• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

Are you going to buy PS4 Pro?

Don't know. If there's a good enough trade in deal then I'd swap my current PS4 for one, just to future proof.

VR is slowly creeping up in my hype levels. I want to see what all the fuss is about and I can afford the PSVR headset - if I was going to get it then I'd want the best experience...

I can't shake the feeling that the games are going to be optimised and perform way better on PS4pro (and Scorpio) than the current consoles I own. I feel like we'll be treated like second class citizens if we don't upgrade - which makes me resent that the new consoles exist and makes me not want to support them.

It's complicated. I'll give in at some point, I just don't know when yet.

I missed most of the discussion today. Do we know if all games will take advantage of the Pro (along the lines of frame rate/load times) or will it require developers to go back and provide patches?

I haven't been following the news that much.

Do you absolutely NEED a 4K TV for the Pro?

Nope you don't need it and you'll still enjoy a combination of better resolution/improved IQ/frame rate/graphics depending on the game on a HDTV, but you'll get a lot more out of it with a 4K HDR TV.
Personally I'd invest first in the TV and then in the Pro.

Nope, have a PS4 fat. A UHD blu ray would've sold it to me, going XBox One S now (especially since I have no XBox One yet). At this point may just wait for Scorpio.

I was totally hyped and ready to buy this sucker a long time ago. Right now... I don't think I'm going to get one. On one hand, it matches the specs that were leaked AND it hits the price point that I felt would make it a must buy.
On the other hand, I really wanted it so I could have a decent 4K bluray player/video game system. Not having the UHD drive kills it for me. It's not going to do what I REALLY wanted it to do, and I'd be shocked to see a major game even being native 4K. The latter I expected based on the specs, but the UHD that I stupidly assumed would be there was really the big selling point for me.
I did pre-order one, but I also ordered a tube of thermal paste to hopefully fix my jet engine PS4. Assuming the paste fixes the problem - like many state it will- I'm just cancelling the NEO preorder. I can wait for Scorpio or for 4K blu ray players to drop a bit. Plus, I can just plug my PC into my TV if I want to play in 4K. Nothing I haven't done before, I just don't like doing that.
And yes, my PS4 is horrendous. I had to move it to my basement TV because the fan gets so loud that I couldn't hear my TV. At least in the basement I can blast the volume without bugging my wife.

Ehh, my old TV works just fine for me. I only wanted to invest in the Neo for better framerate options.

Thanks!

I'm shocked people still buy Blu-rays... Netflix has 4k..amazon has hdr streams. I guess if you like wasting money on blu ray movies, i just dont think it needs it

Yes, because I want to play FFXV in 4K and I actually like the design of the PS4 Pro.

Unless you have access to a pretty beefy PC and an alternate dimension where the PC version of FFXV is coming out, you're not playing it in 4k. "Upscaled to 4k" is not 4k.

Anyway, on the subject of pre-orders, does anyone know how to cancel a pre-order from Gamestop if you checked out as a 'guest?' I got one in at Amazon and I don't need two.

Gonna buy a PS4 when Persona arrives and I might as well go with this one since I do have a 4K TV and the upgrades for games will be substantial enough to where I don't mind spending the extra 100 bucks.

Already preordered on Amazon. Now I need to sell some stuff so I can get a 4K tv. The problem is I'm fearful of buying a new tv yet as the tech keeps shifting and there isn't a true "standard" as of yet.

Sooner or later

More attracted to the hardware of the Xbox one revision - but I guess it doesn't matter if all the exclusives I want to play are on Playstation

Lolololololol.

No, I never was and the idea of Scorpio/PS4 made me sicker to my core than watching barbarians put pineapple on their pizza.

But today's unveiling was an unexpected gift,
I look forward to the dumpster fire that is PS4 Pro.

fingers crossed that Scorpio also fucks up, just so I can bathe in the salt

I have a great 4k tv, but it doesn't support HDR. Am I fucked? Will the Ps4 Pro still let me game in 4k? Should i try to sell it and get one that has HDR?

I'd leave it a year or so before you upgrade the TV, the HDR sets that exist right now don't work very well for games (input lag) and also are very expensive to get a proper HDR experience.

Have it pre ordered. I'll decide if I keep it when we get closer to launch.

I want to see more what the benefits will be for 1080p gaming. I don't have a 4K nor do I want to upgrade it. So we'll see

Thats what i am going to do. If i run out and buy an HDR TV they'll just come up with something else in 8 months that will piss me off.
I hate when the time comes to upgrade all of my shit and i have to start setting aside funds.

No issues with my KS9500 with HDR and game mode together input lag is around 22ms.

Best Buy's trade in value for the 500 GB PS4 has dropped to $120. It was $200 about a month ago, but I still had too many games to play to pull the trigger.

After the press conference I went from extremely hyped for the Pro to disappointed

-doesn't run games in native 4K
-can't get framerate benefits in multiplayer games
-doesn't play 4K blu-rays
-Slightly better graphics in single player games/modes

To me that doesnt justify spending $400.

-couldn't have cared less for 4K
-higher frame rate is a major bummer, I'm with you on this
-Not a deal breaker
-Slightly better graphics is fine, but native 1080p/60fps on games is what I am really looking forward to!

Nope.
Would rather just wait for a PS5. Don't see much appeal in the Pro to be honest. If I didn't already have a PS4 then sure but...

You can bathe in salt already, it's dripping out of your pores.

I missed the event so I've been reading up on the specs and stuff, and its cool just not another $400 cool. So nah.

Maybe I'll get it some time down the road but not anytime in the foreseeable future.

Was going to, assuming it had a UHD BD player. But it doesn't. So no rush now. I'm fine with the 4K upscaling on my TV and saving $400 for now.

^ See my note about being very expensive.

That is literally Samsung's best TV! Hardly a good example of what your average Neogaf user is going to have in their bedroom
