Alright, that's a wrap!
Managed to play for a full hour this time, making my total playtime so far 1 hour and 20 minutes or so. Managed to get a few wins in each mode, including against surprise addition Hedlock (who more often than not kicked our team's ass mind you), making my point total 59.
The game is growing on me, I have to say. The characters and overall atmosphere of the game continue to impress and charm me and only now did I get a chance to actually experience some of the game's more tactical layers such as heavier arms going through lighter ones, charging shots, etc.
That said, the motion controls still don't feel fully responsive / natural to me (granted, that might in part be due to my yet to replaced left joycon, though it never acted up as bad here as during Zelda). Movement still requires me to consciously rewire my (analogue stick focused) brain so to speak in order to not forget that the way in which I'm holding my hands is actually always making my fighter move. Dashing and jumping are also things I keep forgetting to use effectively, which is a shame as many of the fighters' unique characteristics seem to be tied to them. Blocking also gave me quite a bit of trouble because of the actual motion required, but I think I'm slowly getting the hang of that.
I think I might buy it though, just like with other competitive games like Splatoon and Street Fighter IV/V, I remain somewhat unsure if online battling is something I will ever prefer above the more relaxed and controlled experience of playing solo (in part because of the stress involved of always needing to do your best and try to win, which I'm not always in the mood for). In this game specifically I remain unsure as to whether the offline solo options will be enticing enough long term. Grand Prix sounds nice but unless I'm mistaken, it doesn't seem to be a full story / arcade mode where the backstory of each character is explained as you battle your way towards the boss, along with in-fight fake commentary by Biff or something.
Overall I'm far more into this game now than I was from mostly just watching it though, which proves the worth of these testpunches.
