Assassin's Creed 2 - Spoiler Thread (Discuss all plot and story here)

Not to try to defend him, but there were a couple times, before I finished the game, when I almost accidentally clicked this thread because I just saw "Assassin's Creed 2" in the title and my first thought was that it was the official thread. It's kind of frightening how quickly I'll click on a thread before I've even finished reading the entire title.

Some thoughts on the story:

Groups (overlap allowed):

Those Who Came Before (TWCB)

- They live among humans as rulers or figures of status, wise leaders who had learnt valuable lessons from the war and had come to terms with a human race who would not be oppressed. This period was the basis for all modern day religions as the stories and teachings passed down intended to provide guidance. Minerva doesn't say ALL TWCB did this, but specifically those who turned their back on war. There could be others.

- They procreate with humans and leave offspring with superhuman abilities such as the ability to resist the POE influence.

- They eventually die out and leave Earth to the humans.

Sub-random-note: This chain of events (procreating with humans) would "explain" a part of the bible I always had trouble with as a kid. The Bible actually has "years" for how long each important person named, each amount is crazy large (300-400 years) and slightly declines for each "generation". If TWCB have increased lifespans, and by breeding with humans pass on a diminished version, it kind of explains it with them living 400, then their children living 350, and so on...

PS. Thank god for this thread. This game was a huge mindfuck for me if only because I had to play it, then stop for 2 weeks, then play a little more, then stop again for 2 weeks. Thanks to everyone for posting in-depth descriptions of stuff. I just beat it, and this thread helped me so much.

Just finished it and oh boy, does it set up for the next installment.

Personally I agree they should keep going forward in time.
Going back means letting a lot of mechanics go.

If I could have a say in it,
I would go for the end of the tokugawa Shogunate and the beginning of the meji era.
Lot's of assassinations going on, guns are present, western world influences invade Japan, etc...
It's a thrilling time and it could make a nice AC.

18th century London also gets a vote...

.

Along similar lines, I think early twentieth century China would be an interesting setting. All the major powers of the time had a foothold in the region, there are plenty of interesting cities, tons of internal power struggles, and it could be situated it during one of the world wars or in between to add some more gravitas.

guys, what do you think about the possibility that I AM ALIVE is somehow a sequel to the assassin creed franchise. I mean the producer is jade and in the teaser trailer we see the world gets destroyed buy geological activities. lucy said something about geological disasters could destroy the world at the end of the game.
it could be a conicidence too, though.

Sorry to bump, but I just wanted to inform anyone who hasn't played yet that Best Buy has this on sale for 30 bucks. I had a gift card laying around and managed to score this for 16.

Yeah, people who haven't played this yet probably wont be found in here.

Apart from HappyDad....

I assume you used Google to find this and thought it was the official thread, I just wanted to act like a jerk

Well, posted this in the official thread with spoiler tags, some time ago (someone was asking about possibilities of who might be Adam in the 'Truth' video)..so I'll post it here again...without tags..

Well..a few things:
1. Adam's face is not fully shown, but on the few occations he looks back to the camera he seems to resemble Desmond, but with longer hair and a beard...but it kinda contradicts that..

2. ..the voice heard at the end calling Eve, sounds like Desmond's. Adam and Eve seem to be running away from someone, seeing how they both are constantly looking back. Now the clip was obtained from Subject 16 plus it was Subject 16 the one that had links to Ezio, but then Desmond was put with Ezio because he also matched with Subject 16 (as shown in the beginning of the game); maybe Subject 16 was a direct descendant from Adam. After all, another thing is that Desmond is not...well..Desmond's name so in some way that hides part of his past. And the baby that Maria seems to be carrying when Desmond had Altair's dream, seems to imply that Desmond is a descendant from that baby, but that baby has an Assassin father and a Templar mother.

3. When Adam and Eve are climbing, there's a part with like a crystal and some people..working on something that sounds like metal. All this, you can see the figure of someone that resembles Minerva, holding the Apple of Eden...but isn't Eve running away with the apple, as she shows in the end of the clip?

4. Since the first game, they've been talking about figures across history that basically created fake versions of the Pieces of Eden or used pieces that had relation to it, but were not part of it (like the Holy Grail), to get power and control from the masses; like Jesus, Napoleon, and others. If actually Eve was running away with the apple, why "Minerva" had one too?, were they also using fake pieces of Eden to control humanity?

But who knows, what twists III will bring.

The History channel has a program called 'Ancient Aliens' and deals with finding evidence, piecing together clues, and looking back at original documents to find out if "space astronauts" really did help the ancient civilizations. I just watched one earlier, titled "Evidence", which was absolutely fascinating and definitely conjured images and themes from this game. They talked about the Nazca lines, Pyramids, and Tesla among other things that you'll find in the game. It was a great watch.

If anyone is interested, they're showing another part of the program at 8pm EST. This one seems to be about the actual visitors. I'd like to see the one I saw earlier from the beginning.

Okay, I was discussing my theory about AC3 in the teaser trailer thread for Brotherhood, so I'm going to move that discussion here.

I think the games seem to clearly point towards Modern-Day Mexico for several reasons.

1.) The bleeding effect points towards Desmond becoming a playable assassin in a future game.

2.) 12/12/2012 is a very significant date in AC1. This corresponds with the end of the Mayan calendar.

3.) Numerous references to the Mayans is present in Subject 16's blood at the end of AC1.

4.) When Minerva tells Desmond to visit the temples of a previous civilization, an image of a ziggurat is clearly shown.

5.) Conspiracy theories about the Mayans aren't new. I know I've seen more than one History Channel "documentary" on them before. For instance, here's a picture of a carving that some have interpreted as somebody in a spaceship.

6.) The gameplay of Assassin's Creed requires a certain flavor of city. Tightly packed, high foot traffic, buildings around 2-5 stories tall, etc. These kind of conditions exist in modern-Day mexico.

Interesting theory but I'd think those cities would be a bit bland for Assassin's Creed. But I do have a theory/idea for AC3:

What if Des and co. explore the tombs in modern day but his bleeding effect links him up with an ancestor in the past that lets him explore the ancient cities for clues for him to use in modern times to find the answers...? I'd like to see that. These modern day tombs would essentially be AC2's assassin tombs. On one hand you have the normal AC city gameplay, and on the other you have the tomb raiding gameplay.

That's one way they could do it. At the very least, Desmond is probably going to explore the Mayan Pyramids. Perhaps Desmond might learn how to control the memories of his ancestors outside the Animus?

Modern day Mexico would be one boring-ass environment to play in. I don't see Desilets making us suffer like that. We go from Venice, Florence and Rome to ciudad de mexico? No dude, no.

Just finished the game this afternoon and wow! Someone tell bioware that THAT is how you progress the story in a sequel. And such a great story too, ubisoft really did their homework on weaving the story into historical events, great stuff on their part.

I think the emphasis on the 'bleeding effect', not to mention the credits sequence, indicates ac3 will have desmond as a playable character in the present day, but i hope its kept 50/50 with a historical setting as well, Victorian London gets my vote. Perhaps New York, be a good way to get edison and tesla in the game!

I am a bit concerned with patrice having left ubi, from the interviews i've seen of him in the past its clear that he has a love of history and has built up the ac franchise around this. With him gone i worry that'll be abandoned in sequels :-(

Seems like a classic case of a project getting too big for its creative figurehead. IMO Assassin's Creed 2 was already full of too many corporate and mass-consumer compromises. The heart of the concept was still there (and it certainly improved on the play mechanics of the first), but it seems like the project just got way too big.

I'm sure the release of Brotherhood (rather than a proper sequel) had a lot to do with Patrice's departure--though I'm obviously just guessing. Who knows what this will do to Patrice's original story arc as he had planned it.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but why can't we replay old memories? I wan't to play memory 14 part2 again because the indiana jones 4 ending had me like WTF.

The whole damn story, which i have zero clue whats going on, is pretty much WTF. Reading this thread just made it even more WTF.

The inability to replay missions sucked for sure. They fixed it in ACB. I still like the crazy ending.

Sorry for bumping such an old thread, but i want to know how far am i in the game right now. I'm in Venice and helping the thieves planning some kind of invasion. Thanks.
