I'm open to the idea of moving away from phases.

For a long time I've felt like the only real takeaway from the films is what they did to advance the overarching storyline, which is usually just brief namedrops and mid-credits teasers. The rest feels like filler TV episodes of villain-of-the-week plotlines.

I LOVE the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but I hope it is something different. Avengers 4 should be The End.

At that point the MCU will have about 30 films or something and I will have enjoyed pretty much every single one.

All good things must end and the last thing I want to see is the MCU stretched out and padded out forever even when all the good stars have left and the quality has nosedived.

End on a really big high, and leave it there. Maybe even have a break for 10 years or so before we get a fresh universe.

I can't imagine coming back to watch a new Iron Man, Cap America, etc with different actors unless there's a good break between them. Like the distance between the various Batman reboots.

They aren't going to end the MCU after Avengers 4, but I could see them putting Thor, Iron Man and Captain America to the side to focus on new characters.

Disney is not doing that. They'll continue on with New Avengers:

Dr Strange
Captain Marvel
Black Panther
Ant-Man
The Wasp

along with characters like The Winter Soldier, Valkyrie and new cosmic faces from GotG

So the question is, who dies?

I'd say the Phase 1 heroes are of course vastly more likely to bite the bullet vs the newer team members

So Iron Man, Hulk, War Machine, Black Widow, Thor, Hawkeye, Captain America

I'd say Black Widow will stick around, Hawkeye is dead.

Out of Thor, Cap, Iron Man, one will stick around in a significant capacity, Thor? Taika Watiti gets to make a few more crazy cosmic movies. One will remain in cameos and ensembles, and one will die. Can't tell who though, Cap or Iron Man? I think they've set them both up to die, but Chris Evans seemed fine with renewing his contract. RDJ might just be done, he's done so many movies now.

Hulk and War Machine are total wildcards, and of course Vision will die.

He might get a Jesus / Superman resseruction in Avengers 4 though

Zoe Saldana called it "Gauntlet" in an interview: https://t.co/LFg3u7FmDk

She said they're filming the first part and then they're doing Gauntlet. Could be a placeholder name for the cast to use though.

Oh wow. That makes it seem somewhat definitive, at least in plot terms. Also there as speculation that the Guardians would only appear in one of the two films but that doesn't seem to the case now.

They've said previously that Infinity Gauntlet was one of the titles they considered before landing on Infinity War. If the second part is Gauntlet now, that might mean Infinity War is actually more like Thanos Quest.

Maybe it's not called Avengers _______, and whatever is substituting "Avengers" in the title is the spoiler.

Revengers here we go

Avengers Disassembled isn't necessarily a bad guess but they just disassembled the team already in Civil War. I know it's years away, but still.

I think some of you are overthinking things, and that the fourth film will be titled Avengers: the Infinity Guantlet.

I still think that the first film will end with Thanos wiping out half of the universe with a snap of his fingers after assembling the infinity stones. The second film will be the entire MCU vs Thanos as god

Ding, ding, ding!
Yeah, Infinity War will end on a cliffhanger for sure. It's kinda weird to go from "War" to "Gauntlet" (the reverse would make more sense) but I could see it.

My fan theory based on nothing:
Infinity War -> Infinity Gauntlet -> New Avengers
-> Avengers vs Cap-Wolf

Which would be the best they can do.
Thanos Quest shows Thanos capturing the stones and wrecking havoc while the Avengers try to stop him at various locations.. they can't win against him but maybe take some out of his guard.

In the next movie he is wearing the gauntlet

Rebooting would actually be the smartest thing to do if Marvel wants to continue their "lets's be cheap" business model. I'm all for it though if it means we can stop having to have every single fucking movie tie together.I want more one-off's like Logan to bleed into other properties. Give us a self-contained Batman film directed by David Fincher, or a single Miles Morales as Spider-man story.

Probably already said, but I feel like a lot of actors who have been on board from the beginning will use this opportunity to duck out of the MCU while they can and the fans not get pissed at them. Probably RDJ, maybe Chris Evans? I know Chris Hemsworth hates bulking up for any Marvel movie.

The Marvel bubble has to pop eventually.

Hopefully Hemsworth & Chris Evans keeps going on but I can't see RDJ sticking around for more than a few cameos after avengers 4, he's getting up there. Could still squeeze out a couple more films though.
