think its meant to be a computer. It looks like a mass market media device like the iPod. 1Ghz just isn't enough for Mac OS Snow Leopard.

As I said on the other thread, this is the announcement that will separate Apple Fans from Apple Fanboys.

Unless the price is magical, this thing is a huge dud.

I had said:
These do make nice manga readers though. At 1.5lbs, it's gonna be a breeze to hold, but (a) how hot will it get and (b) just how much will it cost? I feel like it's an oversized iPhone right now. PEACE.

Price will make or break this thing IMO. Then again, I've underestimated Apple fanboys before. How much are Kindle and Sony's offering? It'll cost more than those, but better cost less than a MBP. PEACE.

At first I thought Steve Jobs shrunk and was holding a new model iPhone. Then I was like... OOOOOOOK...

iPad, really, ehh we'll see what the price point is on this. My guess over 1k.

Seriously, I see your point but I fail to understand how a lacking feature can be "good". At best you don't care.

If you're going to try to sell me something the size of a laptop, it damned well better have a fully featured web browser. What advantage does this have over the Touch?

As someone that owns a netbook and an iPhone, I just don't see the point of this. Maybe... maybe... it'd be good for e-books? But... I could get a better e-reader for way less? : /

This product would seem especially unnecessary if it ends up being priced in the $500 to $600 range, because at that point, yeah, it's roughly the price of a netbook and an iPod touch for people that *don't* have them already.

I think the whole 'no flash' thing is purely because the hundreds of free flash games would greatly impact the app store. No?

Exactly.

There is nothing else this size that dosen't have flash. It doesn't matter if you never want to use it; if you end up wanting to at some point, you can't. At least until support is added.

Besides, there are roughly 3.4 zillion flash games out there, many of which are enjoyable.

Though I haven't finished reading (thanks for the link btw),what I see here is a commercial war. What does it add to his point?
That there are huge, glaring drawbacks if Flash was allowed.

For whatever reason this doesn't appeal to me in the least. I have an iphone and love it, but what are you supposed to do with this thing? It's big enough that you might as well carry a laptop around.

Much like the iPhone and iPod Touch before it, the jaw is dropping at the amount of stuff the neat, tidy, sexy and small device can do.

However, in this case all I can forecast is a severe neck-ache. iWork looks amazing but it seems like a no go to me. I don't see how I could spend more than five minutes with this thing on my lap, my hands typing stuff at the bottom and my head looking down at the screen at the same time. I can predict agony the next morning.

Yeah.
But it remains a flaw. I mean, it's ok, maybe apple don't want his browser to crash...so it lacks an important feature for what is claimed to be an actual web browser.
I did not know anything about this story, but it shows that the problem is way deeper, and harder to tackle for Steve.

I have never seen this argument made before.

I have to imagine that the reason I have never seen it made before... is that it is insane.
The simplest argument in favor of Flash support on the iPhone (and The Tablet, and everywhere) is that Flash is, by dint of its popularity and ubiquity, part of the web. But the best argument against Flash support is that it is harmful to the web as a whole to have something as important as video be in the hands of a single company, and the only way that’s going to change is if an open alternative becomes a compelling target for web publishers.

Too late. We don't have a choice anymore. Not including flash on this tablet and never including it in Mobile Safari is not going to keep it from being used.

Besides... I don't think any number of drawbacks can keep the benefits from outweighing them. For any amount of problems Flash is both practical and useful.

I'm actually a bit disappointed. Was really thinking this was going to be revolutionary, but it's not massively different from an iPhone with certain Mac elements thrown in. I'm suprised by only a 1gig processor and all the lack of OLED screen (those rumours that 'you can't get a 10" OLED screen for love nor money' turned out to be hooey). Looks like theres still no proper multi-tasking and no stylus, kind of weird to have a pad, but no 'pen' so to speak. As it stands Microsoft's courier is looking like the real revolutionary product, but without Apple's cool factor and a huge marketing push i'm not sure if it'll get the attention it deserves. I was also expecting some really cool iPhone/iPad integration, kind of like those Microsoft Surface videos where you could put your iPhone on top of your iPad and it would automatically allow you to pull out photos from your phone, media, contacts e.t.c. No camera either. Makes me think that the iPhone 4 isn't really going to be hugely different from it's predecessor either - i guess the 'don't fix it if it ain't broken' mantra applies, but i kind of expected more.

Apparently it has some art drawing apps... still not sure of a stylus, not watching a live video or anything.

A stylus would be great. Different styluses (and brushes) would be even better.
