I don't see it. In those markets you already had the 4S this year at that price, so how is the 5C any different?
For one thing the 5C has LTE and will be marketed as something new. They showed a commercial they made for the 5C. They never made commercials for the 4S in 2012. China Mobile (largest carrier in the world) is just going to turn on LTE this year and never had an iPhone before. So there will be a lot of people buying it because it is either "new," the first time it's available on their carrier, or the first time getting an LTE device.

I'm glad that they're still trying to make the hardware faster and add interesting new features, but I can't ever go back to a phone with such a small screen. Bump it up to 4.7" (or better, 5"), then we'll talk.

If I didn't abhor iOS as much as I do and the screen wasn't so small, I would be all over the 5S. The Touch ID stuff is pretty slick, and the new camera features are awesome.

Pretty much this. The screen size is real turn off (had one that size for a couple years and hate it now). iOS in general really is boring and stale for me, even if they may add some whispy touches. Android has still gone far away ahead of it in terms of how an OS runs.

So is there going to be an API to access the fingerprint scanner or is this only for unlocking and iTunes account access? It wasn't very clear if they were going to open it up for apps to use.

Some nice enhancements there with the 5S. I don't see much there for me to upgrade from my 5. I think I will talk my fiancé into upgrading from her 4 now though.

Wow still no NFC?

Only good bit of news for me is iPhones will be available on NTT Docomo now. I can finally leave ShitBank and not worry if I want to go back to an iPhone at some point.

you mean the subsidized markets? I think the fact that it’s new and not seen the “old phone” will mean it might sell better at $99 than a $99 4S. you get the LTE, bigger screen, faster speed, better camera.

for $99, the 5C is probably a better buy than a year old 4S at the same price. or a “year old” anything from a marketing POV. that’s why I think it can do just fin or better than keeping old phones around for $99.

But in places where you gotta cough up $400, $500, $600 up front for an iphone, I don’t think the 5C makes much sense at the price it’s at now. (assuming the carrier subsidy is, in fact, the same as before at ~$400 to 450) we’ll know later today, I guess.

twice as snappy as iphone5?

haven't really had slowdown issues w/ it like I had w/ the 4, wonder how people are going to react to this one.

This iPhone event was....OK. I wish they'd change up the design of the phone a bit more. Maybe shrink the top and bottom bezel. They've looked essentially the same since the 4. iOS7 looks nice, but not really a huge step above iOS6 in anything but aesthetics. The fingerprint sensor. I can already tell this thing is gonna be over-hyped to hell and back.

Not very exciting, everything leaked.

And why on earth would you pick a C over an S?

Bear in mind that $99 is the MSRP. In my experience the carriers offer extra sale subsidies to move these things. The 5 was $219 in Canada, but in actuality cost $169. Also, its priced in the spot where the iPhone 5 would be right now, which often go on sale at prices lower than the MSRP.

Also, 5c will thrust the iPhone into China.

So Apple this year be like, "so usually we keep last years phone and sell it at $100 less".

"Not anymore... if you want to be cheap bastards, you get plastic phones for the same price as the 5 would cost if we kept our former policy".

Hahahahahahaha oh man such trolling!

Seriously that pricing is the most underwhelming thing this year.

Verge: "Costello chats up the crowd. Effectively. It must be the hat — very few men can pull off a hat like that."

Heisenberg? :D

So, as a first time Iphone buyer, do I really need a 32 gig? Would it just be for music mostly? Because I'm fine with streaming my music.

Yep, i just bought a Note 8 and im kinda shocked at all the features in the OS. I'll stick with Iphone and Ipad though, way too invested in apps.
