ARMS Global Testpunch Thread: Let's see if this has LEGS

I finished with 88 points today and the lobby leader again, but my god was it much more frustrating today, haha

Going back to the throw meta... I was in a 1v1v1 and it was literally each player taking turns throwing whoever just got down throwing the 3rd player until 1 person lost, haha

Great, 100 points! My personal record. This game is sooo great.

I feel like people who don't like volleyball aren't playing it correctly.

I wonder if some don't even know how to set up a spike in the game.

If you get two people play who know how it works then the game becomes really good for volleyball. If you get four who know then it becomes great. You really have to play as a team for it.

Yea I'm thinking this is good for a weekend like this but wouldn't really make for a satisfying purchase. I can easily see this getting old quickly.

Finished with like 60 something points, one guy was ahead of me and was a Mummy player. I think we were pretty much tied in our 1v1 match wins, Ribbon felt like a bad matchup against him

It's over. It was so much fun. Can't wait for the weekend. I'm still not sure if I'll but it, I am having fun by myself, so we'll see. Volleyball should get reworked a little, I would give the ability to slow-mo time or something so you can hit it.

Game looks terrific, so crisp and clean. Great job. Everything is responsive, and I can see much depth in the fighting especially as I actually know more about what each fighter does (which the demo didn't specify).

You guys do know that score you guys are proudly announcing is just the in game money you earned to buy arms right....not really an "official" scoring rank

Every time it is the volley ball game, I'm like "Noooooo!!!!" in front of my switch lol. I like the other modes though. There is something strangely addicting, I cannot pinpoint what exactly. Also since I am no competitor and not skilled at this kind of game at all I actually am surprised I won several matches

Finally managed to get into the Testpunch! Wifi at home was spotty, so I had many disconnects and didn't eeally build a score, but man did I enjoy myself! The game is very intuitive on regular controls, and I felt quite comfortable playing almost immediately. After about 45 minutes of playing I started to become a bit more tactically aware as well, which says a lot about how easy to pick up this game is.

Incredibly fun title, will pick it up on June 16th!

yeah the curve is minimal, but sometimes it's a huge curve. idk maybe there's some rhyme or reason to it, doesnt feel like it.
There definitely is and some arms curve drastically different from others. I tested out Mummy a bit earlier and his Phoenix arm doesn't curve much at all (if it even does). It always swings harshly inward, but you CAN control whether it hits low/mid/high, you can even do a "bounce".

His wrecking ball however is very easily curved due to how slow it is. I definitely had a lot of control over it with motion controls.

I dunno, maybe your JoyCons are busted, but I found it overall quite easy to control and manipulate each arm. You also have to keep in mind the angle at which you naturally punch. You probably aren't punching straight to begin with, (I don't).

A lot of this will be remedied with practice mode as you can really get a good guage of how characters and arms handle. Just like any other fighting game.

You do get more currency for winning fights so the higher your earned money is during a testpunch is the more matches you've won, ergo a better performance overall.

I feel like I'm still missing something. I won the majority of my matches but I never feel 100% in control of my Arms (tried motion again but switched back to the Pro). Maybe it's because I typically prefer 2D fighters over 3D fighters. Something about my expectations and how the Arms travel is off.

Game feels pretty shallow to me. What kind of depth are you seeing? Honest question.

The fact that you can't control the Arm motion with the right analog stick is what throws me off. I don't understand why that's not an option on the Pro controller. Moving the Arms with the same analog stick that you use to move your character just feels awkward.

finished the last test with 90 bucks, my best result. pretty good stuff, but not that into fighting games so i don't think i will be buying this, at least at full price.

helix is awful, no wonder no one plays with him/her/it. jesus.

I realize that I suck with every character who isn't Mechanica, she's the one who clicked the most to me, and I won almost every match with her! Also, I played the game on tabletop mode with motion controls while lazily sitting down on my computer chair, seriously, this gaming aspect of the Switch in which you can play it anywhere is fantastic, I was in love.

Had even way more fun during my second session. Still sticking with Ninjara (or Ginjara with the orange hair palette) but experimented with different combos instead of sticking with one like yesterday. Still also prefer using the traditional button controls over motion controls. Had some of the best matches yet now that people are more familiar with the game and I'm more hyped for the game and its potential as a competitive game, local or otherwise. My lobby rival was a Min Min with the dragon laser who was really good at timing her shots and hits with the other fist. Couldn't even get close to her in 1v1s but I eventually got my revenge in a few matches. I had an amazing 1v2 comeback in a 2v2 game where we were just getting dumpstered and had half health within 10 seconds of the match starting. My teammate got KO'd and I had a pixel of health left while I struggled to build my super but eventually got it and used it to KO one person and it looked like I also got the other person but they punched a bomb that landed right next to them causing them to lose the match. It was so tense.

Put me with the 'not sure yet' folks. It's well-made, but I'm not sure whether the mechanics support enough variety for this to have legs. It may all look and play very samey in the long run.

Got to 93 before it ended :/

I wanted that 100 so bad haha

Lol same. I got to 95. Think I only lost 2-3 times and they were all 2v2s. The mind games in 1v1v1 are the best. Had some really close matches that came down to the wire. Before this weekend I was way more excited about Splatoon 2, but I might be more hyped for ARMS now.

Saltiest day yet. 63 points, but I spend most of my time in volleyball and 3 for all...I think all but maybe 2 of my wins were in 2v2 and 1v1. Motion controls feel most unintuitive in volleyball since you follow the ball with your view, but your body doesn't. I'm sure it'll get better when I have some single player time to figure it out, but man non-stop "Why doesn't this work the way I'd expect" matches paired with "why on earth would you save him from that throw in 3 for all" were frustrating today.

I lost all volleyball matches, I think I hate it, unless I didn't get it? Combat is great, I played Arms 30mn overall and it was enough to know I'll buy it.
