Thanks. Having this stated as a 'per game' thing is kind of scary to me.

I hope it doesn't turn into a trend on both platforms... It doesn't sound like Sony is going to (and honestly they don't have the power to) refuse third parties from requiring a persistent connection. I'm thinking SimCity and Diablo III, where there's some 'necessary' mechanic that you just have to be online for - but it's totally not DRM.
Considering one of the examples you gave has persistent online for PC (Diablo) and has been confirmed to be completely offline with no RMAH for PS3/PS4 I think Sony have got a lot of say over what publishers can and can't do. I'm sure Blizzard would have wanted it to be always online, so it stands to reason Sony told them no.
