• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

Assassins's Creed PS4 is now 1080p with AA.

Ugh. Now I've got a game at home I don't want to play because I feel like I won't get the best experience until I wait a bit.

I'm not seeing the problem. They stated they were targeting 900p, which they achieved. After everything was said and done, they realized they can both raise the resolution and implement a new(different) kind of AA solution.

This is bad now?

Thanks UBI for keep working on it but my OCD will not let me play this unless I know its the most optimal version.. :(

edit: Already sitting on shelve.

My nagging suspicious is that these developers worked to insure Xbox One version of the game was up to snuff, ported to PS4, and than added in bells and whistles.

But they have exclusive deal with Sony, making Xbox One as lead platform wouldn't make sense.

They never stated they're targeting 900p, We knew AC4 is 1080p for months. Why didn't they go for 1080p from the start?

If the game runs at 720p, that would be very funny to see the Xbox One and 360 versions running side by side. We shouldn't be able to see the differences, and I wouldn't be surprised to see some people prefering the Xbox 360 version.

You're going places.

Please tell me that was sarcasm.

If it was advertised and sold at 900p upscaled like BF4, then no, this is great. Instead, it was advertised as 1080p, so everyone is purchasing a version lesser than what was advertised. They never once said 'we are targeting 900p, and you may get 1080p in a future patch'.

I'm not a fan of Day 1 patches, but given the usual rush to launch, it's understandable why almost all the Launch titles are getting patches.

Kudo's for Ubisoft for at least communicating the changes, as opposed to Infinity Ward, where NeoGAF had to shame them into admitting the CoD SP campaign was 720p and was going to get patched to 1080p.

The bad news is all of the next gen reviews done by gaming sites are worthless. None of them reviewed patched code, and 99% won't bother to update their reviews after the games are patched.

Why are people so mad about the games getting patches?...I understand the idea that a company should meet deadlines...but isn't it a good thing that a company continues to work to improve the product? I mean they could have just shipped at 900p (like DICE)... And said "well, good enough..." But no...instead they kept working...got to 1080p and added AA...and presumably kept the frame rate...

Would you rather the game be delayed?

doesn't all this resolution patching taint reviews that mention the differences between XB1 and PS4 versions?

yes, it demonstrates that reviewers have no idea what resolution they're looking at unless they're told.

which we already knew from last gen when they couldn't tell 560p from 720p etc

I have a crazy theory - maybe they did 900 p for parity on xbox one and ps4, then observed the resolution-gate reactions so decided to flick the switch in a patch ?

I know I am being silly but it will be interesting to see xbox one resolution, if its 900p then we will have a good clue...

What's so hard about giving us a better release window for the patch? It sounds like its done. So just say in a week, two weeks, whenever. This "shortly after release" language tells us nothing.

Ubi must realize that some of us either won't buy or won't open the game and play until we know when the patch is going to hit. Either way, ambiguity on the patch release date doesn't help them here...

I never contested the technical differences, I'm talking about noticeable differences in a comparison video of the same game.
For some people it's easy to notice some effects, and for others no. Especially in a compressed video.

When I see the comparison video between the PS4 version and the 360 version, the first thing I notice is the difference of resolution and some texture quality differences, I don't see other big differences. So if the Xbox One and the 360 version run at the same resolution, I don't expect to see big differences on this kind of video.

Why is it that all of the least impressive games visually (aside from BF4) are the ones having the hardest time hitting 1080p on either platform?

I take "Shortly" as anywhere from tomorrow to early December.

PR has a fucked up definition of shortly, I don't think any longer than a day or two is acceptable.

I'm still over here waiting for my Rayman Legends Vita patch to add those missing levels.

Really? What on earth was that low? I think probably Alan Wake might have been that low but it was noticeable but not horrible because of the games play on light and dark.

Anyways, I don't see how adding a patch later on to up resolution and add other effects is a big deal. The issue is that the console "can" handle it, they just needed more time for optimization.

Or is this thread about pointing out what reviewers can see?

This is my main concern, the framerate. If it was running well at 900p I'm worried this patch to 1080p will affect the framerate. :/

Patches go through QA checks as well. I doubt they are going to release something that will break the performance like that.

As far as I know there has been no word at all on the Xbox One version. So who knows that they will do with it. Could be doing the same for all we know.

Good on Ubi catering to the audience.

To be honest they would of left it a 900p and dealt with it but I bet after reading Neogaf and the build up to next-gen consoles and all these arguments about 720/900/1080p a few of the engineers tried to push that little bit more on the PS4 probably knowing they could get some decent results.

Also had some better support from Sony maybe considering Ubisoft have some exclusive DLC deals with them? I'm not sure :D

But good on that small group of coders who managed to achieve the 1080p and AA upgrade ^.^

This patching to increase resolution is getting ridiculous.

Patching is for fixing bugs, not as an option to finish your game after it has been released for $60.

yep, this is downright sad.

i want to play infamous but if this is how next-gen is going to be then fuck it. its bad enough we get bug ridden games rushed to meet a release date, now they don't even fucking get the resolution in the game

Whats next, a patch that enables you to press start on the splash screen

Jesus christ. Someone needs to lead these half-bake developers out back and put them out of their misery. I mean publisher.
