Background Music finally works on Xbox One!

The only time I will use this feature is if Spotify makes the service available to XBOX. Sadly don't see that happening which is BS.

PS4 has USB, DLNA, Spotify

then i look at XB1 and how 360 used to have it from day one and just shake my head.

My single biggest frustration with the One is the huge step backwards it made with things like this, especially when they were saying its a 'do it all' device. What a huge fuck up. Things have got better though and I'm confident there will be further improvements. But man, they should have built upon the 360, not tear it back and start again.

Before you think ps4 has this all solved:

That is a list of the games that support Spotify. It's not every game. Its missing some that I really wish were there.

I am wondering if xbox will also have this working for 'some' games and not others.

It's not an "opt-in" feature for game devs. It's a system level feature for apps. Also, I believe Sony does support every game with Spotify, it's just that games can support custom music tracks using Spotify.

Well ... they are with Groove music.

It´s not their fault you are subscribing to Spotify and not Groove ;-)

And for the absence of an Spotify app you can blame Sony.
Who do I blame for the absence of a UWP Google Play Music app? :(

Get your shit together, Google.

Yet, it's been a bit shit all around this gen. PS4's background music doesn't work with DOAX3 for example (it simply stops when you switch back to the game), making that entire game utterly useless, lol.

But the Horizon games always have such great soundtracks already.

Yea, but now we can bring back the classics.

If only MS could work out a deal with Spotify. I've evolved past the state of MP3s, and don't even purchase music to rip to MP3s to use this feature anymore...

They started again this time precisely so they don't have to in the future.

They could have built upon 360, but that would mean another gen where every single feature has to be implemented from scratch in all their platforms (even for basic things like WiFi support, preload and preorder on the store and so on), so they built a new platform that can support all their devices.

That has the obvious drawback that they had to go back in some features that just now are coming back, but they also have now a single platform for developers to learn and develop, and now that the hard part is done we will see many more features coming.

So does Groove actually play in the background or not? Getting so many conflicting answers and I can't get it to work on my console.

edit: For everyone as dumb as me, there are actually 2 separate Groove apps on the store. One has background music, the other doesn't.

The Groove app has been updated. Guess what? Background music is working! I am streaming Babymetal from my OneDrive while playing Warriors Orochi 3 as I type.

Background music has broken for me. When I load up a game it immediately stops working. Does anyone else have this issue?
