ARMS Global Testpunch Thread: Let's see if this has LEGS

first time playing (also first day with my new Switch!) and yep, yeah, that's a good video game. don't even feel like I have to keep playing the testpunch since I'm 100% grabbing the full game day one. partly because it's fun, but mostly because Minmin is my one true love

I really wasn't feeling this last week but I have it another shot this week, this time with the Pro Controller and the robot girl and it's pretty awesome. The motion controls just felt too waggly to me but this is great.

Yeah, I don't think ARMS is for me. Playing with the pro controller seemed Okay, but not great. And while I can see where the tactical depth in the game would come in, it doesn't appear to be that deep.

I just don't get why people try it with double dragons. They basically just leave themselves open to be constantly grabbed the entire match..

Edit: Headlok winning by default when time runs out is BS.

Yeah same thing happened to me. One more punch and headlok would've been down but time ran out so we lost.

Last week I wasn't enjoying it so much but this week I've gotten good at the motion controls and the mini game fights are better this time around. Volleyball was a complete buzz kill for me last week but I really enjoy hoops and skillshot.

This win was so, so satisfying. The other player just buried themselves in the corner and spammed grab constantly. Literally didn't move from the same spot all match. Had to keep trying to select with the light and bring in the heavy for the hit before finally getting my own grab in and getting them onto open ground where business was taken care of.

Got my first perfect on Bball as well.

Until this session I think i've been lucky with 2-v-2 partners as never had the problems others have had, whereas this afternoon I found it incredibly frustrating.

So I thought Hoops would be grab central (and it kind of is) but I just realized you really want to get into the habit of using your charge punches - shock arms especially are indispensable.

Man, motion controls are fun, but my Pro Controller is THE way to play this game. At least for me. I love it.

For me motion controls are like being at the live concert while the non-motion are like listening to the bootleg.

Although I don't have a pro controller maybe that would improve it.

Getting stumped on Mechanica. I play Ribbon Girl, and Mechaninca's hammers completely stunt her aerial game. I can't wait for the main game so I can throw in some heavier hammers to counter her.

Had such a great time! Hoop is heaps better than I imagine, and this being my second testpunch, I really felt much more comfortable with the controls and playing the game felt much more satisfying as a result. Really great game, can't wait for thr full product!

Had two disconnects, which is pretty decent with the unstable Internet I have.

That was fun, only Twintelle again and second in my lobby but I still broke through 100. First place was another Twintelle with double Chilla that just waited until I made the first move to attack. At first she destroyed me but eventually the fights got closer and closer. She's still not going to make me change my aggressive playstyle though. If she's going to wait she can do that, but I'll still hit first and win while trying, since I don't particularly like matches where two people are just waiting it out.

Then again in my matches I tried to mimic her but I likely should've stayed with my Thunderbird and Parasol

Yeah, I think it's traditional controls for me with this one.

I get that the motion controls are superior, and maybe one day it'll just 'click' like it did with Splatoon but with movement, blocking, supers, etc., I just feel like I'm dealing with too much when I'm playing with motion controls.

That said, I had a lot of fun (hoops is secretly the best mode) but I still don't know if this is a day one.

Fighting games aren't that deep tbh

I found ARMS to be very fun :)

Man, I really love this game. I had fewer actual fights with other players this time though. Most of my matches were against Hedlok or the target practice mini-game.

I'm so glad there was no 1v1v1 or 1v1v1v1 though.

Mechanica for best girl. The stunner and torpedo are a lethal combo. Saved my ass when it was 2v1. Also got me killed when this dude's grab triggered my torpedo lol.

Today I played with motion controls while sitting down instead of standing like last week and the game felt way better. I definitely "get it" now. I'm totally preordering this game.

Glad they removed 1v1v1
3v1 is way more fun and it feels nice to have a mode where you work together with other people

I mean it's a boss rush 3vs1. What were you expecting. If you don't manage to kill the boss in the allocated timeframe it's hardly a win.

I rather enjoy the boss fight mode. Rather nice to co-op with everyone against the CPU. The final match of this round was against him and he pretty much mullered him into yesterday.

Is hoops supposed to be rare? I've only played it once in the two hours I've played.

Skillshot mode, I just focus on hitting the people on the other side and tend to win every round.
I hate you so much. I just wanna break targets, man.

Mechanica isn't too bad, but I have no idea how to fight in Hoops against her (as Twintelle).
She can turtle forever, and she gets better grabs.

Spent most of that hour getting my arse kicked, still fun mind you but still also having problems judging my attacks.
Had those issues in my first testpunch, second one was much better, as I felt much more in control. If this is your first testpunch, I recommend trying it for another hour.

Played hoops like 5 times this testpunch round. Guess I got lucky.

Min-min's charged left arm is so OP. If your opponent is a bit sloppy with his dodge and guard, you can just keep disabling their arms with the yellow sphere arm and then grab them. The kick dodge is nothing special so far, but the left arm is Min-min's true secret weapon.

Imagine a blorb on that arm.

Definitely had a grand ol' time again - mained with Ribbon Girl and she might be my choice going forward, just seemed to click more. Played with a bit more strategy - more dodges and dashes and blocks - as opposed to just punch away, and that was extremely satisfying.

Hoops is a lot of fun, too. Far prefer that to V-Ball.

Finally got to jump into this and the game is cute. The devs obviously worked hard on this but I can't see myself paying 60 whole dollars for this. Played with twintelle and was whopping ass until I started flaking. I wasn't playing with the motion control which I might do next time but I think I get the jist of the game. It's good fun and it seems like a good buy down the line.

If you manage a super combo with friends against Headlok, you're far more likely to win the match. Managed to do one for 800+ damage.

Basically the same experience except for the Minmin part x)

Why left? Aren't the arms symmetrical in capabilities?

The difference between Hedlok four and five is monumental.

It really is. I played 2 Hedlok Lv4 matches and we won fairly easily. The last match I played in this Testpunch was Hedlok Lv5 and he had 3 of Min-min's laser arms and we got dominated pretty hard.
