ARMS Global Testpunch Thread: Let's see if this has LEGS

I went into this game thinking this would be a dumb horrible game. But, it's really grown on me and I might be a day one purchaser. There's surprisingly a lot of strategy involved. Is this game going to have a single player? I literally had written this game off and never looked into it. Glad I was able to play this weekend...

There's a grand prix mode for 1-2 players that's 10 fights with varying modes ending in a boss fight. Beyond that, there's offline versus with a ton of modes.

God dammit, I hate 1v1v1 and 1v1v1v1. I'm the lobby leader right now and it seems like that's the only matches I keep getting and it's fucking annoying

Spring Man is my main for now. But I know that it will probably change based on how much strategy I'm going to need.
Oh and NOTHING feels better than owning a grab-spammer.

The first couple rounds I was thinking eh, but the more time that's gone on I'm starting to dig it more. One thing I wish is that they would make it easier to visualize who you are targeting

Feels like most people don't realize using both their arms at once or failing grabs is REALLY bad. Its so easy to just dash and counter when they can't move or dodge

There's 7 difficulty modes to Grandprix so hopefully it ramps up sufficiently in difficult at it's highest levels so that feels like a worthwhil challenge.

another great round of arms

I started off this time trying out min min. then I had to go back to my main black alt ribbon girl. getting a KO with an arm rush is screen shot bait and it works lol.

Just won a Volleyball match with a perfect score. FeelsGoodMan.

Also, Black/Silver Ribbon Girl and Yellow/Black Min Min are BAE.

It's odd; I won quite a bit with Minmin on the first day, but now, lost all my matches when I used her. I'm better with Ribbon Girl, Mechanica, and Ninjara.

Ninjara is such an easy mode. No wonder all the tournament peeps keep taking him. I mean, I can absolutely dominate with him, whereas with others it is a lot more mixed bag.

I love Min Min though, and if I get this game she will be mine. I love the dragons, jumpkickblock and everything. Harder to control than some, you need to think what you are doing.

Ribbon girl and Ninjara are easier to control, I feel. I think that in the first weeks most will gravitate towards those two, then after people learn the mechanics playerbase will diversify.

I like the short matches, those that end in draw are my favourite. Usually they are insanely tense and even. Feels so good.

And I hate when I get absolutely flattened by some uber-ARMSman. So annoying. Luckily those matches end in seconds...

First time playing the test tonight but I'm not really feeling it, as expected from watching the footage. Good bit of fun but gets old pretty quick for me. I'm not a huge fighting game fan in general though.

I went back to Master Mummy for the final test now that I kinda have a feel for the controls and the way the game works. LOVE HIM. The wrecking ball + phoenix worked well for me. Phoenix is great for a quick diversion/jab to setup the wrecking ball (or vice versa). It's also good at catching people that dodge a lot. Plus it hits hard when charged (120).

Also Mummy in 1v1v1 is good stuff. Just turtle and harass till one person goes down, and you likely have a massive life lead over them.

So I'm playing 2p local with my friend and we really want to play 2v2.

We literally just got matched into a game where it was one player each from 4 consoles that had two people playing.

WHY would it not just matchmake us into two separate 2v2 lobbies?!

That is so infuriating. One guy in my lobby is playing as mummy and that's exactly what he does. Whoever is stuck fighting him in the end is going up against a dude with full health

Lmao that was probably me. I played like 3 1v1v1s in a row and that's all I did.

Sorry. :p

yeahhhh, third testpunch and I'm done with this game. There's no significant aiming with the arms that's consistent unless my joycons are broken or I fundamentally misunderstand something (yes I'm using the thumbs up grip). For anyone who disagrees, tell me how you consistently can get your right arm to punch left and curve right. It happens every so often but if you try to do it yourself, good luck.

That's fine enough, it can still be a fun game with random arms because theres strategy with bloicking and grabbing (which is all I wind up doing because arms arent reliable). but there's so many problems with hit boxes and internet code that ruin even that fun. So many times getting hit by a b/s punch that I 'jumped' over, but the hit box knicks my toe and I'm fucked and stuck in a combo even though by all accounts I was dodging and outplaying the other person. Twice I face off against a spring man and beat the shit out of him only for his 1/4th health left thing to go off and suddenly I can tget a punch in because his punches knock mine away and are fast so spamming=winning.

More than one person and there's no indicator of who you're targetting, and you can only grab the person you're targetting, otherwise it goes right htrough them (sometimes it does that no matter what, had one match where I 'grabbed' someone over 10 times and nothing happened ever). So if there's 3 people in a line in front of you, you can't reliably grab the poerson in front if you even if it's their back to you becaus ewho knows who you're targeting.

Without being able to reliably target your arms, someone who's just circling around you is practically impossible to target, even if they're predictable in their movements. arms fly straight out and THEN curve, so good luck following a fast person.

I dunno I feel like I must be playing a different game from yall or my joycons are busted. There's definitely some things that are indesputable like forgiving hitboxes for the puncher which makes it feel cheesy for the punchee. But then the main control of punching people say feels good and to me it just feels like a random attack idk.

I love Mechanica's army alternate. Looks so crisp. Game is beautiful.

I also have more fun now that people know how play. I also enjoy messing with grabs and one arm them.

I tried joy cons day one and then realize my joy cons were in fact busted.

easy enough, did you try the "warm up" mode in the lobby? Punching with a joycon tilted left or right will make the punch initially go left/right. Tilting the joycon after you throw the punch will curve it left or right.

Lmao, my teammate used their super on our opponents, and then I immediately followed up with my own before they fell down. I almost felt bad.

Volleyball is utter ass.

yep. I feel bad but when that comes up I just put down the joycons and grab a drink, it'll be over in 10 seconds and the other person probably feels happy to win and doesnt even realize no one else is playing because the camera is ass and you cant even see what the other person is doing anyway

I love those matches. So much strategy going on. But 2vs2 with that god damn rope tying you? I hate it with a passion!

What strategy are you talking about? Hiding yourself while the other fight?

At least, for one match it was fun. One guy try to hide himself right from the beginning. Me and the other one see him and it was a 2 vs 1. He died quickly.
We then finish our 1 vs 1 which was fun.

yeah the curve is minimal, but sometimes it's a huge curve. idk maybe there's some rhyme or reason to it, doesnt feel like it.
