Battlefield 1 Beta Impressions

I agree about the map, it's not the best. Wish we had the alpha map to be honest.

Thankfully though, it plays nothing like Battlefront, the battles play out completely differently and the weapons feel great and take a little bit of skill to use. So my biggest fear (that this would play like Battlefront) hasn't come true. Looking forward to the release now and better maps.

Are you sure though? I immediately put that into 100%... Game ran like crap at medium, but I did not find it weird with a GTX 780. I just put it at 42% and yeah... 100fps.

Image looks blurrier than at 100%, of course, but is absolutely does not feel like it's a 42% of 1080p so... I'm just confused. It definitely looks great at 42%.
100% is like 4k or more, lol.

I keep seeing posts about the framerate being janky on Ps4, but how is it on XB1? I assume it's worse?

Framerate isnt bad, its just a little inconsistent. Just needs some more optimization. I saw someone say it feels like 20fps. That guy has never played anything at 20fps apparently. Im on PS4 btw.

I also agree that the new medic system sucks. Just give me a healing symbol over downed guys that can still be revived. Their new approach just makes my job harder and les skilled players basically never revive. So far I have been revived once!

Current system only does one thing, make bad medics even worse.

It couldn't possibly get worse, it is running @720p.

But my god the frame rate is undeniably a game breaker, it literally drops from 60 to 20fps on regular occasions. When this happens the input lag goes through the damn roof.

Battlefront felt like the old Battlefield games too, but people don't remember what they felt like.

lol nice.
It's true though...I don't think people really remember how BF1942, BF2 and BF2142 played like. I heard this "the new BF game plays like old ones" when BF3 came out as well...because it had jets and commander mode.

Going to need some thoughts on:

-Rush (especially map design)
-New Conquest mode (Timer version)
-TTK (compared to BF4)
-Aim assist on console (compared to BF4)
-Class uniqueness-- do they all feel distinct? Are there overlaps like in BF4? I hated that.
-Does Conquest play well? I hated it in BF4, and I dont know if it was because of the map design or what. Are maps big? Are flags spaced out?

Rush is OK. Too many vehicles too early on in I think.

New Conquest isn't great. I don't sense the impact of capturing flags as much.

TTK doesn't feel too different, but I haven't played BF4 in awhile.

It has that BF4 'almost lock-on' sticky aim.

The classes are fairly distinct. It seems like revives have to be requested, so the medic is nerfed. Each class has a certain range of weapon, but it the options of weapons reduces the impact of that.

The maps are big. The flags are spaced out. Too many of the flags are out of the way. Rush, in the same map, covers a fair bit of ground.

Bf3 never had commander. And I remember how BF2 feels because I still play it (yes, you don't need GameSpy)

Im going to chalk some of this up to the map.

CAN WE PLEASE GET DICE TO REMOVE THE STUPID STICKY AIM ASSIST??

It kills my enjoyment knowing that we can aim just fine without it.

Battlefront does not feel anything like Battlefield 2. Not even close, no idea what you are talking about.

lol nice.

True, Battlefield 3 and on felt completely different to the earlier games, still nothing like Battlefront though.

People dont remember, but having less "gadgets" in this makes it feel like 1942. Thats what it is. The basic character "controls" might have felt the same in Battlefront, but gameplay was nowhere close to this.

First match: Got a triple kill right off the bat and then proceeded to have the aim of a 7 year old and die 10 times.

Captured objectives though and won so no biggie!

The bottleneck seems to the the CPU, and the Xbox One's is slightly faster and it's also running at a lower resolution. From the accounts on here, it seems to run a bit better than PS4 though the IQ isn't as good.
I'm not an expert on this and haven't seen the Xbox One version, so take that with a grain of salt.

The map is the usual DICE conquest mess. Two flags that you can't realistically contest, with one of them being in the middle of nowhere requiring a vehicle. All the fun happens in the town, where it's just a BF4 style clusterfuck. You'll be shot in the back a lot.

New scoring system is cool, although I don't pay attention to it much. If you hold C on the map in the beta, you're pretty likely to win the map. You can realistically have fun between C and D. Everything else is a hike and a half. You'll just get sniped.

The classes don't feel unique at all. The LMGs are really bad and not fun to use, and I've unlocked the 2nd tier with the bipod, which is slightly better. The 'assault' is really just the go-to if you are doing work in the town, doubly true when you get the shotgun. Also has your anti tank so if you don't want to get repeatedly clown pounded by people hiding a good distance off a flag in a tank, you have to play assault.

Medics feel useless. I am a hardcore reviver and I just couldn't really find anyone to revive. I don't even think it shows a downed player icon unless they ask for a revive (what the hell DICE?). I got revived maybe once or twice a round, usually by a squadmate. Their rifles are also in an awkward spot.

The TTK is stupid because you'll just get gunned down by the MP18 up close and then taken out across the map by campers with bolt actions. There's a ton of open ground and not nearly enough light vehicles to go around. It feels like there's zero mid range to this game. It could be the map, but I am really not feeling the gunplay this time around.

The game is devastatingly pretty. They got pretty much everything technical right, as usual, but there's a ton of balance issues and some really questionable design choices.

Honestly that's why I didn't like it that much. I like the direction Battlefield was going and I kind of wish Battlefront would have aped more from it. It would have been way better if it was a Star Wars Battlefield 4.

Battlefront?? lol

I think its because when you choose a plane, you just spawn in it. Other than that, i dont get it

Yeah and Battlefield had that. I believe it was to stop runway camping. I like taking off so I think a better idea would just be to have the protector turret actually act consistently instead of weird.

Holy shit, I wonder if it's even possible to pick worse map for your beta / demo showing of the game. Map has next to no natural flow and feels very forced clusterfuck where no one cares about E flag because it's 2km from rest of caps. Also why they didn't do any balance tuning between alpha and this? Balance is same clusterfuck of sniperino SMG's and light tanks with rest stuff left in awkward spot. Also AT as still extremely weak shit, shame.

So we now have unlocks locked behind profile level, kit specific level and warbonds? Triple whammy.

Well at least getting 60FPS locked with 1080p @ 120% scale and rest maxed out.

I've played all of them but i don't know what you mean. What direction was Battlefield going compared to the previous games?

I havent enjoyed a battlefield game since bad company 2 and im not really sure why.. maybe its the map but im not having fun. need a hardcore mode badly too.

E flag has got to be in the worst spot ever conceived

I still don't understand the mechanics of the spawn turrets. They never act in a consistent way. Sometimes they'll target with pin point accuracy, sometimes they'll completely ignore, sometimes they just spaz the fuck out.

Yeah the map is textbook awful conquest. Just bafflingly bad capture point positioning. Dice map design is so inconsistent.

It really should just be removed, I don't understand the point of it. It didn't even spawn so much as a light vehicle when I capped it at round start. DICE's map design has gotten progressively worse since BC2 and this game doesn't buck that trend at all. I don't know why they thought this was a good map to show off. It's pretty as hell, and the different weather settings are really fun to look at, but it plays like ass.

From the pics that are being posted, the environments look like a reskinned Battlefront. Battlefront is a nice looking game, though. It's one I would rather play than Battlefield as well. But I will still check the open beta out and will probably check the game itself out down the road.

A desert's gonna look like a desert.

1942 and Vietnam.

I mean, yeah possibly. It's been years since I played those. If anything it was the weapons having no recoil that just made the combat in Battlefront immediately dull for me. Not the actual movement/handling.

It's a shame the medic and sniper are the only classes with rifles in this game, they should have been the main weapons. Never thought I'd say it, but medic will be my main in this game, the ttk just needs cutting in half though because it's just not satisfying hitting someone 4-5 times to kill them.

I wouldn't be surprised if that's for technical reasons. The game has a really hard time in areas of the map that are dense with buildings, at least on PS4.

The BF4 CQ felt like such a clusterfuck of bad design on some maps. Im really annoyed to hear bf1 have similar placement design.

Im hoping assault gets a serious nerf from the sounds of it. It's a bit crazy that they are also anti tank. It sounds like they are more like engineers from bc2. But BC2 engineers werent the greatest, just pretty good up close. Sounds like they are a tad too good here

I guess this means Medic is more like Assault from bf4 then?

Im sure Dice will get the balancing right. Hopefully. Let's just hope maps are well designed and much better than bf4

Anyone here dislike bf4? That game really soured my hype, because I loved bf3 and bc2 and am hoping bf1 is not like bf4.

Yea the map they showed at e3 would have been better to show off for a public beta.
