Arkham Knight on PS4 is a technical tour de force - Digital Foundry

After spending at least 5 hours on it I can say that from a technical/graphical standpoint that it's the most impressive console game I have ever played.

How does this game run on an i3 with a 750ti? :p

Seriously though, if the game is actually close to the fidelity of E3 last year I'll be mighty impressed. Still going to hold off buying for the moment, I'm still playing through the Witcher 3.

And yet again, it's not PC gamers bringing up the "PC master race" BS, it's the console warriors. What a surprise.

Guess no one is going to call him on that right?

So as someone who owns a gaming PC and buys multiplats on PC....you did everything short of typing out PC Master Race a few posts above the one I'm quoting. Come the hell on now. Check what you're peddling.

PC isn't a single platform, it's an amalgamation of various configurations that, in a select few varieties, can provide a superior experience.

But the PS4 doesn't need to wait on console ports of high profile AAA third party titles. It doesn't need .ini tweaks and constant driver updates. It doesn't need to juggle logins and game libraries in multiple store fronts. It runs a game immediately upon putting it in. It does not have massive shifts in performance based on the manufacturer of the GPU. It just works. And it continuously gets better and better the more developers target its hardware.

It runs far better than the $400 PC I purchased 2 years ago. The PS4 has continuously seen improvement in performance and visual fidelity while the PC continues to decline with each new game. As a value proposition, consoles have always been very strong for a vast majority of gamers, and while they will never rival the power of expensive PC hardware, the whole package has always been a hell of a good deal.

I agree, but going PC you can talk about your shiny hardware in every console thread like this one. When the PC port is awful, you still get that.

There's being annoyed that a game is a complete mess that for some it is broken. Then there is going way over the top like some people do.

I suppose maybe I just haven't seen responses that I felt went too far then. My personal outrage has mostly been making GIFS and bitching, I haven't seen the usual gamut of initial rage to then memes to threats and personal attacks on employees of WB or NVIDIA or Rocksteady.

I genuinely can't think of a PC exclusive released in the last five years that I would want to play.

PC doesn't have Uncharted 1-4, Bloodborne, The Last Guardian, The Last of Us, or the best looking game made as of now, The Order.
list warz!

This thread has well and truly gone off the rails

I must say I've been playing the PS4 version for a couple hours now and it does play quite nicely. Really like the rain effects and the gliding seems more powerful than previous games.

It is sad to see any platform get an awful port though. Hope all that gets sorted as soon as possible :(

Played the game for like 8 hours straight cause I'm home injured from work and this game is so good. Also making my ps4 scream but I ain't complaining. It's beautiful.

One area that really impressed me technically was just how smooth switching between characters can be. You hit a button and instantly can be controlling another character across the city with zero loading or pop in.

No. The i3 and 750Ti has met or surpassed the PS4 with every new game. Even GTA5 and The Witcher3 which were released in the last few months. This is a shitty port and that's a rarity these days. I really want to play this game and I have a PS4, but I'm still playing Bloodborne and W3 so I will wait and see if the PC version gets fixed. If it doesn't I'll buy a used copy some day maybe. At this point they aren't seeing a dime from me.

Im not going to comment of the rest of your post because it came straight out of 10 years ago. There have been plenty of recent examples of games being broken on the consoles so acting like anyone platform suffers from it more than the other is ridiculous.

Basically this. I'm not sure why they're ever put to a straight comparison. PC is an amazing platform but with obvious caveats, like how old your hardware is. I was still running an Nvidia 7800GT until 3 years ago and a single core CPU. The real shame here (and with many other high profile releases) is how badly the PC releases or ports are treated.

Here comes another outraged challenger. You mustn't have read the mod post just above yours asking to stop about platform wars and get back on topic.

There are a lot more shoddy ports on PC than on consoles, it's hardly debatable at this point. They're so rare the last game released on PC (Mortal Kombat) was... a shoddy port too. Publishers make money on consoles, they have no interest releasing a superior hackable version and an inferior non hackable version. It's business.

A lot of console exclusives look better than anything released on PC (Driveclub, The Order...) so 750Ti hasn't surpassed anything. Closed systems, budget, better APis and optimizations go a long way.

On topic, the PS4 version looks glorious, although I think it's not the best looking game we had recently. I think Witcher 3 looks even better.

Not sure if this is the thread to bring it up in, but isn't it a bit odd that DF only had the PS4 version to test out?

Like WB was keeping the other versions under wraps, and only sent the PS4 version out.

Or am I wrong, and it's nothing unusual?

Yeah I did miss the mod post, because it was after the guy I quoted. What's your excuse?

It's normal that only one version is sent out by publishers. Last generation that was usually the 360 version. Now it's the PS4 version.

That this is used to hide the weaker version is a risk reviewers should be well aware off after Bayonetta and Skyrim, etc.

Edit: Bayonetta 2 -> Bayonetta, my phone must have written that on its own.

Quoting my last post :

"On topic, the PS4 version looks glorious, although I think it's not the best looking game we have. I think Witcher 3 looks even better."

Do you have an opinion ? Because that's the topic of this thread.

"Arkham Knight on PS4 is a technical tour de force"

It doesn't look that impressive to me. There are plenty of PS4 games that look better with similar game design.

Really want to get this game but after reading reviews regarding the bat mobile not sure if I should buy it now or wait til price drop.

Edit: Xbox One version don't have PS4.... Yet :)

Oh so you can go off on a console war rant as long as you add on topic at the end lol.

Anyways, I'm not going to quote myself, but I already said I have no intention of buying either version at the moment. It would be easy to just buy the PS4 version, but I would rather not. I much prefer supporting companies like CDPR that release games that run well on all platforms. Hopefully if there is enough pressure from the fans they will fix it.

What was wrong with Bayonetta 2? It's not even a multiplatform game. Were you referring to the first one?

Then why are you in this thread ? It's about PS4 performance on Batman Arkham Knight.

Why would they fix something being hailed as a "Technical tour de force". Also this thread is about the PS4 version, isn't there separate thread for other issues?

Man every thread ends with this shit recently. I have played a few hours on the PS$ version and have to say it is one of the best looking games I have seen. But for some reason Batman's eyes really freak me out.

Maybe because you are afraid to stare at the justice emanating from the eye of Batman.

On topic, the rain water is wet and batman look like wearing armored rubber. Never try the first suit, i want to see what rain water could do to cotton like material. Also the Bat"Tank" now need constant washing because all the mud, all the mud sticking on the wheel.

This is pretty looking game almost like a batman movie if only the town was a bit bigger.

Yes, but I have a PS4 so I was contemplating getting that version. I saw a comment I wanted to respond to and I did. The mods asked us to drop it so I did. Also it seems the PS4 version has the same frame rate/stuttering problems in the Batmobile sections as PC at the moment, so I will wait until they fix the PC version and get it cheap or maybe buy a used version for PS4, hell maybe I'll get it from Red Box.

I disagree greatly. Nothing comes close to this scale, and how they handle LOD is fantastic too. This game is gorgeous and is absolutely one of the best looking games for the current gen of consoles.

Bought the PS4 version since my PC version (came with a 970) is screwed. Not incredibly impressed with the framerate but it does at least look better at the moment.

PS4 has better framerate but they both tanked during the batmobile section. Pretty nasty during that section.

I was pretty surprised at that sequence in NXG's vid. My experience was closer to DF. There's a few dropped frames when smashing into a car at speed with the physics, but it quickly passed and was not as sustained after a collision as in the NXG vid.

Well I just started the game tonite, and I have to agree. I would put infamous and the order in the same ballpark, but the scale and variety of Arkham Knight is really impressive. If I wanted to show off graphics I'd probably cue up this game.

Batmobile is awesome, probably the best 'gadget' in your arsenal. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

I've spent months regretting preordering the PS4 CE instead of the PC game. The statue is amazing and the PC version is shit, so I feel Incredibly vindicated right now.

Yay!

You find your way into most console threads to declare you're going to have a better time than everyone else present. You're the biggest fanboy on this board, bar none.

On topic I'm glad is performing well but I still need to get around to finishing the others first.
