Assassins Creed Valhalla - NEW GAMEPLAY - is this a day one purchase?

Assassins creed is no longer a game about assassinating people

I'd argue it was never about assassinating people. AssCreed as a series was always about visiting these exotic locales during turbulent times in history with an Assassins vs Templar storyline linking them all together. The only true assassins among the series' protagnists are Altair and Ezio. Everyone else for me isn't really an assassin and is more of a avatar for the player to mess around in a game's chosen historical era.

If you want a game about being an assassin, then that's Hitman.

i don't know...i think spidey morales and ratchet alone are better games than every launch on sony console since maybe ps1-ps2?
I don't see how. Spidey is based off a current gen game and doesn't look tat much better (have we actually even seen the gameplay yet?), and R&C while looking fantastic, again looks very close to the already amazing looking current gen R&C.

environment and foliage looks awesome (wish there was more movement), gameplay looks same

will still play it till i get bored, havent finished a single AC game since AC1 😆

on ps2 we had tekken tag, x-squad, eternal ring, armoured core 2, kessen, ea trash sports, doa2
on ps3 we had lair, resistance, fight night 3, genji and some other shit
on ps4 we had infamous 3, knack, kz sf, bf4, resogun
on ps5 we have spidey morales, ratchet, kena, maybe DS remastered, every crossgen version of the various batman, re8 and other third party AAA and AA game.

It doesn't look that bad imo.
ratchet is not launch title though, i saw even march is seen as "launch window"... if its not 2020 its not launch title

The first one was absolutely a stealth/assassination game. Thats why people disliked it, it was reminiscent of a third person theif. You have to gather intel and then stalk your prey for the absolute best moment to take them down without guards being around, if they were around then you had to run. It was only starting with thr second game did it slowly but surely become more actiony and involving your sword more and killing more people to get to your target than finding an alternate way.

The good thing about a new Assasins Creed game being released is that Ubisoft will give an old one for free on Uplay. They gave Unity a while ago and Syndicate on EGS so I guess that Origins will be the next one once this one is released.

Why does this look so atrociously bad? Is it because of recent games with such beautiful animation (TLOU2, GoT) that seeing the old AC animations just aren't acceptable anymore? Or is this particularly shitty? I can't tell and I refuse to go look at other AC games to compare. But yeah, this looks absolutely fucking awful.

If the release price for this game is 20 dollars, then It will be day one for me. Up to Ubisoft pricing this correctly.

I was never a fan of the AC series, but I still watched gameplay and paid attention to each release. While the subject matter of this one is awesome, the game itself pales when compared to previous iterations. That's a shame considering it would've been awesome for the nord/viking themed sequel to have been the best one yet.

Has any Assassin's Creed been a day one purchase?

I have no idea why Ubisoft thinks demoing AC:V with that genderless freak is a good idea. This character design itself is poor, its implementation in the game is atrocious. Who wants to play as the female Eivor? I certainly don't and I loved Kassandra in AC:O.
This is the most baseless, but-my-best-friend-is-black critique I've ever read. Who gives a shit what she looks like? I know multiple people excited for this game simply because of the gender mechanic.

I'm definitely getting it. Love the formula and the setting.

Same. I played as Kassandra and enjoyed the character, but there's no way in hell I choose female Eivor. It's just not an appealing character design. Should've licensed Lagertha.

Looks very similar to Origins and Odyssey. Pretty much a copy and paste with minor adjustments.

That's what everyone should expect from this series until they announce some radical departure (like they did when Origins came out).

I happen to be a woman, Jason, and I like the trend that there developers realize that not all videogame characters have to be supermodels. I have no problem with the gender mechanic, I platinumed Oddysey playing as Kassandra. I'm criticizing the design of this character. The character design wasn't good in the first place, but the implemention is unbelievably awful. At least Eivor looks like a female Viking in the official art ...

... but in the game Eivor looks like a guy. No ifs and buts here, because not a single person would ever believe that the character in the picture below is supposed be a woman. The Eivor above and below look like two different characters.

This game looks so awful :O , I will wait for it to drop at 10$ and I played games like Elex and I did enjoy it , but this looks so bad....

150+ hours in Origins and Odyssey was enough for me.

I won't pretend I'm not tempted by the setting though. I may end up buying it anyway.

Odyssey was ok-ish at best. This seems similar and despite being on PS5 and SeX it looks worse than ancient AC: Unity.
Heck...characters from Mass Effect from 2007 look better than here.
Its Halo Infinity level of let down.

Same for me minus Odyssey. I did everything in Origins and just not ready for another AC ride.

This looks legitimately terrible.
Also I'm done with these ridiculous strong women protagonists, say what you will about me, but I will never be able to take them seriously. Especially in a semi-historical context like this.

Personally?

I brought the PS3 and one of the first games I got was AC... it was a good concept with flawed gameplay that could end being awesome.

After that played AC2 and Revelations... got platinum in both... played the Beta or Demo the other AC I don't remember.

But to be fair it was a boring experience in both... so I stopped to care about AC.
I still remember the potential AC had... wasted.

Odyssey and Valhalla are both games that shouldn't even exist.

Origins, on the other hand, had a great setting, it was a breath of fresh air for the franchise and it had a lot of passion, too.

After that, it turned into GaaS shit

If this has no 60fps mode on PS5 I'm not even touching it and I say that as a hardcore fan.
They have strayed far enough from what AC really is, if they decide to add insane tech incompetence to that I'm out.
Ubisoft needs to step up. And soon.

There's no reason why AC Valhalla (and Watch Dogs 3) can't have a 1080/60fps mode on both next generation consoles. I expect them to announce it before launch or for it to be added post launch.

It would be understandable if the next fully next gen only AC goes back to 30fps but cross gen games should all have 60fps options.

i was not really talking about graphics, more about quality, both ratchet and spidey are gonna be 80-85\100 games most probably, and we didn't had many 8,5 titles at launch in the last generations (also all the big third party games like re8 that is probably gonna be another hit).

Yeah, watching the combat video on Boomstick gaming and it looks fun! Of course it won't be as smooth as Ghost of Tshushima, it has to animate several different weapons and even main hand shield combos. Ghost has a katana and that is it, granted it has multiple stances and I love the game but it still only has one weapon. It's like comparing Dark Souls animations to Sekiro. I personally can't wait to bury a hatchet in a guys face and then stomp on the back of his head. Male Eivor for sure, the female looks terrible.

This looks awful, but I already didn't like Origins or Odyssey. Watch Dogs Legion on the other hand is looking great gameplay wise.

Ghost also had a smaller budget and a smaller team.

And double the dev time. Also, I'm sure their budget was fine with Sony's help. I doubt it will be as good at all, Ghost may be my GOTG, but it will still be fun and going by that video better than the last two for me at least.

Ghost is a new IP, and Sony is a business. I highly doubt they gave Sucker Punch a blank check. Given the limited scope of the open world in Ghost in comparison to Assassins Creed Origins/Odyssey.

With that said, AC:V is still worth the purchase as I've put over 100+ hours in both Origins and Odyssey.

I played a shit ton of Odyssey and actually really enjoyed it. A lot of the magic started to fall apart at the seams due to how frequent the "different" locations all became too similar. This really does just look like a reskinned version of that game and with CP2077 coming later this year this is nowhere near on my radar for purchases.

So stamina is new, right? I don't remember having any in Origins and Odyssey...I like that. Yeah, because you could just spam dodge in those and combo non-stop. Made it seem spammy. That will be a nice change.

I don't care if it's a reskin. My Last AC was Unity. I played 2 hours of Origins when it was free to play a few weeks ago to see if I like the gameplay. I do. I absolutely understand when it's the 3rd game with this gameplay, it might be boring. But for me, loving the setting, it will likely be day one.

Btw the video seems to be highly compressed und stutters like shit.

Yeah, I don't think it does the game justice, the one I posted above in post 187 looks much better.

No....the only Ubisoft game I would buy is Mario + Rabbits 2, I have zero interest in their other games.
