Kinda hoping they'd dropped the genre categories this year. Oh well, the only serious mistakes I see are no GTA for Handheld award and the prescence of FIFA 10 in the Best Game category. Not that it matters, seeing as Uncharted is gonna SWEEP

ODST got robbed in best soundtrack.

also, no Street Fighter IV in best gameplay is a travesty.

other than that I hope Uncharted 2 beats Assassins Creed 2 to a pulp in every category.

Won't win, but finally some damned recognition for it. Especially nice as it's a downloadable title.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Cool to see Uncharted 2 nominated for almost everything!

I stopped as soon as I saw there was more than one category. Pointless tripe.

Would people prefer the "Best Game that is Uncharted 2" award and throw away the rest? :lol

Well, colour me surprised. It probably won't win, but I think it's good that a 14 year old game got a nomination.

I'm Surprised that after the other categories that NSMBW was nominated for, that it would be left out of the game of 2009 category.

gofreak

GAF's Bob Woodward
Haha @ Sony getting more nominations in handheld category than Nintendo.

Poor PSP :(

Sony's dev teams seem to do really well with awards the last couple of years. 22 nods here

C&C3: Uprising? That's a Red Alert expansion, nice of them to get the name of the games correct.

Uncharted 2 is in practically every category. :lol :lol

I bet it'll win shit all as well(That's not a trolling comment, I just think it'll be snubbed).

Very much nominees for Batman, Uncharted 2, Modern Warfare 2 and Assassins Creed 2, but I hope the first two get the most awards. And was the soundtrack in Batman that good? Remembered when I played the game, I thought there was an absence of a great soundtrack. With Use of Audio they are referring to the voice actors? Because those were indeed great.

Too bad Brutal Legend got only one nominee in a category it probably doesn't win, I prefer the artistic style anytime over that of Assassins Creed 2.

And why does Halo:ODST is with best multiplayer games? There is only coop and firefight, and they aren't both that fun, unless they also take the Halo 3 multiplayer into account.

Well, hope they don't screw up the winners.

BAFTA's are the British Oscars and for me this is probably the most important and prestious games awards out there.

How they are judged:

The next British Academy Video Games Awards will take place on Friday 19 March 2010.

ELIGIBILITY

Entries are invited for the GAME British Academy Video Games Awards in 2010 from both developers and publishers.
Any game is eligible so long as it has been, or will be released in the UK between 1 January 2009 and 31 December 2009. This means both completed/published games and currently uncompleted games are eligible to be entered.
No game that has previously been entered can be re-entered into the Video Games Awards (this includes Late Releases only entered into two categories the previous year). However, games which have been entered for the Children’s Awards in 2009 can also be entered for these Awards.
All games released in 2009, including Late Releases (see below), will be eligible only for these Awards (Friday 19 March 2010). Even if they are not entered this year, they will not be eligible for the Awards in 2011.
When entering a game, there is no need to be platform-specific unless a game has been produced by separate developers/publishers for different platforms. In this case, each developer or publisher may enter their own version.

JUDGING PROCESS

FIRST STAGE

All entries received by 16 November will be grouped into categories and voted on by selected industry professionals and Games-voting BAFTA members. The top six games which have received the most votes in each category will then qualify for the next stage, which is to go to a carefully selected jury, specialising in that category.
If you would like to become a first stage voter and have made a significant contribution to the Video Games industry, please complete the online voting application form . If you are selected, you will be notified by BAFTA and be given a username and password. If you have any questions please email the Games Awards Officer Kelly Smith at kellys@bafta.org .

SECOND STAGE

Any games which have not been released by 6 December will still have a chance to enter, but due to their proximity to the first stage of voting and consequent inaccessibility, they will have to be judged by the jury only.
These games must be available for each jury member to play for c.30 days between mid-December 2009 and mid-January 2010.
THE JURY

Each jury will comprise between seven and nine industry practitioners across a range of developers and publishers and will be chaired by a member of the BAFTA Video Games committee.
It is our aim for each jury to be balanced in age and experience, and with a track record of achievement in the field. No juror will be permitted to sit on the jury if he/she has had any direct association with a short-listed game. Chairs are also mindful of the diversity of the jury, and jurors will not be exclusively from one discipline.
After discussion, the jury will then select the nominations and winner by secret ballot.

Hope they do a proper live stream this year.

Yeah I guess they may need to clear things up a little and maybe explain their thinking/process.

It was the same last year, if not worse and I don't agree with some of the categories either.

Still think they are the best out that have broader appeal but there isn't much competition and atleast they take the awards seriously in the ceremony as a art(hated the VGAs).

no Killzone 2 for multiplayer? ok..

and no Demon's Souls for "use of online"..........? ohh yea, it wasnt released in Europe. great.

Shigeru Miyamoto To Receive BAFTA Fellowship
To3CR.jpg

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts said this week it will present a BAFTA Fellowship to game design luminary Shigeru Miyamoto, the Nintendo mainstay who created games including Super Mario Bros. and Zelda.

The BAFTA Fellowship is not video game-specific; film and television icons are also considered, reflecting Miyamoto's impact on the overall entertainment industry. But even though Miyamoto is the Nintendo creator most often in the limelight, he says he will accept the award on behalf of the people who supported him over the years.

"I am very grateful to be able to receive such an honorable award from the British Academy," Miyamoto said in a statement. "Our video games cannot be created by one person; since Donkey Kong until the most recent New Super Mario Bros. Wii, I have been working closely with a number of friends for three decades in order to develop fun and enjoyable games. I would like to receive this honorable award on behalf of all of these dependable colleagues."

The BAFTA awards are set to take place on Friday, March 19 at the London Hilton on Park Lane. For the second time, comedian and gamer Dara O'Briain will host the BAFTA Video Game Awards, sponsored by UK-based retailer GAME.

In a statement, film producer, actor and BAFTA chair David Parfitt said, "The Fellowship is the highest accolade the Academy can bestow on an individual for their creative work and we are honored to have Miyamoto with us to accept his award."

"With previous honorees including Hitchcock, Kubrick and Pinter, it is only fitting that Miyamoto be recognized alongside these other pioneers for his groundbreaking work,"
Parfitt added. "He helped to develop an entire creative industry and is still a major force in its continuing success."

Last year, gaming pioneer Nolan Bushnell became a BAFTA Fellow for his contributions to the game industry. SimCity and The Sims creator Will Wright received a BAFTA Fellowship in 2007.
