ARMS Global Testpunch Thread: Let's see if this has LEGS

How do I fight Min Min with Ram Ram as Twintelle.
They can turtle me out, are faster, and Ram Ram doesn't care about time stop.

lol this game is awesome and infuriating at the same time, right now it seens like the "meta" is about who is more cold blooded and have the patience to not punch first + have the aerial control.

Fun times i can't wait the full game

Didn't get a chance to play last night so this was my first chance to fight against headlock. Loved it. It felt challenging but not overly so.

Ribbon Girl and Min Min are the best

Did they release any stats regarding how many player? who is most used etc?

Game is great fun, people spamming grabs hopefully will realize that's not a way to win.

One thing I want to try when the game releases is a super close range Ninjara. I think he's the best at that distance among all the characters.

Master Mummy seems a bit underpowered. When ever I fought one, they were so sluggish that I could just dance around them with jump+dash and throw them time after time.

dunno, but mummy and helix are for more advance players that are good at guarding and evading

Got my ass handed to myself when playing with motion controls against Minmin who just grabbed me each time I got up, couldn't do anything.
On Pro Controller I probably could have dodged out of the way so definitely going to play with that next time again, been switching around with the controllers and feeling it'll be easier for me with traditional.

either jump, dodge or throw a punch

Last week the most picked character was Ninjara, followed closely by Min Min. Mechanica had the highest win rate though. That's all they released.

You can dash out of the way when your character is getting up, that way you can avoid the consecutive grabs.

Edit: I have used pro controller only, so don't know about motion controls.

You can get up in the direction the joy cons (or L-stick) is tilted. You can go at least front, left or right. Never tried back.

I would imagine that he can go beyond level 6 in the final game. In the Testpunch he seems to range from 4 to 6. At level 4 he only has 4 arms, at level 5 he has 6.

I've seen a level 7 Hedlock in the Testpunch but we lost horribly, his level deoends on how well the team plays or how high their MMR is or something. After that monstrosity it was back to Level 5 Hedlocks.

Did you tilt in the direction you wanted to move on wakeup? Did you then mix that up? Because if you did that and she was still grabbing you she must be scary good at movement reads. Was is faster than one of your punches? Or was her timing just on point? I need them deets!

I've seen a level 7 Hedlock in the Testpunch but we lost horribly, it depends how well the team plays or how high their MMR is or something.

That's just cruel.

From what I'm hearing it's probably going to range from lvl 1-7 since Grand Prix and whatever has 7 difficulties so likely hedlok too. I think I've heard people fight lvl 7 hedloks too? Also lvl 4 Hedloks still have 6 arms.

Was it close up grabs on your wake up? I find those weird to deal with. I haven't gotten enough practice to know how to beat those on your own wake up. I imagine a punch would deal with them fine, but again, I haven't fully tested it. I find them hard to deal with since I instinctively want to get away, but dodging on wake up just gets me grabbed again. I guess I'll have to stand my ground and just punch on wake up.

If I remember right, punch beats throw. Whenever I'm up against a grabber, if they successfully grab me, I always throw out a punch and then spam the dodge button until I get away.

About the connection issues, I had a player timeout on me in my last headlock fight, we still won(also headlock stopped moving for a few seconds), after winning I realized it was already 5 minutes past 3pm when I got the connection error myself, lol...

Comes to show how time flies with this game, it's really a good one.

For whatever reason (the time of day, perhaps) I was drawing much easier opponents than I did in the previous session, which was the toughest and most advanced yet. People didn't seem new, exactly—they didn't spam, they understood the punch/grab/block triangle, they knew well enough to evade and set up rushes—so it may be that I'm just getting more comfortable with the game, reliably blocking on demand with motion controls and learning how to use both arms in tandem to zone my opponents where I want them. When to punch with one arm, when to punch with two; being choosy about which arm to use for its elemental effect and which one to save for countering a potential grab. Knowing what to do with a knocked-down opponent, and when (or what your first move should be when you get up from the floor yourself) is also a critical skill. I didn't score a single Perfect 1v1 the first weekend, but this weekend I managed to pull it off several times.

I didn't draw a single round of Hoops in the previous session, but I drew it twice this time, and it was fantastic: just as Skillshot is all about getting into position and aiming your arms, this is all about learning how to set up and defend against a grab, an essential component of your skill set. This week's party games, Skillshot and especially Hoops, do a lot more to teach you the fundamentals of 1v1 in a PvP setting than the V-ball or the FFA modes from last week.

Incidentally, rushing down your opponent with a special scores you a dunk, which I didn't know about until I tried it. Managed to 11-0 some poor soul in Hoops, right on the buzzer (the loading screen tip insisted that it would count). Grab-spam doesn't get you places in this mode; it's all about the setup.

Skillshot, meanwhile, is all about the side-dash.

Still not fond of 2v2—it was one of my least favourite last week (along with 1v1v1v1) and it's my least favourite again this week. The targeting isn't clear even once you know how to do it, particularly with the automatic switch that happens when your target is knocked down (and it's hard to tell when it happens, as the tethering bunches teammates together). Not fond of the tethering, either: it's a massive hit to your movement and positioning that only provides the benefits of enforcing a clear, visible separation between your teammate and your opponents and preventing flanking.

played this flawlessly on handheld mode... SUPER fun with traditional controls, can't wait for the game to come out and play this with friends. Mechanica is my jam!

I smash dash when standing up I didn't get grabbed after standing up so far and I don't think it's easy to do so with your enemy either as you're still invincible while standing up.

The targeting is the big problem in 2v2. I think the mode is fun otherwise, but sometimes I got my punch a little off because it turns out I was targeting the other player than I thought. Targeting needs to be clearer, perhaps with an actual indicator?

This is, like, the best looking handheld game ever.
It's beautiful in docked mode as well.

The Guardian blocks any incoming ARMS right? Or am I mistaken?

Is there any way to manually detract it or do you have to wait it out or activate phase 2?

My connection droppped out during my last match and I've been having DNS issues ever since. Turning it off and turning it back on isn't working either....

Anything that hits it including grabs. It blocks your own arms as well.

You have to activate it twice to retract it. It will also retract at max distance.

So people saying that traditional controls work perfectly for this game...how are you curving your individual punches? Or can you not? Because I tried pro controller this week and the first thing I noticed was that both my punches just go towards my left stick?

another session done. mixed results. still 80+ points
losses include a pretty good master mummy and ribbon girl. Also twintelle i should of beaten but she got a last moment heal from a spawned item and grab spamming ninjara of course.. guess i should of done better with the last two

Had one match with Headlok KOíng my team mates and I had to face him alone.
Got pretty much rekt. defeated another though

I fought a level 6 Headlok near the end of last night's Testpunch. My team ended up losing by time out.

losing by timeout again him is quite disappointing. happened to me too

The Hedlock was pretty fun. I think the highest level I fought him at was level 5 or 6. Definitely requires decent teamwork.

Hoops was also pretty entertaining. DUNKING is the best lol.

I had a frustrating opening match. Was up against a Japanese Ribbon Girl player (I was also Ribbon Girl). That player got ahead early but I made a come back and as the clock counted down, we were almost even with my opponent having a sliver more health than me...and the little shit starts running away! They won via time out as I didn't realize what they were doing immediately and thus, wasn't able to catch them before the buzzer. Cowardly little shit.

Also had a frustrating Headlock match. I had my super charged and moved to the side then closed to unleash it and one of my so called teammates curved a punch into my back that Headlock capitalized on by knocking me out and we lost.

Oh, silly me somehow I thought I had only seen it with 6 arms, even though I have fought against level 4 a couple of times.

i noticed that hedlok also picks up the body abilities of whoever he's parasiting, a hedlok'd ribbon girl had triple jumps and was using them to full effect

People always argue Nintendo doesn't care about good graphics and that's why they have "underpowered" hardware but I call that BS. They do care or they wouldn't have aimed for 1080p in ARMS.

This is, like, the best looking handheld game ever.

It's a lot like with Mario Galaxy on the Wii that blew people away(despite its resolution), Nintendo truly understands how to eliminate bottle necks or rather work with whatever power they've got. I don't understand how it works, when you see so many top level developers fail at reaching a 1080p@60 target on consoles, yet Nintendo manages to do this with the stunning looking Arms and Mario Kart, even in 2 player Splitscreen.

I'm really curious if they will present Mario Odyssey in 1080p@60 too, but I guess it will be more like 900p@60 in the end.

i got three perfects as mechanica that round too which i am very happy about.

super armour + mobility + three-fire electorshock and hammer = my fave to play so far.

you go mechani-girl

Only hedlok we managed to beat was a lv4 one, they're really hard. I did manage to perfect someone with Twintelle though that was fun. Mechanica was definitely the hardest to fight, Ribbon Girl and Min Min were also hard.

Master Mummy seems a bit underpowered. When ever I fought one, they were so sluggish that I could just dance around them with jump+dash and throw them time after time.

He's not, just counterintuitive compared to the others. The key with him is to turtle, bait people into throws that you punch through and slowly back them into a corner. He's probably the hardest character to get a feel for (although Helix is close)

Anyone else main with Master Mummy?

I just always win with him, and can't manage to win as consistently with any of the other fighters.
