I don't find any of the other modes fun, quite frankly. Mono is the only mode where I feel like I'm riding the music.

Everything else is like I'm playing a puzzle game and I just so happen to be listening to music at the same time.

Exactly.

it feels like i'm ridin the music. red & yellow are the blocks you pick up in mono, the rest are more like the greys.

Heh, I must reclaim my throne, but I don't know if I'll have the time tonight.

.

Apparently I did have time.

Check again, can Tekno top 311K?
:lol :lol

The gauntlet has been thrown!

Someone took out my Reckoner score so I'll have to get that back.. and maybe give Paranoid Android a more serious go. Not happy about Street Spirit getting taken by ManCannon either (at least from what I remember he got the top score on that)

You don't ride the music in mono, you run from it until it occasionally tells you it's okay to bump into it.

That's actually the case, as far as I can tell. I was playing through a song over and over on ninja mono and eraser earlier (for reasons that will be clear later), and it turned out that the colored blocks on ninja mono were frequently (if not always) the red and yellow blocks on eraser.

Ok, clarification time.

Hitokage essentially asked me to run that Delusional Extremities track he posted about earlier.

So I did.

What he probably wasn't expecting was that I'd spend some time running it on ninja mono first just to prove to myself that I could do it (since if I'm going to keep harassing mono players, I figure I should at least be able to match them).

Then I went and did my thing as is normal.

There might be a moral to this, but I couldn't say what.

Finally got it! 321 pts :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

Did you get your score with Pusher? I tried doing it with him once. I got like 30K pts :lol

Yea, I know that won't last very long.

FUCKING HELL.

I hate my mouse. It keeps spazing out.

That's fine in CS or TF2. I don't care if once every 5 minutes I lose a quarter of a second because my mouse sends my view flying upwards and spinning until I readjust it. 99% of the time it never does anything...

But GOD DAMN it ruins Audiosurf.

I think I'm buying a new mouse tomorrow morning. Any suggestions?

I was genuinely curious as to how a polychromatic player would handle such a song.

That's OK, I'm still the first one to do such a thing, and my example will increase the level of competition at GAF! :D

(...I'm already resigned to the fact that there's somebody in east asia who can stealth a 500 traffic song that goes on for 10 minutes. I take my victories when I can.)
Then I went and did my thing as is normal.

Interesting, but you should have also made a vid of your mono run. ;)

Now match my 140k ninja mono score. Did it with a keyboard too.

A little tricky, but by no means unplayable; I await further challenges; what; and there are plenty of those on Youtube already :(.

What did you do, grab every single block?

No, I used Pointman + IronMode. I suck at using Pusher. :lol

Haha, that makes both of us.

I find using the keyboard very hard... It feels like there is a delay or something.

No, but the vast majority. It's possible to get match 21 too but that requires skipping some blocks and such puzzle gamey aspects should be kept out of ninja mojo. 148k now.

There are some alternative programs (Xfire just rolled out a beta video capture tool, for example), but I'm not aware of any that work quite as well.

A brief respite for Tekno?

Indeed.

This is going to take some work. Not up to the challenge now, but I'll give it a go soon enough.

Today is "not even I know why I bothered recording most of Sonic Rush" day.

Right There, Ride On
Ska Cha Cha
Ethno Circus
Back 2 Back
Jeh Jeh Rocket
Get Edgy
What U Need
Metal Scratchin'
Vela-Nova
Bomber Barbara
Wrapped In Black

Fun songs though, they're all relatively high traffic and have a good beat.

"Would anyone know why the track is only colored when playing Mono? When I play Eraser, Pointman, and Pusher, it's just grey :\"

You can set the color in the options menu. White, black, and grey. You can also edit the block colors individually, and there are a handful of effects you can apply like Paint or Negative.

Sonic Rush definitely favors Eraser.

"But it only does that for me when I play Mono. When I play the others, it's just grey."

That's weird, shows the colors of the track just fine for me.

Either you're playing on elite with default colors, or you have it set to grey. If you want the rainbow on elite, set it to black or white and then reload the track.

edit: To clarify:

Casual = white = white BG, rainbow track
Pro = black = black BG, rainbow track
Elite = grey = black BG, grey track

Setting the game to a specific color changes the background immediately, but the track won't change until the next song is loaded.

I just tried some ambient stuff from Aarktica and it was pretty full on. Would've thought it would be slow with the ambience but it was surprisingly fast with lots of congestion due to the constant humming and drone of music.

Yeah, Ulrich Schnauss's "Monday - Paracetamol" is a lot faster than I thought it would be.

"I can't use anything other than Pointman effectively. Any tips for the other characters ?"

With pusher, focus on the upcoming blocks that are most (and second most) frequent, pick up all of those, pushing them into columns that are convenient, use the second most frequent (or whatever you can get away with) to extend the "life" of the cluster so you can consistently get big clusters for the huge point bonus.

225k on ninja mono/iron mode Travel Demon. Stealth is... doable but probably a bit too frustrating to attempt. I did get to 30+k once and that's probably the hardest part of the stage.

edit: wow, soon after that I got to ~70k stealthed and 245k total.
edit2: ~120k stealthed

Do you get additional points for Ironmode?
How do you get rid of the grey blocks? Just keep comboing on top of it?
Theoretically. Ironmode increases the traffic count slightly. In practice, I don't know that there's any significant difference in most cases.

As for grey blocks, it depends on which version of mono you're playing and whether or not ironmode is on. If you can shuriken them, they never degrade. If not, they degrade over time regardless of what you do. Ideally you play a puzzle mode and never have to worry about silly things like worthless blocks that don't chain.

Black Sheep's "The Choice is Yours" put a giant smile on my face. Audiosurf is everything good about gaming.

Now recommend me some songs to compete against you fools. I currently hold the top spot for Eric Cartman's rendition of "Come Sail Away." BRING IT.

Been setting a few Global elite top scores with Eraser, although I got two emails this morning saying I'd been dethroned. One of them was by a friend who spends far too much time playing Audiosurf. He linked me a scoreboard where he held the top score with Double Vision Elite Iron Mode the other night. Have to try and find which song it was.

Great fun, going to have to defend my titles when I get home this evening. I even have my girlfriend playing, gifted it to her on Steam and she spent the better part of yesterday afternoon playing.

Holy hell I just tried playing a few Machinae Supremacy songs.

Shit is insane. Ughhh I'm so dizzy. I really hate the sharp turns. But only because I can't see the blocks I already have. Guess I should stop playing on Ironmode. ):
