Bagged milk hits UK, continues world domination

Fuc/< Yeah! Now it's milk's turn to get propably contaminated with some unhealthy dose of male/female hormones that leave from the plastic material. There was a serious story recently about hormone contaminated plastic bottles used for common drinks (mineral water, juice, whatever). Little children and especially babies can get affected by the exposure of such hormones and who knows what it may lead to when a baby drinks bagged milk regularly in its early years: Frankenstein? A 3-titted ugly face ;) .........Cher!?!

....seriously! Be aware!

Much like any product that is bagged or has sensitive wrapping, don't be an idiot and droppinig it or poking holes in it, you'll be fine,.

I drank milk in bags all my young life and I only have 2 titties, thank you very much.

I've got a bag of milk in my pants.

Damn it I can't find the actual clip :(
This'll have to do.

Bags of milk? How ghastly.

Now, here's the way the world should turn:

milk-bottles-404_677585c.jpg

Mr or Mrs Milkperson drops off the full glass bottle in the morning. You useth the Milk. A few days later, whenever you are ready, you leave the empty bottle outside your house. Mr or Mrs Milkperson collects it to be cleaned and refilled, replacing it with a full bottle, and the cycle of life continues.
This is the only civilized way. Although you also had to leave a tile out for the milkie to put over the bottle or the birds would peck at it and get all the cream.

Never understood the hate for bagged milk. It's just that. Milk in a bag. Same milk you love, same taste. Different container. End of story.

But, i guess "This is Neogaf dude!". People here hate shit for the stupidest reasons.

I hate this stuff. Only because I don't have my shit together enough to use this without spilling it. And am I meant to wash my jug between bag changes? So many questions...

Still, less packaging is enough to stop me feeling sorry for myself.

You're not supposed to pour the milk in the jug! You put the bag in it, and open the tip of the bag...

is this supposed to be some kind of redeemer?

Yes. Maybe not to you, but it is recognised as his most popular song when he actually rokced instead of doing power-ballad after power ballad.

Whoa... mind blown. But then... how...

Do you need a special type of jug??

Just look at the pictures... You put it in a jug made for bagged milk sold in grocery stores for a small price. You then go buy a bag with 3 bags of milk inside for 5-6$ and there you go, you got enough milk to last you for days.

The one posted in the pics with the handle.

..................uhhh

how about then cutting the bag out of the equation and ...... just sell the milk in the jug???

you know, like how they do it in developed countries like the USA

I'm taking my dog, heading out and trying this shit out. My confidence has been shaken. :|

Bearing in mind I only came across bagged milk recently having moved overseas.

Oh please, shut the fuck up with your "developed countries like the USA". Canada is as much developed as you, crazy american. Just because we have more options for milk doesn't mean a thing, those jugs in your picture are also sold in here. The bags are just less expensive, and one bag with 3 bagged milks inside is enough to last a whole week for a small family. And if you still want to buy milk in carton or normal jug like you posted, it's also available.

Ahh, c'mon man! It seems so counter-intuitive. You buy something which isn't "fit for purpose" so you make it fit for purpose in the most practical way. And I hadn't seen the pics in here... rubbish.

I'm weirded out how little I know about milk bags. Fuck 'em.

I think at this point they are just trolling/messing with us... they "get it" they just want to make us look stupid explaining it and getting over-emotionally defensive about it.

And this is a superior system to buying an easy-to-open and easy-to-seal carton of milk......how?

Or just do it Polish-style and not put the bag in any kind of jug:P Just cut the corner and put it in the side refrigerator door shelf-thingy. Without the jug.

Plus, the overreaction to this is stupid.

How exactly is putting a bag in a jug a harder option?

Although I don't really like the idea of bagged milk either, sounds so impractical in just about every way, the point is to reduce the material costs and save the environment unlike those piece of shit jugs in that pic. That's some massive amount of plastic (or some other material) compared to a single milk bag.

Anyway, this is the best way to go:

worst idea ever. You can't even put it in the fridge without having to transfer it to another container.

This is ridiculous. Why not pour the milk in the jug?
pouring directly out of the bag is a recipe for disaster. so you'd need another pouring jug to pour in the jug. seems pretty sill no?

Wait what? Why the hell would you need to do that.

You put it in the fridge just like it is shown in the pictures.

You buy milk bags in packs. You only put the one milk bag at a time in the holder, cut it open when you intend to pour it... the other milk bags are put away in the fridge elsewhere like a surplus. When yer done with one bag, recycle it or throw away, and put the other milk bag in it the holder, and enjoy.

Really guys, it's not that difficult a concept.

I don't have to break out the scissors and cut a hole every time I buy a carton of milk. It's not a matter of either being hard, it's basically just asking how many steps do you want to have to do before you have milk in your glass?

Anyways, this shit sounds ridiculous. I'll boycott dairy altogether if they start selling that shit here.

Don't be so sure. Anything that saves money for the producer/distributor/retailer companies will find its way to America

The retailer said that milk in a bag costs at least six pence less because it uses 75% less packaging and is cheaper to produce compared to an equivalent two pint plastic bottle. A two-pint milk bag costs 80p while a two-pint milk carton costs 86p.

Milk in plastic bottles will continue to be stocked but the retailer claims that switching to the new bags could save up to 1,400,000 kg of packaging every year.

Sainsbury's spokeswoman, Emma Metcalf King, said: “It's all about giving our customers choice.

“They can reduce the amount of packaging they use, and also save a bit of money, by buying milk in bags or continue to buy milk in conventional plastic bottles.

So this is why they were selling those jug things in Sainsbury's when I went in there!!!

Thing is, they were selling the special milk jugs for bagged milk with 'get your easy to use jug for bagged milk' written all over them, but not selling bagged milk, and I had no idea what bagged milk even was until I saw this thread.

What happens when I'm carrying this home with all my other shopping and it bursts? And how are you supposed to store this in your fridge? I guess you have to lie it flat or it will just flop about and fall over. What am I going to put in the door of my fridge now?! TELL ME THAT CANADA. This sounds like a nightmare.

It also seems like it would actually use more plastic than the cartons they currently come in, which are made of pretty thin plastic. Plus the jug thing is made of plastic.

I for one won't stand for this.

Most jugs come with this
snipper.jpg
that you can put on the jug near the handle, there is a small hole made for them and they're not getting in the way. It takes literally 1 sec to cut the damn bag without needing to look for scissors, it's not harder or longer to do than taking the carton and opening and closing it everytime you want milk.
