Batman: Return to Arkham delayed / no new release date

I agree. I probably prefer Knight's combat now because it adds so much, but at the time, Origins was a real sink or swim moment on hard setting. The stricter timing for the counters alone and the faster pace of the fights in general was refreshing after Asylum and City.

It also had the shock gloves though, which let you indiscriminately wreck anything. And that line launcher replacement gave you 2 (or was it 3?) easy KOs in any predator type scenario. With that said, i liked the game well enough overall, i even got to max rank in the multiplayer, which at it's best could be a lot of fun (mostly when playing as the heroes), even though it was very basic.

Given WB's past port salvage efforts (Arkham Knight PC, MKX PC, etc. etc.), I can't imagine this will come out looking much (if any) better than those early comparisons, and WB just going "¯\_(ツ)_/¯" afterward.

A lot of the changed textures are by far for the worse (Joker's considerably cleaner looking suit, Catwoman's outfit stripped of details and replaced more or less with a single texture), the boasted new lighting is either flat or completely changes the atmosphere of the games. I just can't see them going back and fixing all these things.

Man, what a bummer. I'd love for these things to just be 1080/60 PC ports, but it sounds like they figured this dumb undertaking was the best way to go.

And hell yeah, throw Origins in there. It's blasphemy, but that's the best Batman voice in the series, anyway.

This begs the question of who is remastering these games? Is it Rocksteady? That would explain why Origins isn't in this collection. This would also make the switch to UE4 make sense as well because this is a better way to get your feet wet with UE4 than to just make a new game with UE4. Either way, why would they ever put screen shots out when these remasters obviously needed some major work done? It's almost like someone lost a bet or something.

The company that is doing the remaster is virtuous games

Some people hate the tweaks to the combat, but as a vet of the first 2 the added challenge was very welcome in Origins. You had to relearn some of the timings and perform better in the base game, whereas the other two you could sort of sleep walk through them and only got tested in the challenge levels mostly.

I would agree with you if it wasn't for the game repeatedly taking cheap shots in combat. I had to put the game down after the umpteenth time Batman went into slow-mo for a finisher, when, all of a sudden a thug would move at near-double the speed of everyone else to punch me in the head and mess up my combo. =/

Edit: to clarify, the thug would cover a good amount of ground and get an attack off in the time it took Batman to finish throwing his punch.

Don't understand why they went to the lengths of porting the games to UE4 when they could have done direct 1080p/60fps PC ports for far cheaper.

Well shit, I guess they are taking all that negative feedback to heart, but for the love of god don't turn this into a holiday title, to much stuff comes out around then. This was the perfect time to release it, now I might not be able to get this day one.

Also missing volumetric lighting effects that the 360/PS3 also had.

I can add that in less in a second in UE4. This is the type of shit why people shouldn't buy "remastered" games. Their buying the same game at full price.

Agreed. I hope it doesn't come out at a really busy time now.

This is one of my more anticipated releases, because I love Asylum and like City a lot. I traded Arkham in when I had the chance to get a great deal and regret it.

Would be hilarious if they delay it until TBD 2017. Oh well, canceling my order. No reason to keep it on order with no clue of when its coming out now.

Huh... for some reason I thought this was already out...

So all those comparisons that were going around were from pre-release media?

Pretty wild because the remaster was set to release VERY soon.
The game looked horrible once revealed on this very forum. I wonder if that played a role in getting it pushed back? Good on the gamers...

Porting the game to a Unreal Engine 4 probably had a lot to do with it.
It probably would of been way easier to port the UE3 PC version with all settings maxed out to consoles.

This is all they should have done... and perhaps they will do just that now.

While a lot of people are still (rightfully so I might add) salty from the PC port of Arkham Knight, WB does deserve *some* praise for deciding to delay this and (hopefully) get it right.

The Arkham series is the crown jewel of the WB publisher library and they need to make sure this is done well.

They're unfortunately backed up with other titles.

I do think QLOC would be great for this. They're very good at remaster work as well.

Just looked them up and they seem to know what their doing, The DmC releases got a lot of love.

This WB mess shows that good port houses need to be known by gamers. So stuff like this and the Silent Hill collection will stop(or be called out early enough to change direction).

I think it would have been better to just port over the PC version and have it running 1080/60.

Some comparisons from the previous thread.

Would like to see origins in there as well...but then they would have to fix the bugs in origins as well...not holding my breath.

At a guess, I'd say that the first two games' cutscenes aren't usable for a remaster since they were FMV, and that they don't exist in a higher resolution than 720p, so they're trying to recreate them in real time in 1080p, only they're not doing a great job of it.

That scene was never even pre-rendered though.

Totally agree.
I thought I wanted Unreal 4 engine. Now - if it really involves this much hassle and failure - I don't.

Please go the Resident Evil 4/5/6 Remaster route: release Asylum at 1080p/60fps for $20, then release City a few months later, then (finally) release Origins.

That scene was never even pre-rendered though.

A lot of the scenes they've compared are, but some aren't. The Strange close-up is real time across all versions for example, but it still looks awful in this port. I'm guessing they want to do the entire thing in real time for some reason, and assets (of which I'd guess aren't being created with access to the originals) are being shared across the board. It's absolutely baffling.

Wasn't this rumoured ages before it was announced as well? By the time it comes out it will have taken longer to develop than the actual games

What's the over under on this actually coming out?

I mean, couldn't you see a year from now this totally being forgotten and turning into "What ever happened to Batman remastered?"

At this point I don't understand why publishers bother using anyone but Bluepoint for their remaster collections.

Origins is the best game in the series so please use this time to remove your heads from your asses and include it.

That is all.

I don't get why this needs a remaster rerelease the PC versions that's all that needs to be done.

<facepalm>

How is it that this day and age that it doesn't occur to people that these remasters ARENT for people who are PC gamers?

It's mind boggling that this question continues to be brought up every time a remaster thread comes up.

The one thing that always annoyed me about origins was that they basically made the directed aerial worthless. In City, Directed Aerial provided the same protection that an aerial on a riot shield guy did. In Origins, directed aerial left your ass flapping in the breeze while someone wound up a haymaker. Apart from that, the increased aggression was cool.

I didn't like the electric gloves, though.

At least post the latest build's images bruh:

My thoughts exactly.
