Badass military leaders from the 20th century

I'm glad Hilter was an idiot because shit could have been different if he actually listened to his generals.

Guderian is even more overrated than Rommel. Three campaigns against inferior opponents and he never rose beyond panzercorps/panzergruppe commander. After having his ass handed to him at Moscow, he never held another combat command. His stint as the chief of staff later was meaningless as Hitler called all the shots. Don't get me started on his reputation as a "Blitzkrieg" creator.

Hitler actually didn't do terrible job at least at the beginning. It is easy to criticize with hindsight but he was certainly right about France 40 and probably right about going for Kiev and not Moscow in August 41. His generals were full of armchair shit and as often wrong as they were right.

Also worth mentioning that many of those generals who eluded the noose wrote later on a bunch of hagiographic bullshit about themselves where all the bad decisions were invariably taken by Hitler.

I'd say the only German general who could credibly put up a constant performance was Walter Model.
