Are you ever tired of gaming?

There was a stretch a few years ago where I walked away from gaming for a good year and a half.

The game that actually got me out of that rut was MGS3: Snake Eater when it first came out.

Yes.
Whichever gaming website I enter only shows games I have no interest about (FPSes, RTSes) and mostly violence-based games (I like games where violence is part of the environment, and not the raison d'etre of the game).
Nowadays I keep on playing old RPGs and some puzzle games on my portables.

video gaming is a fake hobby.

video games were invented to make it feel like you are doing something when you
are actually doing nothing.

I enjoy video games but not that much right now.

I had an intense love affair, but the spark is gone.

maybe we should see other games?

edit: I sometimes take a couple of days off then the spark is back.

The amount of time I spend playing games has significantly dropped over the last year or so, and I don't see myself ever regaining the interest I once had to be honest. I don't really think it has anything to do with the state of the industry, I just attribute it to a natural part of growing up.

Well considering that I do not really enjoy movies or anything but working out, music, games, and friends (not in that order). I really never get tired of it. If I do get bored I usually go to cod or kill zone and both make me happy.

This only happened to me when I got to college though, I never played games while in high school. Now I rarely have money to do anything so if I'm not with friends I'm studying or gaming either or.

I don't normally have time to play games during the week due to school and work so I mainly just play on weekends. If I were better at time management I'd probably get to play more often but I'm lazy. Sometimes I'll get four days in a row of free time to play games or whatever and other times I can't play anything for 2-3 weeks due to studying.

I am in a bit of a lull with my ps3 - killzone 3 has not been played much and MvC3 has not been bought yet- so I have been playing WoW and am interested in Rift.

Looking forward to the hd sotc. And of course Skyrim, have not been hyped for a game this much in a while.

I don't really get bored or tired of gaming but I do go through times where my interest is a little lost. If a game is amazing and draws me in I can stick with it and love it and not want to stop playing. Other times I don't know what to play and kind of lose interest all most. Another problem is I have so many games I have yet to start I don't know what to play next so I then can't decide which also makes me lose interest a little. Throw in the factors that cut down on gaming time such as work, marriage, life, working out/exercise and that also adds to the periods of loss of interest.

Sure, I've been tired of gaming. There are times when I just don't play games for weeks, maybe a month, at a time. Maybe it was because of the amount I used to play on a daily basis or how long I'd play without breaks. As I'm getting older (only a few years from 30 now) I've found that I can't just sit and play a game for more than like 2-3 hours without wanting to do something else. This depends on the game too, some games I can play forever. But yeah there have definitely been times where I've just been over gaming for a while but I always get back into it.

I always feel like I'm doing it wrong. I usually only play a few hours a week and I hop around from game to game never feeling really....fulfilled is the word I would use. But then I'll just get into the right game at the right time and finish it in two days. I can feel like I'm on the verge of giving it all up at any moment, but then when I've fallen in with something, I write that off as crazy talk. I don't know, I have a really strange cycle these days.

I got somewhat bored towards the end of the last generation/ beginning of this one. Didn't game all that much for almost two years, but then I picked up a 360 and PS3 in early 2007 and have been back into it ever since. This generation has done pretty good job keeping up my interests all this time. So many good games.

Yeah, definitely. My backlog keeps growing, and I'm barely chipping away at it.

It's on my "to do list."

I've been into watching streams of professional players lately.

eh? how is gaming any less of a "fake hobby" than reading for pleasure? not sure where you're going here.

I think gaming has little benefit.

Reading at least stimulates the imagination.

I bet gaming puts your mind in a mostly passive state of mind.

All the time. I played WoW for ~3 years and every 6-8 months I would just take a break for a month of two to let off some steam. Did the same when I was hooked on MW2 too, except I never went back to that. Now I'd consider myself far more casual than I used to be.

I'm taking a bit of a break right now. Just cancelled WoW, I'm bored with the online shooters I had been playing, and I've finished my console backlog.

Now I can focus on my brand new job that I haven't even started yet!

I don't really get tired of it, though sometimes I'll feel like I do. I'll spend a free night playing 10 minutes of each game without being able to get absorbed in any of them. It feels like I'm bored but usually it's actually some other outside issue that's bothering me and keeping me from enjoying myself.

Sometimes happens

I got tired from playing mario galaxy, even if its a great game, I havent got all the 121 stars with luigi ( i did it with mario).

Its about varying a little the games you play, i'm currently re-playing Xenogears because i got tired of demons souls ( the platinum is very time consuming ).

I also have MW2 and black ops in my PC, but havent beat them because i got bored ,
hopefully someday I will

I don't know, I reckon gaming is just like any other hobby in that regard, or at least any other form of media consumption. The same thing happens to me with reading; sometimes I'll just get bored with a book and just stop reading for 6 months or so, once that period is over though it's like a new honeymoon, blazing through a book or 2 a week.

I wouldn't say I get tired of gaming. I usually cycle through my hobbies and switch from one to the other as the mood strikes me (of course this has led me to having many half finished games, but...) Currently I'm not in as much of a gaming mood as I am in a reading mood, but I'm sure that will change soon enough. This probably happens with most people who have a lot of hobbies.

I find I love playing demos of certain games, all hyped up playing the demo over and over. . . but when I buy the game, I am totally bored and sometimes stop playing altogether. What's that about!

Happened somewhat with Dead Space 2, although not much. Happened with Castlevania, Vanquish and some others.

I get tired and go through the motions like anyone else. Sometimes switching up genres helps, sometimes switching up platforms (consoles, PC, portables in a cycle). Went most of 2010 barely playing anything, but loaded up on games during the Steam sale and have been playing a ton so far this year.

It's like a year that I can't play anything besides Pokémon and Halo, when I try to play a game it make me bored almost always... But now seems that I can play at MvsC 3 without get bored, a really great thing to me.

I go through so many funks of gaming. There are plenty of times where I just can't bring myself to play certain kinds or anything like that. Recently, I just got over an RPG kick, so now all I can play are easy pick up and play games like Mario Kart, TF2, or WarioWare.

There was also about a 9 month period for me where I barely played games about a year or so ago. I'm out of that though, and I've got games going through my blood again :p

Although, there's a special place for Pokemon when that comes out on Sunday :)

I'm kinda feeling like that right now. The games on the current gen consoles are so much the god damn same. I was browsing through the gamestop used game section and couldn't find anything that peak my interest :P

I'm not tired of gaming...but I'm definitely tired of not having time for games. At this point in my life I'm married, a father, and an Airman. There are SO many games I would love to be playing but I'm usually content with just reading about them online these days.

I do have a 3DS and Pilotwings Resort pre-ordered though...it seems like I play more portables these days (with the exception of Demon's Souls!!). It's kinda depressing to think about all the games I have not had the chance to play.

On a regular week, there might be a day I'm just too tired that I don't play video games. I have never just gotten tired and stopped gaming. When I was in college, I would whip out my GBA in between classes to get some Fire Emblem on.

Yes...I watch my cousin play more than actually play. I also play more casual and facebook games now. Partly cause I'm putting more energy into finding a job and partly cause not much interests me.

DA2 looks and plays shitty.
3DS looks gimmicky
NGP looks like it has more controls than it knows what to do with
360 has too many shooters and technical problems. Kinect has shitty games
PS3 needs better exclusives along with fewer shitty ports. I'm also not happy with Move thus far.

Only really hyped for a few games, but I'm leaning towards quitting altogether. Don't seem to be getting as much out of gaming nowadays, and I feel life is passing me by.

Yeah. I was burned out on games for a little more than a year and a half and then I somehow found myself watching a fighting game tournament stream. Stuff happened and eventually, for some foolish reason, decided to buy an arcade stick, SSIV, and Blazblue. Now I'm hooked to fighting games(again) and slowly starting to get back to other games as well.

I disagree gaming can stimulate th imagination just like movies can also. Gaming, reading, movies, and music can all stimulate the mind.

yeah, i think i'm in one of those periods right now. i really want to play a fun game right now, but i haven't played one in a pretty long time, so i'm flipping through my library rapidly and spending all of my time doing this instead of productive stuff that i would even get more enjoyment out of.

Yeah, I disagree, too. I woud say watching TV or movies is far more passive than gaming. And depending on the time of game, you can really be stimulating your brain--provided there are lots of puzzles and such. I can't help but think that Zelda dungeons, for example, stimulate the bain and thinking much more than watching a movie.

Would be an interesting study, no?

During the last generation of consoles I was a lot more hardcore into games, but this generation for some reason hasn't hit me like the last one. But now that I got into PC games, I have found a legion of amazing indie games and RPG's that I can't believe I missed.

I'm slowly leaving the consoles behind. Sold my 360 two years ago when it RRD for the second time. Still have my PS3 but only for the big AAA exclusives that take my fancy and the odd PSN title - Contra's up next!

My PC on the other hand gets used everyday for video editing / internet / indie games and the occasional big release. If it wasn't for Blu Ray movies / Final Fantasy / Naughty Dog and Team Ico games I think i'd already have gone PC exclusive quite frankly. Seriously contemplating dropping consoles after this gen.

My hobbies are always the same, but my 'favourite' hobby changes as time goes on. One week I might be super into a book I'm reading, and the next barely read at all because I've gotten really into some music. Sometimes I just don't feel like gaming as much as I feel like doing another hobby, but I always come back to it.

I'll game hardcore for a few months at a time, take a few months off, catch up again, repeat. I get bored and play a lot of video games during school breaks mostly.

I dunno if I'm tired of gaming, but I'm certainly not compelled to play anything lately. I have at least 5 unopened games I could be playing and maybe 10+ that I could be finishing, but I can't be bothered to do any of that right now. My DS and my iPhone get some playtime, but not much. I haven't turned on any of my consoles in something like a month at this point.

I'm kinda transitioning my energy into getting a PS3, so my Wii and other consoles have been neglected since. Once I get one I have a sealed copy of MvC3 waiting for me and I'll definitely be back in the game.

Interestingly, while reading this thread I had the sudden urge to play osu!, a PC rhythm game. That was my longest gaming session in quite a while (at only a bit over an hour).

I think a lot of people on GAF browse more than they actually play games mostly because jumping on the internet and surfing GAF is not only fun, but also much more accessible. It takes a few seconds. Loading up a game takes minutes and actually playing the game requires more mental effort.

I've been through two slumps. The first didn't occur until 2005, so I had been gaming for ages. I had just finished Metroid Prime 2 Echoes and loved it, but I had gone through some big changes in my life and had other priorities. I ended up not playing a single game until about nine months later. Which game did I play? Resident Evil 4. Yeah, that brought back my love for games. And then some.

The second slump was in 2008. I had finished school and was working in my year off, and there were about 40 hour weeks, whilst playing football as well. I was rooted every time I got back home. I only had energy for watching television, the mere thought of going through a game almost scared me. I'd say this slump lasted about six months or so. I wanted to play games but simply did not have the energy or time to.

Replay an old favourite or a classic you missed?

I'm currently doing this right now. I'm not really looking forward to many new games this year so I've been playing old stuff. Currently playing Valkyria chronicles, next up is Metroid Prime Trilogy.

Not usually, but I often tire of genres. For example, I started Uncharted 2 right after 100%ing Drake's Fortune and only made it to chapter 6 before getting bored. Nothing against Uncharted 2 at all, repetition just gets to me regardless of quality. I have nearly platinum'd Uncharted 2 though, great fucking game.

I know the OP sounded negatively, but right now I'm really gaming a lot. I love Nier, GT5, Killzone 3and of course super street fighter 4.
I was in a "tired of gaming state of mind" when FF XIII turned out to be utter crap :(

Waiting for a true final fantasy game feels like waiting for a good sonic game nowadays.

I am actually in somewhat of a slump for a while, but I've been focusing on movies and games based on comic books. I'm playing through Marvel Ultimate Alliance and the recently obtained Super Mario Advance.

I go through slumps a lot, which is influenced by how oppressive my backlog can be at times. Right now I'm playing games a pretty good amount, though.
