Also, here's how iPad Safari handles multiple select elements.

Javascript animation still seems slow, unfortunately. Using any kind of jQuery lightbox, you get a stuttering animation. If you close and reopen a lightbox, it animates a bit faster. The weird thing is that the animation may be choppy, but the lightbox does open fast.

I don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but won't the lack of a precise input option hinder the browsing experience? It's still okay for phones because we're sort of used to a compromise solution (which may or may not include optical touchpads and trackballs), but needing constantly to press small buttons or text with our fingers (which might also require another zoom in step) can't be that great of a browsing experience. The web isn't really designed for touch interfaces after all.

My guess is we're gonna start seeing iPad-specific website design soon after it comes out. (IMO) One thing that the iPhone has started to do with the web is that it's forcing developers to really have their markup and CSS in order so that their websites can scale to the iPhone; and now a lot of other mobile devices. I'm sure if the iPad takes off the same'll happen,

A quick look at videos in iPad Safari. This is off the iPad's official website. Works flawlessly.

Page loaded

Video playing with beautiful, simple overlay. Supports fast, half-speed, slow scrubbing.

Video playing in fullscreen. Overlay controls has a big, empty gap, likely for chapters. You can enter fullscreen by touching the fullscreen button or using the pinch gesture on the video as it plays.

If you zoom in on the page when the video is playing, the video doesn't zoom in. It maintains it's size. Nice!

I wouldn't worry about it. Sure, there will be iPad formatted websites, but browsing "regular" websites is pretty simple. And from what I've read/heard, the iPad's screen is incredibly sensitive, powered by smart software. Like the iPhone, I'm sure it "knows" where you're trying to tap. And, considering the iPad has a fast processor, double-tapping an area where a link is to enlarge it should be snappy.

After browsing on the iPhone for a few years now, I can't wait for the iPad. It feels like the web was made for it. It's going to be great.

iPad SDK Support for Front Facing Camera, Camera Flash, Zoom and Video Conferencing

Unfortunately, we already know how this story ends. Apple introduced the iPad in late January and made no mention of a camera - either on the front or back of the device. So that means no video conferencing or even photos are possible on the first generation device.... and yet, it seems like they had everything in place for it already. For example, the enclosure has an empty space for the camera and the SDK has accept/decline video chat references.

Damnit.

Also, here is a video of just general testing of the iPhone OS in iPad. Shows off Safari and Photos.

Does the simulator have an accurate depiction of what the graphics power should be? The iphone can't handle a thread full of gif avatars, or even the funny gifs thread. it just comes to a halt. Can u take a video of a page like that?

So, what does everyone think now? A feature that'll be in the retail release of the iPad that was left out of the reveal because it wasn't ready, or something that is blatantly being held back for a iPad G2?
This.

Desmond is Steve Jobs confirmed?

But seriously I'm loving Safari the more and more I see it. I love the idea of viewing the full version of NeoGAF and not needing to use the (albeit excellent) NeoGAF iPhone web app.

The weird thing is: why would they be putting this *now* in SDK updates, if the functionality will only be available in a G2 device, likely a year from now?

Webcam is now the new Flash Tobor. just try to tune it out.
I'm not trying to tell anyone what they should want, I'm just curious. Maybe it's a bigger deal with the younger folks.

looks great.

I just want to know how it handles multiple tabs (pages, whatever). do they continue to load in the background when I kick them off? Can I open a link in a new tab/page without giving it focus?

Mobile Safari does that now, you just need the extra ram in the 3GS to take advantage of it.

Nope. That bar is reserved for bookmarks. They just don't work right now.
Oh. So its like the iPhone in wich each different "tab" is sent to the background and can only be viewed if you click the button at the bottom right of the screen?

EDIT: Ah ok I see they have moved it to the top next to the others. Thats cool.

The check box is to note that the user is capable of sarcasm, so that future posts can be judged appropriately.

On Topic: I can't wait to edit it on an iPad!

I think complaining about either of those is completely valid. It's not like it came out of nowhere, there was new info about the fact that a camera should've been in there.

It's one thing to whine when every other post is talking about flash, but if it comes out of the context of something fresh, your defensiveness is unwarranted.

I'd have preferred it to be visible, there is room now. Does it change appearance when you have more than one tab open?

so do you think we can preorder the pad tomorrow ?
Yes!

No...

Of course!

Who knows?

Duh!

Maybe...?

Why wouldn't you be able to?!

Rumors say yes...but really...who knows?

The rumor is "could begin as early as Thursday." But in reality, no one actually knows and that rumor could be wrong (apparently the site that it originated from has been wrong plenty).
